Scattered Trees and The Wildfire stopped by The Turf Club, in St Paul, last night, May 15th. This event was sponsored by Thrifty Hipster, a website that is devoted to helping hipsters find cheap shows and hangouts.
Starting off the night was The Wildfire from Michigan, a band that's incredibly hard to find online (there are several bands called Wildfire). I think they should promote their alternate name, Nathan Kalish and the Wildfire, more agressively instead. I didn't know any of their songs, but the band has a standard alt-rock sound and plenty of girl fans.
After some vocal monitor issues, Scattered Trees played a full song for the soundcheck, and with that, they were ready to go.
They did, of course, "Four Straight Days", lots of broken hearts. My favorite set was towards the end where they did the song "I Swear to God". The song was dedicated as something about "lies parents tells their kids" - and if you listen to the song, it's deeply personal with questions such as, "Where are you Jesus? Where are you?".
They ended their set with "Bury The Floors", fitting as they harmonize to "the stars, the stars are shining on your face."
Scattered Trees' album Sympathy is out on digital now, via Roll Call Records, look for a physical release on August 8th. They are currently doing a mini-tour with Asobi Seksu and Wildfire.
