If you know me, you know that I collect comic books, although not as much as I used to. I try and keep up, at the moment, I'm really enjoying what Marvel is doing, despite the fact that I used to be a huge DC junkie. DC's current direction with its editorial staff is not doing a good job, having a few high-profiled writers and artists (George Perez, Rob Liefeld, JH Williams III, just to name a few) leaving the company.
FALLCON
midwestcomicbook.com
I've been going to FallCon since 2000, before they moved and upgraded to the much larger Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St Paul.
Anyway, there are two comic book shows by the MCBA (Midwest Comic Book Association): FallCon and Spring Con. They happen every year, like clockworks, and this upcoming FallCon is taking place Saturday, October 5th. Admission is $8, but if you bring a can of food, they knock off a $1.
The entire guestlist for FallCon is listed here, but big draw for me is Dan Jurgens, Doug Mahnke, and Mark Waid.

WIZARD MINNEAPOLIS COMIC CON
wizardworld.com
Speaking of MCBA's SpringCon (May 17th and 18th), which is a few weeks after Wizard's Minneapolis Comic Con 2014 debut (May 2nd to 4th)! Can these two conventions exist side-by-side? The thing with Wizard is that they bring in a higher production and high-profile comic (and television/movie guests). But with that, the price of admission is a lot higher, they are listing $75 for all three days (single days are as much as $45.00) and any autographs/photo op with celebrities will have an additional cost. It is a money sink, but sometime this is the only opportunity you'll have access to these guests.
Also, it's still early days and guests have not been announced or finalized, but so far artist Ethan Van Sciver, Dean Cain (Lois and Clark) and James Marsters (Buffy), are scheduled to appear.
