RYAN STAR
rstar.net
Ryan Star became famous in 2006 when he appeared as a contestant on CBS' "Rock Star: Supernova" reality show. Then his song "Brand New Day" (which sounds like a U2 song!) became the theme song to one of my favorite television show Lie to Me.
Star is back with a new album called A N G E L S + A N I M A L S, set for January 13th, 2014.
The story behind A N G E L S + A N I M A L S was that following recording his last EP Animals, which came out August 5, 2013, Star asked himself, "What’s the point?"
His upcoming album is as honest as he is going to get, because he's not confined by a major record label. Star confessed, "I wanted to give people a raw, emotional feeling. That’s what this album had to do. I also had to do it by myself, independently and without a label. I got honest with myself. For the first time in many years, I’m referring to this as my art. This represents where I am now."
You can check out the new songs at his upcoming show at the Bowery:

Crushed Stars just released a new song called "Haters", taken from their upcoming album Farewell Young Lovers, due out January 21, 2014, on Simulacra Records.
CMJ (College Music Journal) described the track as "a fuzzy sleepwalking gem that'll bring to mind drops of dew on blades of grass and other similarly clichéd romantic moments, but it effortlessly avoids any sonic cliché."

I can’t write a happy love song.’ From beginning to end, ‘Hey Pretty Mamma’ is exactly how we are on any given night. We make drinks, we dance, and we sometimes stay up all night."

DYLAN STARRS
facebook.com/dylanstarrsmusic
Like many of us, singer/songwriter Dylan Starrs was shocked about the death of the 26 children and school teachers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting last year. After watching the news and in utter shocked at the death of this 6 year old girl, he wrote "Farewell to Emilie".
Starrs recounts, "I remember seeing a profile on this sweet blonde girl, Emilie Parker, and just being moved to tears. I later saw a press conference where her father was being interviewed/hounded by a mob of reporters... The man was in tears, but incredibly strong, and spoke of love and forgiveness almost immediately after his daughter, who had done nothing other than show up to school, was brutally murdered."
Starrs is in the middle of finishing up his debut solo full length album with producer Max Allyn, tentatively titled From the Swill to the Swell. In the meantime, Dylan will play a residency at Witzend in Los Angeles every Thursday night at 10pm in January 2014.
