Alan Palomo is basically Neon Indian, a band that all the kids love (Pitchfork, Spin, etc). If you were wondering, Neon Indian is described as one of the pioneer of "Chillwave". Basically experimental stuff, with heavy use of weird effects, looping, and sampling.

When he's not doing late-night infomercial for the PAL198X mini-synth, he records albums. His fourth, Era Extraña, will be coming out on September 13th. Massive fans should want to get their hands on the Deluxe Edition.

Music Festivals: September and October 2011

Here are some music festivals that is coming up in September and October, in honor of The Festival Ladies' recent Splendour in the Grass misadventures.

We do sometime get invites, but unfortunately many of these events are well out of my traveling budget - but feel free to keep sending them to me.

BREAKING NEWS: We previously mentioned Afro-Punk Festival (starting tomorrow), but according to news.weheartmusic.com, the show is canceled due to Hurricane Irene:

The City of New York has rescinded all event permits for Saturday, August 27th and Sunday, August 28th because of the impending Hurricane Irene. The Afro-punk festival has been barred from holding any public assembly in Commodore Barry Park this weekend. Afro-punk staff have been meeting with officials and sponsors to try and avoid cancellation but have had to cancel this weekend’s festival due to safety concerns. The event organizers are regrouping to plan the next steps and will keep the public updated.

From the looks of things, this is a camping music festival ... which is actually perfect for relaxing on a Labor Day weekend. There is a one-time $33 fee for overnight parking for campers, RVs, and Tent, but it's a lot cheaper than renting a hotel in the area.

The major headliners are pretty popular (George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Michael Franti and Spearhead & The Neville Brothers), but it shouldn't be an awful time because there is a capacity of only 5,000 guests. I've been to massive festivals, trust me, it's better to attend a smaller-sized one.

I normally don't write about hip-hop, but it's really hard to ignore lady rapper Kreayshawn. I first heard about her from The Daily, the description I took away from reading the article was that she's the "anti-Rebecca Black" and how she wasn't very "Disney".

She drinks and she smokes and she doesn't give a f___. She's also into tumblr, twitter, fashion (but hell to the no to Gucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, or Prada), and eye-gouging animated gifs.

With over nine million youtube views for her break out hit song, "Gucci Gucci", it's easy to see why Columbia Records signed her up quickly.



GUCCI MANE & WAKA FLOCKA FLAME

Two of Atlanta's biggest street rappers, Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame, have teamed up for their first collaborative album, 1017 Brick Squad Presents: Gucci Mane & Waka Flocka Flame - Ferrari Boyz, out next week, August 9th, 2011. Possibly the longest name for an album I've seen in a long time.

I did take a look at their pre-order at Warner Brothers Records, and you can get the vanilla CD or one with the T-Shirt. I would like to see better bundles - how about a Ferrari Boyz gold chain?

The promo video for their song "Ferrari Boyz", true to their title, features two hot Ferraris (red and yellow) and loads of bikini clad chicks.
