Originally, The Lemonheads were scheduled to play in the closet-sized 7th Street Entry, but seeing as tickets sold-out, they upgraded the band to the full-sized room at First Avenue. That was a good idea because there were a lot of people filling out the bigger room. Everyone was basking in the 90s nostalgia.
I thought I was late, arriving at 7:30pm, but as the clock rolled into 8:30, I was told by a fellow photographer that the opening band, The Shining Twins, wasn't going to make it. I suspect they were stuck in traffic or something.
It was okay, I don't think the audience there last night cared for anything other than Evan Dando and the Lemonheads, although people were a bit antsy, wondering when the opener was going to go on (there was no formal announcement).
Instead of playing an extra long set, the Lemonheads pretty much stuck to their original setlist. As you can expect from the so-called "It's a Shame About Ray Tour", they pretty much did all the songs on the 1992 album. Yes, all your (and mine) favorite songs were played: "Rockin Stroll", "It's a Shame About Ray", "My Drug Buddy", "Confetti", "Alison's Starting to Happen", "Bit Part", etc. The difference between Evan Dando (with Juliana Hatfield) at NXNE in Toronto, is that this new tour is more "rock" and noisy than the more intimate acoustic setting a few months ago.
Anyway, since the original album clocked under 30 minutes, they did throw in a few songs from the later years, including "Hospital" from The Lemonheads' come-back 1996 album, Car Button Cloth and "No Backbone" from the self-titled 2006 album. Please refer to the TWO setlists - one with the normal band, and a second one just for Evan, who played a brief thirty minute solo set, taking in one or two requests.
The Lemonheads didn't do a standard encore, however, they had the opening band, The Shining Twins (named after the Stanley Kubrick creepy dead twins), came on stage to play one of their song to "give us a taste of what we missed". Apparently the two girls finally made it to the venue and they looked super excited to be on stage. Based on what I heard from the very last song, they sounded very energetic and fun. The two girls look very, very young and pretty. Should be interesting to see how the band will progress.
Well, I had a good time, if you're a child of the early 90s, you'll want to re-live your childhood by seeing the Lemonheads on tour.

I was at the show, too, and agree with most of your review. However, I do want to say that you're completely leaving out a significant number of songs that the full-band played after Evan's solo set. I didn't write a list or count the exact number but I think they played a good 5-8 songs, including most of the standouts from "Come on Feel the Lemonheads" and "Car Button Cloth." That set effectively *was* the encore, minus the charade of going off-stage for a few minutes and making the crowd beg for more. So, overall, if you count the one song Evan played with the Shining Twins, we were treated to close to 30 songs performed by Evan Dando, which is more than I would have expected. So, nice review, but you definitely give a different impression of the show when you omit that 2nd full-band segment.
