Welcome to the George Perez Website version 5.1.

In August 2021, I found out that Google Sites (Classic), which was hosting the George Perez Website for the last 13 years, was shutting down and, in a hurry, I downloaded the archived content and temporarily moved to Typepad.

Occasionally, I would post some major updates to the website, but it wasn’t a priority, while I was still trying to figure out what to do. While I still wanted to create a comprehensive checklist… Typepad really wasn’t design as a static website. Since it’s designed as a blogging/news update, that is what I’ll be focusing on version 5.1.

While social media (Twitter, Facebook) has high engagement and instant feedback… I find that it’s almost impossible to search for historic posts. These websites aren’t interested in serving you old news. Plus, you’re almost required to have an account to do any sort of deep searching.

With Typepad, you can search old entries, and, because it’s open. There’s no privacy concern, and you can search the website anonymously and from country.

The problem right now, is that I don’t have enough content to make search that useful… but hopefully that might all change throughout the upcoming year. I am also hoping to raise the ranking on Google and Bing, so please bookmark thegeorgeperez.com or add the link to your website or blog. Related George Perez Website Version 5 (25 Aug 2021) Unfortunately, Google Sites (Classic Version) have shut down. The George Perez Website Version 4 lived on Google Sites for the last 13 years. For that, I thank Google. If you are wondering, I did play around with the "New" Google Sites.... and it wasn't very good. It is very basic and simple.

As previously mentioned, I'm in the process of moving my website to another server, because Google Sites (Classic) is being shut down as of September 1st, 2021. That's only a few days from today... so, I bid farewell to George Perez Website Version 4.

Again, I don't blame Google for wanting to shut it down, it was, after all, a free service. I was actually surprised they even offered such a thing, considering Squarespace charges $12/month for personal and $18/month for business.

Google offered to "convert" my website to the new format, but unfortunately they gave me this error: "Your site exceeds the maximum number of pages that can be converted to New Sites. Please reduce the size of your site to under 1200 pages, then try again."

My only choice was to download it on my computer. The website was so big, they had to compressed it to 5GB in three separate files.

After I unzipped all my files, the grand total was nearly 12GB and contained over 32,500 files! All that work, collecting news (almost daily), collecting checklist material, collecting variant covers, and various updates, over 13 years, really adds up, I guess.

It's kind of fun to look over some of the old news... some not really worth mentioning. Still, I'll find some important news, such as George Perez's heart attack, and re-post them here (backdated to the original date).

I'm also playing around with formatting and seeing what works.

If you have any suggestions, especially if it's free or costs very little money, I would love to check it out.

Unfortunately, Google Sites (Classic Version) have shut down.  The George Perez Website Version 4 lived on Google Sites for the last 13 years. For that, I thank Google.

If you are wondering, I did play around with the "New" Google Sites.... and it wasn't very good.  It is very basic and simple.

According to google.com: "Starting September 1, 2021, classic Sites will no longer be viewable by anyone. If you want your websites to continue to be viewable, you must convert and publish them to the new Google Sites experience before September 1, 2021."

While I look into migration to another website host (preferably free)... I'm temporarily posting news here, at Typepad.

Update: I'm in the process of exporting Version 4 and archive it on my harddrive. It's hard to believe that over 13 years, the website has over 5.5GB of data. I'm still pretty sad about the whole thing... but at least not all is lost if I can save the website on my computer.
