STARS’ newest release, THE BEDROOM DEMOS, is out NOW via Arts & Crafts.
These are the original 12 album tracks, first realized in Montreal at Breakglass studios with Jace Lasek in 2006. In the classic manner of demos, they possess a particular beauty that would shift and evolve when thousands of miles away, months in the future, the album was recorded again in Vancouver and then released as their 2007 album IN OUR BEDROOM AFTER THE WAR.
The recording of THE BEDROOM DEMOS was not a lengthy affair; songs were tracked quickly and given working titles like Flack and Fuck U I Love You. The tapes were stored in a hallway at Breakglass for years to come.
Fast forward to the spring of 2011 and on a break from touring their newest record, THE FIVE GHOSTS, the band reached back and fondly recalled the Breakglass sessions: Barricade recorded with one microphone, an epic solo on My Favourite Book, Torq singing both his and Amy’s parts on Personal. STARS thought it fitting to now release these songs and share them with their fans.
Fans can download the previously unreleased bonus track “The Worst Thing (Whitey Jam)” from Pitchfork NOW: http://pitchfork.com/news/42720-stars-release-demos-collection/
This June also marks a return to live shows for STARS. They are confirmed to headline Yonge-Dundas Square with Land Of Talk and Diamond Rings on Friday June 17 as a part of NXNE.
