I’d never heard of Lady Lamb the Beekeeper when I was asked to cover her forthcoming show in Chicago, so I threw on her debut album Ripely Pine to see what the fuss was about. …
Who's ready to see an 11 piece band Typhoon from the beautiful state of Oregon? It's almost as if an entire orchestra combined with your basic indie rock band. They have a little bit of a Frightened Rabbit sound to them for those of you who need a larger to band to compare, try Arcade Fire. Lead singer Kyle Morton has a very distinct voice that should have everyone wanting to catch a performance.
Typhoon's fourth release White Lighter is one of 2013's top releases, and is truly a complete album. This orchestra size act adds so many layers into their songs with a great blend of all the instrumentation.

As I have previously mention, the Pixies are discovering a new life in touring and serving their existing aging fans. I don't know if they have a new album out, it's all very cryptic right now …
Last month, Pixies released a brand new music video overnight to accompany the song "Greens and Blues" from the band's EP-2, which came out January 3rd. You can watch the video on youtube.com.
The "Greens and Blues" video was written and directed by Josh Frank, who also wrote the book Fool The World, the Oral History of the Band Called Pixies. Frank explained why he chose that song to work on: "I chose ‘Greens and Blues’ specifically because it touched me and spoke to me, from the moment I first heard it. It had that power and emotion I remember from when I heard Bossanova for the first time in high school, that immediate connection, that very personal moment with a band you love where the song feels like it is speaking just to you. ‘Greens and Blues’ also feels important, iconic, and timeless like all great Pixies songs."
Pixies are currently on a world tour:

Loftus is the child of Red Red Meat , the 90s Sub Pop band. They have a self-titled album coming out in July 9th, 2013, although from what I've read the record was actually recording during RRM's summer tour in August to September 1996.
The finished record was never released, so they've gone back and remastered the record for vinyl by Roger Siebel and Tim Rutili at SAE Mastering, giving these songs new life.
You can pre-order the record at Jealous Butcher Records, the record is on clear vinyl and limited to 250 each with hand crafted packaging.
Los Angeles' Bad Things just recently signed with Warner Bros. Records. You may have heard of this because their lead guitarist is snowboarder/skateboard Shaun White.

Nashville's Chance Martin just released "Blue Monday" song (not that New Order song), the first ever single from his 1981 private press In Search (which is finally being release this July 16th on Paradise of Bachelors.

In Search will be available as a collector's item with "dozens of outrageous photos and a 13,000 word oral history chapbook recounting Chance's adventures with all the legends" on 150g virgin vinyl, in a deluxe.
As we march closer to America's Independence Day (July 4th), I will be posting some "Red, White, and Blue" articles. If your band has one of those colors, please send me a note. I will need biography, news, tour dates, etc., when you send in your submission. Please follow the guidelines.
Toyota is sponsoring its fifth year at CMJ with Toyota's Free Yr Radio! They will be broadcasting interviews and live performances from such bands as Atlas Sound, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Portugal, The Man.…
Portugal. The Man recently shared this Two Inch Punch's remix of "Purple Yellow Red & Blue" (available on Soundcloud.)
Hear the song:
Portugal. The Man's frontman John Gourley recall working on his seventh album, Evil Friends , as a collaboration with Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton). According to Gourley, "I walked into his [Danger Mouse] place, and it wasn't going to happen. He was like, 'Hey, man, just so you know, I don't really want to record a rock band.' And I was a little relieved. We'd done this by ourselves before, and we knew we could do it by ourselves again."
Finally, after a year, Portugal. The Man finished the recording and released it two weeks ago (June 4th) on Atlantic Records. The band also started their tour in support of the album two days ago… They arrive in Minneapolis this Saturday, June 22nd, the same date that W♥M team will also covering Snowden at Sound Gallery and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin at 7th Street.

