Lucy Dacus was recently pick of SXSW roundtable from Brody, who said she was incredible. Dacus will be stopping by the 7th Street Entry on Wednesday to promote her sophomore album Historian, available now on Matador Records. The show is sold out.

In an in-depth New York Times feature/interview (at nytimes.com), they cover everything from her outspokenness about about feminism and how she’s always reading about 5 books at a time.

And The Kids and Adult Mom will open the show. We previously saw the former with Highly Suspect in Apr 2017 and noted, “Normally a quartet (Hannah Mohan, Rebecca Lasaponaro, Megan Miller, Taliana Katz), I believe for their live shows, they’re only trio (minus Megan Miller on keys)... as with their previous appearance in April 2016, opening up for Ra Ra Riot.”

Legendary metal band Judas Priest is back in the U.S. to promote their new studio Firepower.

I believe for this tour, former Sabbat guitarist Andy Sneap will be one of the twin guitarist. Judas Priest’s regular guitarist Glenn Tipton announced that he has Parkinson’s disease and have stepped down from performing live… however, having said that, Tipton joined the band on stage perform “Breaking the Law” and some other JP classic songs.

Show up early to check out The Ballroom Thieves, who we saw in May 2015 and wrote, “The Ballroom Thieves, on their second appearance in Minneapolis (previously also billed at Byrant-Lake Bowl), was pleased to see that the room was full this time around. Drummer Devin Mauch, who is celebrating his birthday today (May 14th), said that they originally didn't have Minneapolis on their tour itinerary, but they made the extra effort to put the city back on their schedule. Thanks to word of mouth, there was a really good turn out for the show... especially on a Wednesday.”

Unfortunately, he will not be playing any hit parody songs such as “Eat It” or the recent fan-favorites “Foils”... instead this so-called “The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour” will just feature Weird Al’s original songs.

Which is lovely, if you want to hear those songs. Even Weird Al warned fans before purchasing tickets:

In case you haven’t heard the rumors… THIS WILL NOT BE OUR NORMAL KIND OF TOUR.... No costumes, no props, no video screens, no computer servers. Athens-based New Madrid will be making a stop at the Turf Club in St Paul on Sunday, December 19th in support of their 2014 album Sunswimmer (Normaltown Records). These guys have an awesome sound that is almost psych-rock but not quite. At times it just sounds like layers upon layers of noise and then the next song sounds like a straight up rock song. They are said to be working on a new album coming out next year, so I'm anxious to see what the new songs sound like!

They will be opening for All Them Witches who were here in February and played to a packed house at the 7th Street Entry.

Boston's The Ballroom Thieves just played Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater in Minneapolis last night, May 13th. Don't let the Bowling Theater fool you, this was organized and booked by the Cedar Cultural Center, now in its 26th year.

Jake Jones

Opening up the show was local musician Jake Jones with a full backing band. We previously mentioned opened up for Mockingbird Son.

The band did a lot of songs from The Arrowhead EP, including "Jake - Mexico", "Serenity", and set closer "Cowboy Song" (which got a loud yip from a fan in the audience). The band also threw in a brand, brand new song called "Chasing Dream", on their 30-min set.

The Ballroom Thieves, on their second appearance in Minneapolis (previously also billed at Byrant-Lake Bowl), was pleased to see that the room was full this time around. Drummer Devin Mauch, who is celebrating his birthday today (May 14th), said that they originally didn't have Minneapolis on their tour itinerary, but they made the extra effort to put the city back on their schedule. Thanks to word of mouth, there was a really good turn out for the show... especially on a Wednesday.

If you've never been to Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater, it is a small room inside a bowling alley. The unfortunate thing is if you sit near the entrance, you will often hear the pins crashing whenever someone enters or leaves the room. The bowling aspect actually inspired Mauch to advertise for the venue, trying to sell us this $30 deal of a bowling game, a bottle of wine and two entrees. The 6'4" drummer said, "If I lived here, I'd date anyone every night to take advantage of the deal!"

The majority of the songs were sung by guitarist Martin Earley, except "Bury Me Smiling", which was sung by cellist Calin Peters. According to the band, they only met her two years ago, and she said she only sang in the showers or driving or whenever she's drinking. "Those days are done!" Earley said, and so they convinced Peters to do more vocals.

Other highlight of their set included a cover of "Game of Thrones Main Theme", medley into their "Vampires" song. As a big fan of the HBO series (as are The Ballroom Thieves), I recognized the first few notes right away.

As you can see from their setlist, the majority of songs were taken from their latest album A Wolf in the Doorway. They basically played almost the entire album, leaving just two or three songs off. When they came back for the encore, which was a very brief pretend walking down the stairs that went nowhere behind the stage, they played a brand new song called "Anybody Else".

The Ballroom Thieves' A Wolf in the Doorway is out now via Blue Corn Music.

"The Wolf" is the new single from Mumford & Sons' third album Wilder Mind. The album came out last week, May 4th via Gentlemen of the Road / Glassnote Records. Produced in London by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, HAIM, Florence & The Machine), and recorded at AIR Studios in London, Wilder Mind features twelve new tracks written collaboratively by the band in London, Texas, and at Aaron Dessner's (The National) garage studios in Brooklyn.

New York's Glockabelle has a new EP called Wolf BBQ, set for release next week, May 19th.

The thing with Glockabelle (aka Annabelle Cazes) is that she plays "a lyre-shaped glockenspiel with eight thimbles and two pocket calculator Casios."

Wolf BBQ EP is described as "a collection of mostly unreleased tracks. The result is a collection of equally playful and technically complex tracks filled with surf and punk tendencies, all brought together with her intricate synths and controlled madness."
