The Show Is The Rainbow: Tickled Pink

ABOUT TICKLED PINK
When striving for “honesty” in music, most of these pathetic mopey fucks waste all of our times by bitching about ex-lovers and boring shit like that. I am a funny, fun guy, and I also seriously love technology and I’m happy that my music reflects that. This is an album about GROWTH, about how no matter where you are in your life, physically or spiritually, there is always room for improvement. You can always learn. You always know less then you’ll know. This album is about not getting down on your former self, and being proud of who you are today. I smoke weed. - Darren Keen

PRESS
Lincoln, Nebraska musician Darren Keen’s flamboyance shimmers through every inch of The Show Is The Rainbow, from his seizure of synthed-up beats to his hyper, bitchy lyrics, which he alternately raps, shouts, and shrieks. 2007’s Gymnasia pushes a punchy half-hour of electro-pop and hip-hop past the silly exterior, and 2009’s Wet Fist is positively Beefheartian in spots, applying the venerable Captain’s philosophy of getting weird and wild for weirdness and wildness’ sake to funk rhythms and glitchy electronics. Describing his upcoming album, Tickled Pink, Keen says, “This album is about not getting down on your former self, and being proud of who you are today. I smoke weed.” - AV Club

Let’s face it, it’s impossible to be bored at a TSITR show, which is more than I can say for 90 percent of the indie bands that come through town. And for those folks who will stumble onto Darren by accident as he and his girlfriend crisscross the country over the next eight months, he could be a revelation. - Lazy-i.com

This is band/guy you just have to see to get the full experience of his work. The Show is the Rainbow is Darren Keen who has been touring all over the country for a number of years presenting his own form of energetic, frantic cathartic dance rock ... Watching Darren Keen get into his zone as he jumps, climbs and moshes with himself (oh no, it is possible) shows the audience that this guy really enjoys what he is doing and really wants the audience to enjoy the show as much as he does. - Drunken Attraction

BIO
My name is Darren Keen. Eight years ago I started playing shows as The Show is the Rainbow. I make experimental, psychedleic, hip hop-influenced electronic music. I tour all the time, and have played just under 1,000 shows all over the US, Europe, and New Zealand. I put on very high energy, unpretentious, multimedia-infused live shows. Instead of torturing myself seeking perfection and acceptance, I pride myself on being very prolific, and a beacon of positivity and creativity for other fun, interesting individuals.

I have played all types of shows, from tiny basements, to festivals in Norway and New Zealand. I have done plenty of my own touring, but have also enjoyed doing support slots for acts as diverse as The Mae Shi, The Faint, Neil Hamburger, Mindless Self Indulgence, and Cursive.

MORE ABOUT DARREN KEEN
[Hear Nebraska] A full-time touring musician, Darren has played just under 1,000 shows in the U.S., Europe and New Zealand. His three one-man bands -- The Show is the Rainbow, Touch People and Bad Speler -- are each unique, but they all feature extreme musicianship, a serious lack of pretension, and forward thought using electronics and computers. He eliminates the traditional performer-crowd separation and makes every show thought-provoking and memorable. He is also a Hear Nebraska contributor. You can read his controversial column "Pay the cover" here. Darren Keen has been featured in the Hear Nebraska " Aperture Needle" Series. Aperture Needle exposes what lies beneath artists' skin. Find out about Darren's tattoos and what they mean to him here.
