Since we've mentioned Noah and the Whale quite a bit, I'm leaving them off this list - sorry guys.
SAID THE WHALE
saidthewhale.com
Said the Whale is from Vancouver, Canada, and they are stopping here in Minneapolis at the 400 Bar this September 5th. Lara said she'll cover them when they come through town.
I did some background check on the band, apparently the band debut in 2007 with Talking Abalonia, but that didn't work out, so they re-release the same album under a new name of Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia, a year later. Edit: Oh Wikipedia. Talking Abalonia was an EP, it was re-released with 7 additional new songs as Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia.
Tour dates below:
WHALE HEART RECORDS
whaleheartrecords.com
The last news item I got from New York's Whale Heart Records is that they've released Atlanta's "gothic folk" Little Horn's album, Twelve in late July.
The album is mostly through the hard work of Keith Forrester, who originally put together his band via Craigslist, although his current line-up consists of his little brother and the rhythm section of Whale Heart's other band, Lille.... and one DJ.
Anyway, check out their website, it's like a tumblr blog.
WALE
facebook.com/waleofficial
We don't really get that many press releases from major labels, but lately, I got one from ABC Records and Warner Brothers Records (aka WB Records).
You can read more details at news.weheartmusic.com, but I'll sum it up for you:
Wale is from Washington, DC, and he was/is currently on tour. Since the previous dates have come and gone, below are the one remaining date (he is playing Chicago tonight):
Well, if you've missed him, you can grab his free mixtape, The Eleven One Eleven, at lifeandtimes.com
See why his talent got over 1 million twitter followers and why his mixtape crashed Hulkshare's servers.
Look for Wale's upcoming album, Ambition, on November 1st, 2011.
