Go 96.3 presents Go Show, featuring Smallpools and The Orphan The Poet.
We first caught Smallpools in July 2013 and said, “The turnout to last night show was incredible, especially for a Wednesday. Fans packed in early (always a good sign when there is a line before the doors open), because there were a lot of cross-over fans who wanted to see Smallpools as well as San Cisco. From my understanding, this was Smallpools' very first national tour, so they were quite excited to play Minneapolis for the first time.”

The Jayhawks and their rootsy sound were definitely swimming against the tide when they emerged from a crowded Minnesota music scene in 1985. Over the course of two decades, 9 albums, countless memorable live shows and enough personal drama to fill a couple of Behind the Music episodes, this beloved band soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics, fans and peers in the process.

Glasgow’s The Fratellis is back in Minneapolis. You may recall that we went to Chicago to see the trio in November 2013: “After a five year absent from the music scene, The Fratellis are back with a brand new album We Need Medicine. The Scottish band is currently in the middle of a tiny, tiny U.S. tour in support of it, and basically selling out every venue they booked!”
Now, in 2018, the group is back in the U.S. to promote their new album In Your Own Sweet Time (Cooking Vinyl), and, of course, have been selling out a ton of dates.
Brighton’s duo Blood Red Shoes (Steven Ansell & Laura-Mary Carter) to open.

London-born, Los Angeles-based Bishop Briggs is headlining the Go Show at First Avenue on Friday.
Jordan Alamat, the DJ from radio station Go 96.3 will be hosting the event.
This isn’t Briggs’ first Go Show, in fact, she headlined the radio station’s show last year, in April 2017, which we wrote, “Born with the name of Sarah McLaughlin, it’s not surprising that London transplanted LA singer-songwriter goes by the stage name Bishop Briggs and the crush of the crowd could hardly wait for her hour-long headlining set, in support of her self-titled debut EP (on Island Records). The pony-tailed artist, in black skirt and oversized Members Only-style zippered jacket hardly stood still for the entire hour, bouncing about from side to side, constantly engaging the crowd to jump along with her.”
Show up early to check out Matt Maeson, who recently released his EP The Hearse on Neon Gold / Atlantic Records. Fans of Jeff Buckley’s hypnotic voice should take note.

"Karaoke" is the latest single from Smallpools. The band recently wrapped up their headlining tour (appearing in Minneapolis in October 2014).
The band kept a tour diary and they recently made it public by publishing it on Bandsintown.com.
Here's an excerpt:
Our band formed in LA, therefore, headlining the Fonda was a pretty big deal for us. It was exciting to share that experience with everyone in attendance and with all of our friends. It was also super special to have our No. 1 homies, Captain Cuts, in the building to help us surprise Sean onstage with an impromptu Katy Perry inspired “Birthday” celebration. Chipotle was also there to sponsor the night and made sure that no concert-goer went home hungry, thanks Chipotle!

Ohio band, Walk The Moon, is currently on tour promoting their latest album,
simply titled Walk The Moon.
Accompanying them onstage were bands Smallpools and The Mowgli's.
SMALLPOOLS
Indie pop band, Smallpools, hasn't been around very long, forming earlier this year, but they are already making big waves. The band opened with one of their singles, Mason Jar, before going on to play other songs off their latest EP such as Not Story Time and Over and Over.
Then, lead singer, Sean Scanlon announced that the band will be working on recording a new album after touring. They followed with two brand new songs, American Love and You've Got The Music In You. The band ended with their current hit, Dreaming, which was, without doubt, the highlight of the show. I have a feeling
we'll be seeing a lot more of Smallpools in the near future.
THE MOWGLI'S
Next up were The Mowgli's, an indie rock/folk band from southern California. Going into the show, I had no idea what to expect. Simply put, I was blown away. From their first song, Waiting For The Dawn, to Hi, Hey There, Hello the entire band brought unusual amount of positive energy, the kind of energy that would make someone like myself yearn to get on stage to dance beside them.
Katie of The Mowgli's
Dave Appelbaum, keyboardist and vocalist, was invited out of his corner of the stage to play guitar for the song Carry Your Will, which gave everyone just enough time to catch their breath. The atmosphere had changed, but not for long as the band finished the night off with songs The Great Divide followed by crowd-favorite San Francisco.
The Mowgli's are “the kind of band you see live and it makes you want to go and listen to all their music.” I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any nearby shows in the future.
Walk The Moon: “dance-rock” group from Ohio that most of the audience, sporting painted faces and official t-shirts, had been eagerly anticipating to take the stage. I had seen Walk The Moon earlier this year on my trip to Bonnaroo, and, although vastly different audience and venue sizes, I was not disappointed a second time around. The sounds of girls screaming quickly faded when the band began to play their first song of the night, Next In Line.
After playing a few more from their self-titled debut, Walk The Moon immediately followed with a first-time performance of the song Sidekick, and later introduced the audience to Boyfriend. For the song I Can Lift A Car, everyone in the crowd was asked to raise their arms and “push” into the sky, though instructions were likely unnecessary as so many already knew what to do. After exhausting much of their arsenal, the band went on to play their well-known single Anna Sun.
The vocals were drowned out during the chorus (“Oh Anna Sun!”) by the audience. For the encore, lead singer, Nicholas Petricca, busted out a keytar to play Jenny, another favorite amongst fans. A brand new album is set to begin recording upon completion of the tour, which is taking place today, October 31st at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin.

