Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before... the story is old, but it goes on...
England is Mine ... and it owes Morrissey a living.
The upcoming film England is Mine, directed by Mark Gill, is about Steven Patrick Morrissey in his early life in Manchester, meeting a young Johnny Marr and before becoming the lead singer of The Smiths.
The film poster lists from the producers of Control, which I wasn’t terribly fond of that Joy Division/Ian Curtis film. The problem is that it’s based on historical facts... and was somewhat of a boring drama to me. I’m not expecting aliens and laser guns, but I found myself not really caring for the story since I already knew how it would end.
The same problem is for this biopic, at least for me, is that I already know about Morrissey & Marr, having read any and all biography books (prior to 1999, of course). I’m probably not going out of my way to go to the theaters, but I’ll, you know, Netflix and pill.
Details:
In cinemas August 4.

Satiate the need, slip them into different sleeves! Buy both, and feel deceived.
Since Morrissey got a hold of his official Facebook account, he’s been really vocal. Remember that Manchester bombing on Morrissey’s birthday (May 22nd)? Yeah, Morrissey had to chime in. Spin wrote “Morrissey Says Something Predictably Dumb About the Manchester Bombing” and summed up how some people felt about it. Even some hardcore fans are saying “Morrissey, shut up!”
The latest controversy is Morrissey’s comment about The Smiths’ reissues of The Queen is Dead on 7” and 12” vinyl. Moz thinks that HMV’s “Limited to One Per Customer” stickers were an effort to “attempt to freeze sales is, of course, an overwhelming insult to the Smiths.”
Here’s the facts, these stickers are meant to stop hooligans from buying all the copies from fans and re-selling them for a large profit. It’s not meant to stop people from buying the Smiths, and, let’s be honest, if the label really wanted to sell a zillion copies ... they should have had a larger print run.
HMV already stated that 90% of the records sold out the week of the release.

Morrissey & Marshall, not to be confused with Morrissey & Marr, is a duo of two friends Darren Morrissey and Greg Marshall. According to their biography, the were discovered by The Magic Numbers at a local bar in Kilburn.... “And So It Began...” as their record stated.
Their new record We Rise came out last month, June 13, 2017, via NB Germany.
I checked out their new song ‘Hangin’ Around’, and it sounded a bit like the Beatles.
They described the song as “a song about a love affair with boozing and partying”, and the music video stars Hugh Cooney.
Tour dates:
07/23/17 - Tonefest
07/28/17 - Carfest North, Cheshire
10/05/17 - Half-Moon, Putney
