Florida’s Sales (Lauren Morgan and Jordan Shih) sold out the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on Wednesday, September 5th.

California’s Hana Vu opened the show. The 18-year-old is joined on stage by guitarist Christian Wright, bassist Sebastian Jones, and drummer Jair Hernandez.

After spending 30 hours driving in a car, Hana Vu was happy and relieved to finally play for us. Although Vu had written and recorded three albums (about 30 songs) since 2014, this was the first time the group went out on a national tour, with the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis a first stop for the band. Vu mentioned early in their set, “This is our first time not in California. The first time ever.”

Before ending their brief set with “Landscapes”, Vu mentioned that she tried to request “one of Chris’ songs” on the radio, but they didn’t play it.

The band is very young, but given the fact that they were well-rehearsed and in good company with Tegan & Sara and Soccer Mommy, expect a bright future for Hana Vu.

Sales closed out the show. For live shows, the duo is joined by their touring drummer, Malcolm Martin.

I have criticized the band for having a common name, but it should not be a reflection on Sales’ strong growing fanbase. It’s really amazing that with no press relations and no record label, the duo still managed to sell out many of their shows on this tour. This is thanks to word-of-mouth, heartfelt songs, and the BBC.

Singer Lauren Morgan was quite pleased at the turnout, “We’ve been here before, but this is the first time we sold this place out!”

Sales’ Forever & Ever album is out now. It was written, recorded, mixed and mastered in their bedroom in Orlando, Florida. Mixed and mastered by their touring audio engineer, Michael Thomas Regina.

Car Seat Headrest (aka Will Toledo) will be headlining First Avenue on September 5th, in support of their “re-recorded re-imagined” album Twin Fantasy (Matador Records).

We first wrote about them in July 2016, but finally caught them live at Rock the Garden 2017. They had massive hype, a ton of fans came out early and seized the front barriers to help Will sing his songs: “Despite the lack of songs (even though they have recorded 13 albums), the fans loved them. Every time you look at the crowd, you can see them mouthing and singing along to Will Toledo’s heartfelt, emotional, depressing songs. Their best song ‘Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales’ had everybody in front singing.”

Seattle’s Naked Giants to open. The band’s debut album Sluff came out on New West Records. From what I’ve read, the trio may actually appear as additional band members to Car Seat Headrest.

Grammy nominated legend John Hiatt is back on tour in support of his forthcoming album The Eclipse Sessions, coming out October 12th, 2018 via New West Records. The new album is the first in four years and was produced by Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton) and features Hiatt’s longtime drummer Kenneth Blevins and bassist Patrick O’Hearn, as well as Kevin’s son, Yates.

Florida’s hard-to-Google band Sales is touring in support of their new release, Forever & Ever. The band confessed that they have no PR, no record label, self-managed... but thanks to their catchy music and championed by the Hype Machine and BBC 6, the duo (Lauren Morgan and Jordan Shih) managed to sell out their 7th Street Entry show.

Sales was previously in town in October 2016 with local support from Strange Relations.

We previously caught Ben Rector in July 2016 already noted about this upcoming October show: “Singer - songwriter Ben Rector stopped in town last week for a brief promotional appearance, in front of an overcrowded dockside audience braving a sweltering triple-digit heat index for a generous seven-song, forty-five minute set, that had many already making plans for his full show, in late October.”

Rector’s new album Brand New is out now.

Although the venue did not list the opener - we are told it is heartthrob Jacob Whitesides. He will be opening up for this show. We previously caught him earlier in June 2016 and had never seen so many cellphones up in the air to record Whiteside as he came on stage.... Jacob’s new single ‘Lovesick’ is out now.

Speaking of “Brand New”, Brand New’s last-ever Minnesota show will be taking place at the The Roy Wilkins Auditorium on this October 23rd. The band confirmed that they are breaking up in 2018 or earlier, and this is their very last tour.

The Front Bottoms and Modern Baseball will join in on the fun. We’ve seen both openers, with The Front Bottoms in November 2015, which we described as “The Front Bottoms is nothing more than four guys from New Jersey who are able to write songs about everyday life and make them catchy” and Modern Baseball in June 2016 and wrote they were “full of angst and emotion.”

Boston progressive-folk duo Tall Heights (singer/guitarist Tim Harrington and singer/cellist Paul Wright) will be headlining the Turf Club in St Paul this Sunday, October 23rd. They are promoting their new album Neptune, which came out on August 19, 2016 via Sony Music Masterworks.

Some key things to note about the duo: they recently played Conan O’Brien’s show (on September 26th), their album Spirit Cold surpassed 8 million streams on Spotify (with more than 1 million unique Spotify listeners)... and James Franco and Demi Lovato are among their biggest fans!

We previously mentioned they were played the Aster Café in 2015.
