Lead singer of soul group The Main Ingredient, Cuba Gooding, Sr., has passed away at the age of 72. He was found dead in his car on Thursday (April 20th).
Rolling Stone said that “Gooding appeared to have died of natural causes or a drug overdose.”
Gooding Sr originally was the backup singer on the Main Ingredient, but became the lead singer after the death of former frontman Donald McPherson in 1971. The group’s biggest hit song, ‘Everybody Plays the Fool’ came out in 1972 and sold over 1 million copies.
It should also be noted that Cuba Gooding Sr is the father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr.
