The Henry Clay People is a rock band from California, fronted by two brothers, Joey and Andy Siara. They formed five years ago, and in that time have released three studio albums, so writing music seems to comes easy for the brothers.
We were lucky enough to have them stop by on tour with Drive-By Truckers on Thursday, September 30th, at First Avenue, in Minneapolis. Since the show that night was relatively an early show, The Henry Clay People started around 7pm and played for about an hour.
The setlist was a full set with some banters in-between the songs (Joey did most of the talking it seems). He joked about the Twins, who were playing baseball across the street, and he mentioned that Andy cracked his ribs in Virginia.
As for the music, they seem to be heavily influenced by late 70s rock epic songs. So pretty heavy and noisy, the slowest they got was "Rock and Roll Has Lost Its Teeth", which I'm pretty sure they changed the lyrics from "facist kids with safety pins" to "vicious kids with safety pins".
I did try and check out more of the band's music, ended up streaming most of their new album, Somewhere on the Golden Coast on their official website. As a bonus, you can get "Slow Burn" as a free download from their website.
If you live in Minneapolis and missed The Henry Clay People this time around, the good news is that they're going to come back to a more smaller and intimate venue of 7th Street Entry on the 20th of October.
Below is the rest of their full fall tour dates.
