BAD RELIGION
+ Dave Hause & The Mermaid
First Avenue

The smartest punk band I know,
Bad Religion is touring in support of their new album
Age of Unreason (Epitaph Records). I’ve loved this Los Angeles band ever since I heard (and still own)
Generator in 1992.
Age of Unreason is the band’s 17th studio album, and offers their response to our current time (they might as well have called the album
Age of Trump). Co-songwriter and guitarist Brett Gurewitz (and Epitaph Records owner) explains, “We’ve always written songs of protest from a humanist perspective but the need for it today seems graver than ever. In the US, and around the world, our most precious values of liberty, truth, and even reason itself, seem to be under attack. This album is our best shot at an angry but clear-headed response to a f**ked situation.”
Co-songwriter and lead singer, Greg Graffin (and holder of a PhD in the history of science), adds, “When I saw all these headlines about how terrible our world had become, I started doing a lot of reading. I read about the French revolution, the American Revolution, the Civil War, and I started to recognize that this is a pattern of history and something we should never venture into, there are ample warnings against it. Every school child should know this but it’s hard to get people to read about these things. Maybe this album can help. Because right now, with social media, we are just playing a version of kill the guy with the ball.”
Man, you gotta love these guys.
Dave Hause (billed as
Dave Hause & The Mermaid) will open the show.

We’ve been kind of fascinated with these guys,
Harry and the Potters, ever since we wrote about them as the leading pioneer of “Wizard Rock” (yes, that is a thing) in
2007.
The brothers (Paul and Joe DeGeorge) just released their new album
Lumos, which is supposed to chronicle the events of the seventh and final

Canada’s
Foxwarren is headlining the 7th Street Entry this July 5th.
Show up early to check out New York singer-songwriter
Hannah Cohen. Although the name “Cohen”, you would think she’s related to the late, great Leonard Cohen, but I do not believe they are related. However, her father is the Jazz drummer
Myron Cohen.
Cohen’s new album