I actually had no idea Nico Vega was on the bill, but it was a pleasant surprise because I actually like these guys. This is my third time seeing them. Yes, Aja is shoeless on stage, and based on previous shows - this one was the best. .…
You know I love Nico Vega, the band is always fun to see live, although I'm sad to see Minneapolis isn't part of their itinerary. This new tour is with Crash Kings. but I saw a movie called Everything Is Illuminated, that stars the singer from Gogol. I think this was before he was more known for being in this band. I guess, like Flea in Suburbia? .…
Ahead of the July 23rd release of Gogol Bordello's hotly anticipated sixth album, Pura Vida Conspiracy, the gypsy-punk collective is offering a glimpse at the project's creation. In this exclusive video chronicle of the group's studio time at the Sonic Ranch in Texas, frontman Eugene Hütz shares the album's overall message: "Borders are scars on the face of the planet."

Do you remember the Yearling album from 2011 by The Parson Red Heads? The album is out of print, but it got re-issued on a deluxe edition last Tuesday (01/22) via Second Motion Records.
What's new in the new version? It includes all the original tracks, plus six tracks from the Murmerations EP, so it's a nice deal if you haven't already own the album.
The band is currently on tour with He's My Brother She's My Sister (we like them) and Rayland Baxter:
01/24 Portland, OR - Mississippi Studios
01/25 Bellingham, WA - Green Frog
01/26 Vancouver, BC - The Waldorf
01/27 Seattle, WA - Sunset Tavern
Blood Red Shoes' EP, Water, is out now via V2 / Cooperative Music.
The highlight from the EP is a track called "Red River", which you can watch on YouTube.
If you were wondering about the video, it was shot during their recent trip to Russia: "It was our first time over and was kind of insane, for many reasons. From the minute we landed and had a 4 hour fight with customs to get our gear into the country, to the last night when we made a 4am pilgrimage to Red Square, it was one hell of an experience. A crazy and beautiful country with crazy and beautiful people, one of the most full on crowds we've ever had on our first trip to a country."
U.S. fans should not that their first two albums, Box of Secrets and Fire Like This is now available in the States.
The new Redwood Plan record called Green Light Go is coming out February 12th.
Critics seems to really love the frontwoman, Lesli Wood, often calling her performances as "energetic" and "kick ass."
They're heading out on tour in support of the album:
02.15.13 - Seattle, WA @ Neumos
02.27.13 - Salt Lake City, UT @ Shred Shed
02.28.13 - Denver, CO @ Lion's Lair
03.02.13 - Wichita, KS @ Kirby's
03.03.13 - Chicago, IL @ Empty Bottle
Absolutely no information was sent for this artist, White Blush. When you send in music submissions, please include as much information as possible.
All I know is that White Blush is the stagename for India Pale Ale beer-drinker Carol Rhyu from Los Angeles (I am assuming this considering that most artists aren't from Louisiana.)
The credits lists "All songs written, performed, and produced by Carol Rhyu" on her self-titled EP, so cover lovers should weep that it's not Dolly Parton's "Jolene." You can stream the EP at whiteblush.bandcamp.com.
White Blush will be playing a free show in LA at The Bootleg Bar on Monday, February 18th at 8:00pm.
Watching The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight (01/24)? Look for Blue Sky Riders to appear as musical guests.
Blue Sky Riders are a country superteam of Kenny Loggins, Georgia Middleman, and Gary Burr, and their album, Finally Home, is coming out next week, January 29.
Expect the band to do more tour dates/or announcements soon, all I have officially is listed below:
02/01/13 Nashville, TN Grand Ole Opry House
02/02/13 Nashville, TN 3rd & Lindsley
04/28/13 Indio, CA Empire Polo Field
Heard of the Kooks? The Wombats? Well there is another band called the Postelles from NYC that is in that same class.
Missed these guys the year I went to Bonnaroo and really exited to see them in New Orleans. They have a new single out called "Running Red Lights"!
The single is a preview of what's to come for their forthcoming sophomore album.
Check it out, and catch them on tour with Mayday Parade and The Maine.

