"Rush" is the true story of the rivalry between two of the 1970's Formula 1 racing stars. The loose, handsome and charismatic James Hunt played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor/Avengers) and the serious and disciplined Niki Lauda played by Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Bastards).
Directed by Ron Howard and written by Peter Morgan, they have collaborated again and bring the Hay Day of Formula 1 to the big screen and this one of the greatest rivalries the sport has ever witnessed.
James Hunt was the wild Englishman who's womanizing, heavy drinking with long hair and rugged looks one imagines that an international race car driver should be with a devil may care attitude, and on the other hand there was Niki Lauda a very serious and determined Austrian, that kept his body and mind clear, early to bed, no late night parties and focused his clear mind on the cars that his life depended on.
Peter Morgan has brought the personal lives of these two men both on and off the track to a show the determination and passion the different characters had for the sport and in their private lives. Without taking away from the excitement of racing inches from the ground and traveling in excess of 160 mph. At the same time Ron Howards direction keeps you in the heart of it all, you feel the rumble of the engines the smell of the fuel, you get to see from inside the helmets and from a level that only these amazing men who are willing to risk their lives, to see who's car is the fastest and who can control it see.
I found the movie very engrossing it kept a good pace and it gave you a slightly intimate look at two of racing's legends without forgoing the excitement of the cars.
Look for "Rush" to get theatrical release on September 20, 2013. Free download of "Formula 1" song by Hans Zimmer, courtesy of Universal Pictures.