Next door, on the same name Tuesday (10/29), at the mainroom at First Avenue is Smallpools and Walk the moon and Twenty One Pilots.
Smallpools is an up-and-coming indie pop band, forming in early 2013. Based out of Los Angeles, the group consists of four members: Sean Scanlon (vocals), Mike Kamerman (guitar), Beau Kuther (drums), and Joe Intile (bass). Their first single "Dreaming" was released online in May of 2013, and has already been featured in the FIFA 14 soundtrack, as well as the show The Vampire Diaries. The debut self-entitled EP, under RCA Records, was released on July 16, 2013.
Smallpools recently went semi-viral on the internet when the group decided to "commandeer" a self-playing piano in the lobby of a movie theater. There they played an acoustic version of their hit single "Dreaming" which attracted a small crowd, including security. They were granted permission to finish, and, upon doing so, were peacefully escorted out. A bystander commented that they were "inspired" by the performance.

Sure, San Cisco's been coming to Minneapolis for the one hundred times, but that doesn't mean we're tired of them! In fact, it should be fun to see them again as they stop by the Triple Rock Social Club with Smallpools tomorrow! . …
Remember how it was Chaos Chaos' first ever live show opening for San Cisco? Well, San Cisco is at it again, this time asking Los Angeles' four-piece Smallpools as their support act. . …
We've covered San Cisco live five times (three in Minneapolis, one in Los Angeles, and one in Sydney). Yes, we love them, so it's nice to catch them again last night at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis.
SMALLPOOLS
Opening up for all the U.S. dates so far is Smallpools, a band based out of Los Angeles (although their guitarist Mike Kamerman said that he's from New Jersey, singer Sean Scanlon is from New York, and everyone else was from Oregon?)
The turnout to last night show was incredible, especially for a Wednesday. Fans packed in early (always a good sign when there is a line before the doors open), because there were a lot of cross-over fans who wanted to see Smallpools as well as San Cisco.
From my understanding, this was Smallpools' very first national tour, so they were quite excited to play Minneapolis for the first time. They seem like a really new band, playing songs from their Have a Great Summer EP (including "Over and Over" and the set closer "Dreaming").
Highlight of their set is a cover of the New Radicals' "You Get What You Give", which may, or may not, give you an indication of their happy-fun-'kick your asses'-summer-sound.
Before San Cisco came on stage, someone had this bright idea of giving balloons to the audience. At first, I thought it was part of the show, but as singer Jordi Davieson's reaction to these "dangerous" balloons, I realized the band had no part in the whole balloon-thing.
This was my fourth time seeing San Cisco, so I was expecting the usual set ("Golden Revolver" being fairly in early with "Awkward" saving their best for last), but I was pleasantly surprised that they mixed up the setlist on this "Beach" tour.
Instead, it would seem that this playlist would showcase songs taken from their debut self-titled album, which came out a few weeks ago on RCA Records.
Jordi Davieson
Of course, the transition was easy for me, having already heard many of these songs and demos from their previous live appearance and having been following their musical career since 2011.
Remember when I told you that I think "Golden Revolver" is perhaps their best song? It would seem that other fans would agree with me, having heard, for the first time, people singing back the lyrics ("and you're not even remotely kind!"). It was nice to hear that other people love this song as well.
As for the encore (yes, there was one this time), San Cisco came back to do a Daft Punk cover of "Get Lucky" and another song from the self-titled album called "No Friends".
Anyway, it's always a pleasure to see San Cisco whenever they are in town. Hope to see them back here sooner than later.
San Cisco at the Triple Rock Social Club, Minneapolis (07/31/13)
No encores were played, but that's just as well, because, let's be honest, there's no way they can top "Awkward". It's better to end on a high note. Still, that didn't stop the fans from screaming out "One more song!" chants. …
Sure, San Cisco's been coming to Minneapolis for the one hundred times, but that doesn't mean we're tired of them! In fact, it should be fun to see them again as they stop by the Triple Rock Social Club with Smallpools tomorrow!
And if you were wondering, yes, their self-titled debut album is finally available in the U.S. via RCA Records!

Leading up to their September 10th release for The Death of the Self-Preservation Society on Last Chance Records (their first album since 2010's Sweet Saint Me thanks to their indiegogo crowd-funding campaign), Columbus' Two Cow Garage will hit the road on their U.S. tour.
The band's front man Micah Schnabel talk about recording of the new album: "We've recorded there a few times and we have just fallen in love with it. We sleep in the old farm house and wake up every morning to go out and record all day and night. The studio is actually up in what would be the hayloft and it overlooks the farm. It's just a great place to be locked away and not have the distractions of every day life."

Raw Geronimo, otherwise known as Laena Geronimo, is coming out with a debut LP called Dream Fever, next month, July 30th on Neurotic Yell Records.
The Romanian singer/songwriter is described as sounding like Bow Wow Wow and Roxy Music.
Maybe you can tell me when you can catch her live this Saturday at Echo Park in Los Angeles with Jail Weddings and The Lexingtons.