White Lines Grey Matter is a semi-new trio (Chris Depoian, Nathanael Raway, and Joey Mayer) from Minneapolis, having formed about four years ago.
Their EP is called Water and Sand, released in March, and you can hear/buy it at Bandcamp.
When asked what they sound like, they described their music as blending "the raw passion of Muse and the Silversun Pickups with the beautifully complex harmonies of Radiohead and Coldplay."
Their next show is at Segue Cafe with Jake Plaunt on Saturday, October 27th. There's also November 16 at the Fine Line Café, but I could not find listing on the venue's website. The date is for a CD release party for Ray Smart. Also on the bill is The Small Cities and Postina.
The legendary jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter has returned to Blue Note Records. The Blue Note release of Without A Net will be Shorter's first album on the iconic label in 43 years! Look for the new album on February 5, 2013.
"Wayne Shorter is one of the greatest musicians and composers of our time," said Don Was, President of Blue Note Records. "… Although welcoming him back to Blue Note Records after 43 years is a romantic notion, Wayne's enduring appeal is rooted in his steadfast refusal to trade in such nostalgia. In fact, it is Mr. Shorter's determination to constantly move forward that makes his new album, Without A Net, such an essential listening experience."
At age 80, I didn't expect to see him on tour… yet, he's listed to play Salle Pleyel in Paris, France on November 3rd, 2012.
Portland's Red Fang will be going on a national tour in support of their album, Murder The Mountains. The band is known for their music videos, which they noted: "Working with Whitey [McConnaughy] again was great, because we knew the end result would be amazing - he doesn't half-ass. But it was also a little scary, because Whitey would do whatever it took to get the ultimate shot, even if it meant killing us."
Red Fang is also known for their lively shows, so check them out on tour, which is kicking off tomorrow:

The Calm Blue Sea formed in 2007 in Austin, Texas. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2008, but got re-issued last year. This year, their sophomore album, Arrivals & Departures, will be, er, arriving in October 9th, via Modern Outsider Records.
I got the impression that The Calm Blue Sea is an instrumental rock band, having scored a 1924 Fritz Lang film called Siegfried, and they are often grouped in with Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
If you're in Austin, check them out on these dates:
August 17, 2012 - Hotel Vegas, Austin, TX
August 24, 2012 - Emo’s, Austin, TX
I've previously mentioned that I liked how Red Bull invests back into the music community. There are couple of new items that I thought I'd mention.
The first is that Red Bull is sponsoring their stage at Lollapaloozer (the next one is coming up on Sunday 8/7/2011), featuring Midnight Express, Kyle Lucas & Captain Midnight, Daedelus, The Cool Kids, 12th Planet, Jackmaster, Busy P, Modeselektor, and KiD CuDi. Wish I was there, but unfortunately tickets to this music festival is out of my concert budget. If you're stuck in the same boat like me, you can stream certain shows at redbullmusicacademy.com.
The second is that Red Bull Records joins Music Xray, looking to sign indie bands. The service is free, you go to musicxray.com and upload your music. The biography reads: "Red Bull Records is a U.S. independent record label located in Culver City, California. It was started by the energy drink company Red Bull to break into the branded record label business and fill a void in the market."
This new band, White Wives, features the two Chris from Anti-Flag (Chris #2 and Chris Head). I did sample a bit of their album, Happeners (released June 28th via Adeline Records). Right away, I can tell you that they've gone more indie-rock. If you were hoping for a more or less political punk sound because of their Anti-Flag involvement, then you may be in for a disappointment.
Personally, I really enjoyed what I heard on Happeners. I can see the band doing well with sing-along choruses from "Hungry Ghosts" and their hardest song, "Hallelujah, I'm Mourning".
"Indian Summer, Indian Summer" is the lead track, and you can hear it on soundcloud. I'm glad to see that the single version does not feature this (rather long) 34 seconds intro which was taken from The Atomic Bomb Movie (Ivy Mike talking about the first H Bomb test).
White Wives are going on tour:
08/16 Beat Kitchen - Chicago, IL
08/17 Magic Stick Lounge - Detroit, MI
08/18 Monster House - Columbus, OH
08/19 Mohawk Place - Buffalo, NY
08/20 Redwood Art Space - Wilkes Barre, PA
08/21 TBA - Philadelphia, PA
10/01 Metro - Chicago, IL w/ AWOLnation
Blue October's sixth studio album, Any Man in America, is coming out August 16th via Up/Down Records via MRI. You can preview a bit of the album through their new single, "The Chills", at youtube.
Shot in HD, the video takes place at three different locations in Texas (Triple Crown in San Marcos, singer/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld's house, and the beach in Galveston). The concept of the video is about relationships and life in general, but it just looks like fun live concert footage to me.
They look pretty amazing live from the video, and, yes, they are on tour:
