Three of Clubs isn’t considered a great card in poker or in blackjack,
But, in terms of indie-pop/rock, the Three of Clubs Fall Tour is much closer to a winning hand. …
I've previously mentioned Terraplane Sun before, stating that they were a five-piece blues rock band from California.
The band recently released a new song …
After recently opening for Charli XCX, Bastille and The Neighbourhood, Little Daylight will be releasing a debut album on Capitol Records. In the meantime, you can grab their EP called Tunnel Vision, which is out now. …
We last saw the Three of Clubs tour last year with American Authors, Royal Concept, and Misterwives. The new Three of Clubs Spring Tour 2014 features three new cards in the deck: Little Daylight, Flagship, and Terraplane Sun. The tour stopped in Minneapolis at the Triple Rock Social Club on April 12th.
Little Daylight
Kicking off the event was Little Daylight, a band that was probably named after a fairytale about a little princess. The band played some new tracks from their forthcoming debut album, including "Siren Call."
Nikki Taylor, in a sleek evening dress, was pretty interactive with the crowd. Sometime she would get the audience to dance by saying things like, "I won't judge you," which encouraged a few fans to jump to the front to dance away.
They ended their brief set with "Overdose," the lead track from their EP Tunnel Vision (Capitol Records). Surprisingly the audience started chanting "One more song!" and "Encore!"
Flagship's soundcheck and stage setup took nearly an hour, going well passed their originally set time of 9:30pm. I am assuming the long setup was due to sound problems with their guitarist's mic and also the various stage light and light bulbs. Although I did appreciate the extra lights, it ultimately did not justify the hour long wait, in my opinion.
Flagship
The Charlotte band's singer Drake Margolnick would often sing with his hands outstretch and when he sings in falsetto, he sounds eerily like Thom Yorke.
Highlight of their set was "Still I Wait," a song about a girl that broke Margolnick's heart.
They ended their set with "The Fool," which got help from Terraplane Sun's trombone player Gabe Feenberg.
Terraplane Sun took the stage a little after 11pm, apologizing for the delay. The self-described "blues indie rock folk dance soul" California band did not seem to mind a drunken fan, who often invaded the stage to take center spotlight. Personally, I believe the stage is reserved for the performers, not goofballs, so this person/fan was a massive distraction for me.
A few highlights for me, probably their new song called "Weekend", and also the finale song of "Get Me Golden." On the latter song, singer, Ben Rothbard, suggested we should "boogie to this song."
The latest Three of Clubs Spring Tour 2014, with Little Daylight, Flagship, and Terraplane Sun, will be ending this April.
Terraplane Sune at Triple Rock Social Club, Minneapolis (04/12/14)
As for Sleepy Sun, I managed to catch the band in 2009, when they were touring in support of Embrace.
The San Francisco band recently released their new 7" on Dine Alone Records.…
Sleepy Sun will be releasing a fourth LP called Maui Tears on January 28th, 2014, via Dine Alone Records.
Psych-Out Christmas
Cleopatra Records
In the meantime, check out Psych-Out Christmas from Cleopatra Records, released last November. The double disc (double vinyl) collection contain a lot of Christmas and holiday songs from your favorite artists: Iggy Pop, The Fuzztones, Sons Of Hippies, Dead Meadow, Psychic Ills, Dark Horses, Quintron & Miss Pussycat etc.
Among the artist is Sleep Sun's version of "What Child Is This?", which you can hear on Soundcloud.
Sleepy Sun at the 7th Street Entry (04/02/09)
I caught Sleepy Sun at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis in 2009, which I noted for their lengthy psychedelic songs: "Surprisingly, they had a pretty short setlist ... but they seem to stretch out each song to about 6+ minutes, especially with the drone-like guitar and experimental effects usually reserved towards the end of each song. I particularly liked how "White Dove" and "New Age" ended on their live set."
Look for Sleepy Sun to return on the road when Maui Tears is released.
Setting Sun's new album is called Be Here When You Get There, which came out last November.
The band will be doing a residency over at Pete's Candy Store in 2014 - warming up to their massive European tour in May 2014.

Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson formed Sunn o))) together, originally as a tribute band to Earth. Eventually, Sunn o))) started making waves with their own highly unique drone-doom sound
.…
In 2008, Sunn O))) announced at their 200th gig at the Øya festival that they will be working with Norwegian legends Ulver. The two bands came into the studio and did three three "live in improvisation" pieces, starting that evening and ending at dawn.
Ulver's singer Kristoffer Rygg talks about the recording process, "We were sitting in the console room, early in the morning, listening to the takes. Someone said, 'ah, sunrise over Crystal Canyon,' as if the night had been a dark one. We all laughed and Greg proposed it as a title. In that setting it sounded perfect. The boys had mentioned wanting the music to orient towards the light, like some lost pilgrim stretching before the sun. We kept that mental picture for the processing."
The Sunn O)))/Ulver collaboration record is called Terrestrials, and it is hitting stores on February 4th, 2014, via Southern Lord. Since Sunn O))) is primarily a touring band, expect them to head out on tour in 2014. Ulver, on the other hand, is doing a few dates in Europe:
02/06/14 Lido Berlin, Germany
02/10/14 Szene Wien Vienna, Austria
02/11/14 Backstage Munich, Germany
02/12/14 Die Werkstatt Cologne, Germany
02/13/14 Tilburg, Netherlands
For most attendees, this was their first opportunity to hear new tracks by the likes of Fratellis, Mazzy Star, Janelle Monae w/ Prince, Rudimental, and Bastille..…
Fresh after the release of their EP Drowning Butterflies (December 10, 2013 via Priority Records), Manchester's Bipolar Sunshine, the stagename for Adio Marchan, announced a string of headlining tour dates in March/April, as well as supporting Phoenix and Rudimental in February.

Austin's Abram Shook (Shearwater, The Low Lows) has a new album called Sun Marquee. Shook is the singer of the Bowie-inspired rock band The Great Nostalgic, but with Sun Marquee, it is said that it's "new-tropical, bedroom-soul" sound.
Sun Marquee will be coming out on January 21st, 2014, on on Western Vinyl.
Los Angeles' Portable Sunsets is the latest band on Mutecast (Episode #42), which I think is a podcast produced by the people at RTFKT (you may recall we've mentioned them a few times.)
The description I was given is that Portable Sunsets were guests at Mutecast's Amsterdam Dance Event, where they recorded a live performance and interview/talk.
You can hear the whole thing over at Soundcloud.
San Francisco's A Million Billion Dying Suns is the project of Nate Mercereau.
When he plays live, he's accompanied by Steve Wyreman (guitar), Josh Lippi (bass), Derek Taylor (drums) and Ben Schwier (keys).
A Million Billion Dying Suns' debut EP is called Strawberry. You can hear the whole thing over at Soundcloud.
Weekends is Tiger Waves' debut single, which came out this week (December 17th) on Canvasback Music (yes, the same label that signed Alt-J, Grouplove, The Joy Formidable, Frightened Rabbit and The Orwells).
You can hear Tiger Waves' song "Sundressed", the b-side to Weekends over at Consequence of Sound.
Ask anyone that's ever own an Xbox 360, and they'll tell you they've experienced the dreaded Red Ring of Death. In fact, they've probably had it several times in their console's life cycle....
I briefly mentioned Britt Nicole a few years ago. She just premiered her title track for her album, Gold, today (November 29th) on Vevo.
The Nashville-based Britt Nicole will be re-releasing Gold on February 26th via Capitol Records. The album is repackaged from her Sparrow Records release (originally in March and debuted at #41 on the Top 100 Billboard Charts.)
Apparently there is an anti-bullying message and belief in yourself on Gold, as Nicole explained, "The message of Gold is to remind those kids that are struggling that no matter what they have been told they are worth so much more than the words of another. Once you know that, no one can ever steal your shine."
Nicole will be doing two special "first-ever" Capitol Records debut performances in Los Angeles and New York City:
01/09/13 - The Roxy in L.A. at 7pm
01/16/13 - Canal Room in N.Y.C. at 7 p.m.
Look for new mixes of "Gold" (including a club mix) on the upcoming Gold EP (to be released digitally on December 18th).
As for Gold Fields, it's only been two weeks since we last saw the Australian boys. They were in sunny Los Angeles last night, so it was a cold shock when they landed in Minneapolis. I hate to break this to them, but that wasn't cold what ....
I have some updates on the Australian band, their debut album will be called Black Sun and it's set for release February 26th, 2013. Currently you can only get Dark Again single, and possibly Treehouse, so it's slim picking if you want more music from Gold Fields.
We like these guys, having seen them twice this year, so check them out if they're playing near you:

This really came out of nowhere for me. My bf will load up my library list and when I go pick up my junk I usually get little suprises like this. It's really a wonderful album and Sufjan Stevens has a haunting and lovely voice.....
Singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens just released his 50+ Christmas five-disc album, Silver & Gold, collecting Songs for Christmas, Vol 6-10.
Stevens is currently on tour, I am assuming he'll be doing at least one or two xmas songs?

My number one complaint about the Xbox is Xbox Gold. I seriously don't understand why there are so many Xbox fanboys out there? They love paying for Xbox Gold, they don't think there's anything wrong with the service.
Just to be clear on my thoughts on this: Xbox Gold is a scam. Imagine this: you buy a computer and when you want to send an email*, or play an online game like World of Warcraft, or Netflix, or Twitter, or Facebook, and your computer prompt up a message that you need to buy a year of "Gold". That's exactly what Xbox Gold is to me.
Prices for Xbox Gold is $15 a month**. So do the math: if you want to stream Netflix, it's $8 for Netflix, plus $15 for Xbox Gold. On any other platform, PS3, computer, Roku, "Smart" Blu-Ray players, etc., there isn't a $15 extra fee.
Here's another scenario for you: You got a redemption code for a free Vudu movie. You launch Xbox and boo-hoo, you have to pay $15 to Xbox Gold just to watch a $3.99 movie. That's the kind of restriction I'm talking about.
What's heartbreaking is a free service like YouTube requires you to pay the $15 fee, which is unbelievable considering that YouTube is free everywhere else. Do you know of any other platform that asks you to pay for YouTube (we're talking about the free content here, not the paid movies YouTube sells.)
Sadly, my original first generation PlayStation 3 died. It was temporarily fixed, but as I figured, it eventually broke again. So I'm taking in my Xbox and selling it to get a new PS3. Goodbye Xbox and good riddance.
PS: Xbox Music, not worth it. You pay a subscription of $100 a year, plus $60 for Xbox Gold to access it on the Xbox, making it the world's most expensive music subscription model.
* This is a real complaint: "You need to have an Xbox LIVE Gold membership to send messages on Xbox.com."
** To be fair, most fanboys buys Xbox Gold as a discounted annual fee of $60 or whatever special offers they get.
Willy Mason is a singer-songwriter, who came into fame via mister Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst, signing him on his record label.
His upcoming release is Don't Stop Now EP, set for release on January 14th, 2013, via Communion Records (available digitally and limited 10"). The EP is a sampling of what's to come for his third studio album, also due out later in 2013.
You can enjoy his new single and video for "I Got Gold" on YouTube.
Mason will also begin his North American tour around the release of the EP, starting in Montreal on January 13th. Currently, Mason is enjoying a lot of sold out dates in the UK.

Already in love and want to know more about them? They're from Glasgow, Scotland, if you haven't figured out from their lovely accents. They are, I believe, two grrls and one boy: Eilidh Rodgers, Ruari MacLean and Rachel Aggs.
