One of my favorite record of 2013 is the self-titled album by Matt Costa. The SoCal singer/songwriter is back on tour in support of his forthcoming album Santa Rosa Fangs (due out May 18th on Dangerbird Records).

With the new album, Costa said, “I’ve interwoven my own stories into a fictional idea of what Santa Rosa Fangs is, from my own time spent living in Northern and Southern California and years driving up and down the coast, seeing the landscape and where life can pull you within one state. It’s the characters’ story and my story, too, contemporary but still tortured by the past. It’s a window into a time period but spoken as if it’s the present. The beauty of love and loss doesn’t have a date on it; it’s timeless.”

Opening up the show will be Elizabeth & The Catapult - who released one of my favorite albums of 2009, Taller Children, thanks to Elizabeth Ziman’s wonderful jazz/chamber-pop vocals.

The Head And The Heart is returning to the Twin Cities at the newly minted Armory in Minneapolis on Wednesday. We previously saw the band on Oct 2014 and wrote, “After an almost two hour delay, the crowd was released back outside and crowded the main stage (where extended applause took place for the stagehand that removed the protective plastic from the high stagelights) for Seattle favorites, The Head and the Heart, who had maybe the biggest overall sound of the festival acts. Led by co-vocalists Josiah Johnson, Charity Rose Thielen, and Jonathan Russell, the band’s 50 min. set leaned heavily on last year’s Let’s Be Still (Sub Pop Records) and the damp crowd showed why Minneapolis is one of the band’s best markets.”

Grouplove will open.

All-girls punk trio The Coathangers is back in town, this time headlining the 7th Street Entry to support their new EP Parasite on Suicide Squeeze Records. There is a limited pressing of only 2,000 copies (with one-sided 12” etching on Sea Green vinyl), so be sure to grab a copy when you see them on this tour.

The last time we saw them in 2015, we wrote, “The band seemed to be having as much fun as the crowd. All members had come to the stage equipped with beverages including a bottle of wine. CK joked that they were allowing themselves a drink every two songs, but after a few tunes the “rule” didn’t stick and she started taking healthy swigs out of the wine bottle whenever she wanted.”

Comedy duo Tim & Eric (Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim) is currently on a “Tim & Eric 10 Year Anniversary Awesome Tour!”

We previously caught Tim’s sold out comedy show at the Cedar in 2015 and wrote, “The first part of his show is truly unique to our show, he's written a few Minneapolis-specific jokes, including buying "mini-sodas" and "mini-apples". The Minneapolis music jokes of Hüsker Don't and the original Replacements got a big laugh. Of course, when the obvious choice of Prince came up, he said there was just too much respect there to joke about.”
