Minneapolis based four-piece Little Fevers will be playing at Turf Club, in support of their debut album Field Trip (which Yahoo! Music recently the album). Matt Latterell to open. .…
Little Fevers played to a packed house on Saturday night at Amsterdam Bar & Hall in Saint Paul. They were the first of three local bands to take the stage and wowed the audience.
Little Fevers is a twee pop band from right here in the Twin Cities. Their debut album, Field Trip was just recently released. It was recorded with Matt Boynton (Beirut, MGMT) and mastered by David Gardner (Black Lips). After seeing these guys live, it makes sense why such big names are backing this band.
Singer Lucy Michell has one of the most amazing voices I have heard in quite some time. It's beautiful and calm but powerful at the same time. You can hear all types of influences when Lucy starts singing. There are times when it sounds like Bob Dylan in female form and then other times when it sounds like something you could heard on the radio.
The sound of the band as a whole is polished and perfect. It's very poppy but at times, because of Lucy's voice, it can sound almost alt-country. It's very sweet music, again helped by Lucy's vocals, but still deep and thoughtful. Each song was upbeat and dreamy but not the type of dreamy that puts you to sleep, more the dreamy that makes you want to bob your head and keep listening.
Communist Daughter was the headliner of the night. These guys are a force to be reckoned with in the local music scene. The band is fronted by John Solomon, formerly of local band Friends Like These. These guys have a much more up front indie-pop-rock sound than the sound of Little Fevers. That being said, these guys still rocked the show and played a great set.
Their music has become a staple in the indie rock scene in the Twin Cities. They've been played on the Current radio station multiple times and their shows are always very well attended. Last night was no different and it was a perfect chance to break my Communist Daughter virginity.
tiny deaths
tiny deaths played in between Little Fevers and Communist Daughters. tiny deaths is a band that is quickly gaining the popularity they deserve in the cities. Their music is indie but with more layers than the average indie pop rock band due to the amount of vocal looping they use. The vocals can be haunting at times but because of the powerful drum beats and the beautiful guitar sound, they band itself doesn't have a haunting sound.
Tiny Deaths are releasing their first new single, Ever, in over a year on Monday, December 7th. The crowd last night got a sneak peak of this single and let me tell you, you will want to jump on this. The song was catchy and got the crowd, as well as me, excited. These guys are definitely going to be a breakout group of the Twin Cities soon!
The crowd was nothing short of attentive throughout the show. Usually I find this super boring but last night, it was perfect. Last night was a perfect chance to stand back and take in the local music scene of the Twin Cities. We really do have some of the best local music around.

COMMUNIST DAUGHTER
at Amsterdam Bar & Hall
Saturday, 11/21/2015, 8pm ($10) amsterdambarandhall.com
Communist Daughter is headlining the Amsterdam Bar & Hall next Saturday, November 21st. Although recently only Johnny & Molly were on a tour, they'll be joined by the full band at this come town gig.
Opening up will be Tiny Deaths, who we previously saw in September 2014 and noted that they were a duo (singer/keyboardist Claire de Lune and producer/guitarist Grant Cutler). We're pretty sure her name is in reference to the French word for "clair de lune" which means moonlight.
The other tiny/little opener is Twee pop band Little Fevers... playing in support their debut LP Field Trip, available now.
The record was recorded with Matt Boynton (Beirut, MGMT) and mastered by David Gardner (Black Lips). Three songs on the record were specially recorded by engineer Neil Weir at the historic Old Blackberry Way in Minneapolis where Twin Tone Records was born (The Replacements).
Little Fevers went on their national tour last October and finally back home with this local show. Their two December dates will be in Iowa, at Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines (December 4) and Bluestem Ames in Ames (December 5).
Communist Daughter tour dates:
Nov 20 Ed's No Name Winona, MN
Nov 21 Amsterdam Bar and Hall Saint Paul, MN
Dec 05 Johnny & Molly @ Beaner's Duluth, MN

You know we like The Dandy Warhols... and they love "Minnesoter." Minneapolis is pretty much the only city where they will automatically play "Minnesoter", which are often not written on their standard setlist.
We've been going to Dandy shows since October 2000, this is one of the best live bands as they've demonstrated with their special live album, Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia Live At The Wonder, which came out last year on The End Records.
Opening up for the Fine Line will be Portland's The Shivas.
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards will be joining back on the tour in December:

Here are some others shows taking place on November 21st in the Minneapolis area:
The critically revered UK troubadour James Bay is on a sold-out USA tour, stopping by State Theatre (moved from the Varsity Theater), in support of his LP debut Chaos and the Calm (Republic Records). The record is already certified Gold in Australia & Switzerland, Platinum in the UK... and after 1 million albums sold worldwide, critics are already calling the debut album one of the "Biggest Album Released This Year". Frances to open. (8pm/$26.50)
The National's Matt Berninger and Ramona Falls' Brent Knopf have joined forces as EL VY. They are touring in support of their debut album Return to the Moon, stopping by First Avenue on November 21st. 4AD's Søren Juul to open. (8pm/$25)
World-renowned DJ and producer Tokimonsta will be at 7th Street Entry with Leikeli47 (pronounced "Leh-Kay-Lee 47"). (8pm/$20)
American country music singer and songwriter Tyler Farr to headline Mill City Nights.
(8pm/$30)
BdotCroc (aka Brynne Crockett) & DJ Keezy is celebrating their album release party at Triple Rock Social Club. They are joined by Why Khaliq, Lexii Alijai and Mac Diezel.

The King Khan & BBQ Show is back in the area at Turf Club this Saturday. I find their whole black face/black "monkey" body jungle art direction kind of offensive. Am I misreading their promo photos? I'm surprise no one else voiced this opinion. Guests Milk Lines and Joust to open.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
at First Avenue

American band with English spelling The Neighbourhood is headlining this all-ages show at First Avenue. You may know the band for that hit song "Sweater Weather". The band's sophomore album Wiped Out! is coming out this October 30th, via Columbia/The Revolve Group.
Show up early to check out Bad Suns, a band we previously saw with the 1975 in May 2014. We wrote, "The quartet’s anthemic sound on songs like ‘Cardiac Arrest’ and EP closer, ’20 Years’ seemed to connect with the younger audience..."
Also on the bill is Hunny (not to be confused with Christian band Honey or the stuff that Winnie-the-Pooh likes to eat). This southern California six-piece (front man/lead guitarist Jason Yarger, guitarist Jake Goldstein, bassist Gregory Horne, third guitarist Jacob Munk, keyboardist Kevin Grimmett and drummer Joey Anderson)made a name for themselves with their debut single "Cry For Me" (more than 800k plays on Hype Machine's "Most Popular Tracks").
Check out "Parking Lot" from their debut EP Pain/Ache/Loving:
NOTE: Since this is an all-ages show, doors open at 5:30pm, which probably means first band on at 6pm! The only good thing about an early show is that you get to go home by 10pm!

FLUX PAVILION
at Skyway Theatre
Friday, 10/16/2015, 8pm ($25) skywaytheater.com
Flux Pavilion, aka Joshua Steele, is an English DJ that will be taking over the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis on Friday, October 16th.
Flux Pavilion has influences that range from David Bowie to The Chemical Brothers to Rusko. Steele was once quoted as saying: "I never went to clubs because I didn't feel accepted into that scene; it felt too showy, too well-groomed. Then I saw Rusko play at Fabric and it changed my perception of everything. He was jumping around wearing a big cardboard hat shaped like a bird playing the most outrageous music I had ever heard. I loved it."
I have heard nothing but great things about his live show. This current tour is as promotion for his newest album Tesla which came out September 15th of this year. Not only is this his newest album, it's also his debut album. That being said, Flux Pavilion is not new to the scene. This guy has been releasing singles and EPs since 2008.
Make sure you check out his set on Friday night. He will be playing along with Loudpvck, Diskord, and many many more. Four stages more to be exact.
