Los Angeles' Deap Vally will be appearing at all music festivals known to mankind this year. Not kidding, the rock duo (guitarist/singer Lindsey Troy and drummer Julie Edwards) will be appearing at Bonnaroo, Splendour In The Grass, Lollapalooza, Reading, Leeds, just to name a few! This is pretty great for a band with only one EP called Get Deap!

I'm personally not a fan of big festivals; I prefer the more intimate settings of a dive bar. Not problems for people like me either: the band will be doing a number of small venues with The Whigs next month.

The loud punk-ish rock band Parquet Courts is currently on tour for their debut album, Light Up Gold, out now on What's Your Rupture? Records. The band has received a lot of praises from all the music places, including NME, Pitchfork, NPR and Spin.

Since the band is on tour, you can get a taste of their life on the road via Andy Capper's documentary "Light Up Gold Road Trip" on vice.com.

Yep, Brody and Jess survived the Great Escape Music Festival in Brighton. The festival came to an end on Saturday, May 18th.

While we wait for them to compose themselves in London, I thought I'd publish some of their photographs from the third NME Radar show for the Great Escape at the Haunt.

Deap Vally made a surprise appearance, having stepped in to replace Jagwar Ma on the original lineup for NME Radar's showcase. Apparently, the Australian band had to bow out due to sickness.

This Australian twelve-piece (yes, you have read that right), will be playing a few dates at the Great Escape Festival …

Brody and Jess are currently in Brighton, checking out some showcases at the Great Escape Music Festival. Last night (May 17th), they went to the NME Radar Showcase at the Haunt. Hot buzz band Palma Violets was added to the line-up the day before and we will have a separate, but more detailed, article for them at a later date.

In the meantime, Brody writes:

We caught Velociraptor from Brisbane, Jacco Gardner from Amsterdam, The Wytches, Temples, Merchandise from Tampa, and Palma Violets.

What a night! Velociraptor is the new version of the Hives from Aussieland. 12 people on stage. Completely mad! The drummer was standing on top of mountain playing drums then bounced around to a few songs. They started the set with their hit "Hey Suzanne" and kept the fast pace throughout the whole set.

Temples were surprising solid. They reminded me of Kasabian and Pink Floyd. Lead singer sported the old-school curly brown Afro 60's look and the other members looked like the Davies brothers from the Kinks. The only downfall to the set, is that they didn't play "We Were Children."

Merchandise, from Tampa, Florida, also rocked the house and started the moshing, crowd surfing, and questionable stage dancing.

Jacco Gardner was Great! Wytches were awful!

Loaded's latest issue (March 2013) featured Johnny Marr, but their February 2013 clearly shows Morrissey's head under a naked woman on its cover. As I have previously mentioned, this is a lad's mag.

Finally, not to be outdone, Q Magazine's March 2013 issue put Morrissey (circa 1986-era) photo with the captions "The Ten Greatest Gigs... Of All Time". Then on the lower corner, we also see a modern Johnny Marr answering questions "for cash". Is this a new thing? Do fans send in money to have their heroes answer their questions? And if that's true, why would you ask "What did Morrissey’s teenage bedroom smell like?" Trust me, no one wants to know.

Lana Del Rey canceled her Australian tour due to American backlash!

Band of the show is San Cisco, a band that we've both mentioned before. Their EP, Awkward was just released in America on February 7th, 2012, via Island City Records/MGM. The single is quite catchy with its boy-girl conversation-lyrics.

NME Awards 2012 nominations

The annual NME Awards is happening on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 (tickets to the event goes on sale Feb 3rd at 9am). Host for this year is Jack Whitehall (I think Jarvis Cocker hosted last year, or was it the year before?). Bands confirmed to play are: Kasabian, The Vaccines, and Florence + The Machine (with The Horrors).

It should be a good night, I like all those bands.

So, let's start taking some bets on the nominees (hint: I would put some money on Arctic Monkeys, they have won numerous NME awards from 2006-2008).

Matt Helders, Arctic Monkeys, adds:

We're up for all the big ones - we're very happy. We had a lot of fun making 'Suck It And See' and it's great to be up for Best Live Band. That's all we do - record or play live - so it's good to be recognised!

Yeah, the award might as well be theirs.
