We're only in day five of April, and this month's already kicking my butt. I'm super behind on reviews, and I wish I had more time to write more longer-form posts, but you know how sleep gets in the way.
Let's just put it this way: last night was epic. Bright Eyes showed up, saw three and a half bands - about six hours worth of music and meeting people. When DJ Conor Oberst finally showed up after his show at First Avenue, he brought a ton of fans over. The word I got from a friend from that show was that he said on stage that, "I'll be DJing tonight... somewhere in Minneapolis". People-in-the-know all roamed down to the 400 Bar shortly afterward. It was great, The Builders and Butchers played a mini-six song set at the after party.
Anyway, while I'll recover, I thought I'd pass along another tip, head over to spin.com/itunes for a download code to get 17 tracks for FREE, tracks picked by the editors of Spin Magazine.
Last month's issue (March 2011) featured W♥M's favorite Lykke Li on the cover - in a weird sexy cut of a dress. This month's cover (April 2011) features The Strokes on their "comeback" (what comeback? I haven't been told).
SPIN'S APRIL 2011 PLAYLIST
From April 2011's playlist (see full listing above), my favorite is easily Russian-Jewish-Dutch-Javanese cutie Keren Ann. The synth reminds me of another song.
The single is probably from her 2011 album, 101, and she'll be on tour to promote it this Summer:
