BIG EYES

We caught Brooklyn’s Big Eyes in May 2017 and wrote, “The quartet (singer / guitarist Kait Eldridge, guitarist Paul Ridenour, bassist Malcolm Donaldson, and drummer Griffin Harrison), played tracks from their third LP Stake My Claim (Don Giovanni Records)... including title track ‘Stake My Claim’. Eldridge mentioned that they have sold almost all the 7” to their single ‘Local Celebrity’, but had one copy left (which was gone by the end of the show).”
With the recent single, “Nearly Got Away”, taken from the album Streets of the Lost (Greenway Records), it appears that the band will be back on a Summer tour:

Hey Violet: Close My Eyes

HEY VIOLET
heyviolet.com
Los Angeles’ Hey Violet is back with a new track called “Close My Eyes”, available on Hi or Hey/Capitol Records.
“‘Close My Eyes’ is essentially about living in a fantasy land, says front woman Rena Lovelis. “It’s about the idea of still wanting to be with an ex who has already moved on. There’s definitely a level of denial that goes into being in that sort of headspace because you’re basically rejecting the present reality and not allowing yourself to move forward. The song sounds very calm and chill but in the lyrical content there’s an air of tension because of that refusal to accept things as they are.”
To celebrate the new song, the trio (sisters bassist Rena Lovelis and drummer Nia Lovelis with lead guitarist Casey Moreta) will be playing a few shows this Summer.

Bodywash: Eye To Eye

BODYWASH
bodywashmtl.bandcamp.com
Introducing dream-pop band Bodywash. The Montréal band signed with Luminelle Recordings and they are working on their debut album (to be available this Summer). Although it is their first record, the truth is Bodywash formed in 2014 when Chris Steward and Rosie Long Decter began working together in a basement rehearsal room at McGill University. The band released an EP in 2016 when they added Tom Gould on bass.
While they are putting the finishing touches on the debut album, the first single is called “Eye To Eye” (mixed by Nigel Ward from Seoul).
Chris Steward talked about the song, “In the case of “Eye to Eye”, I think nearly the entire song was recorded in demo form that night. The song draws upon the idea that reciprocity governs all our interactions with the external world. Reciprocity is the lifeblood of all human relationships, whether romantic, platonic or somewhere in-between; “Eye to Eye” expresses what happens when that understanding is thrown off balance…”

Emmrose: Dangerous Eyes
|
EMMROSE
https://www.emmrosemusic.com
NYC artist Emmrose released “Dangerous Eyes”. What’s interesting is that Emmrose is only 15 years old. The song will be available on her debut EP Hopeless Romantics, due out this summer.
Here’s the origin of “Dangerous Eyes”: “I was in my 8th grade math class when I started writing this song. I wrote the chorus and melody in my math class grid notebook. A group of kids were sitting at a table, away from me with this kid that I liked at the time, and he looked at me with this expression that captured how isolated I felt at the time. I wanted so much to be part of that group of kids. Earlier that week I had asked him to have coffee with me, and he replied, “Don’t take this personally, but I hate you,” and just walked away. He never said anything nice, and always left me gasping for breath, thus the lyrics, ‘Hold back that dangerous tongue, that fills the breath of my lungs’”.
