Hello again, my dear friends, fans and family:
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as each of you ushered in the new year in your own fashion. It looks like I will be kept quite busy in 2022 if my schedule for January alone is any indication. So many wonderful people determined to keep my days full and my spirits elevated with visits, dining and a cascade of loving texts, emails, phone calls and letters expressing love, support and gratitude.
I’ve been especially touched by the number of people who have expressed gratitude for my inspiring them through my art and stories. One can never really predict or appreciate how much one’s own stories and art can affect, influence and inspire those who read them.
Which leads me to offering thanks of my own. I want to personally thank those great creative writers who provided me with the tools and direction that challenged me to be visually creative and to become a better storyteller throughout the years. There are so many wondrous scribes I would like to thank, and I apologize sincerely for any omissions. It is definitely not because I think less of them; it’s simply because I want to keep this post from being too unwieldy.
Of course, I can’t even start a list like this without singling out my wonderful friend Marv Wolfman, who I consider the gold standard by which I measure any collaborative relationship. I don’t know where I would be as a creator if it hadn’t been for this beautiful man. He’s inspired me like no other, and I am proud to call him my friend.
Following very, very closely behind are such creative luminaries like Kurt Busiek, Peter David, Steve Englehart, Len Wein, Doug Moench (the very first writer I ever worked with professionally), Jim Shooter, Jim Starlin, David Kraft, Bill Mantlo, Warren Ellis, Barbara Kesel, Chris Claremont, Mark Waid, Roy Thomas, Ron Marz, Tony Isabella, David Michelinie, Gail Simone, Gerry Conway/ Paul Levitz and all the other greats who helped me look so good. When fans thank me, they are thanking you as well.
Thank you all for helping me look so damn good.
