LAKEFRONT MUSIC FEST
at Prior Lake
07/17/2015 - 07/18/2015, 3:30pm ($30)
lakefrontmusicfest.com
As we have previously mentioned - every weekend in the Summer months are reserved for "Festivals". For this weekend, the first festival I like what I see is Lakefront Music Fest, taking place in Prior Lake - just south of Minneapolis.
I personally think this is a great deal: $30 for both nights (if you buy in advance). Breaking it down it's $15 a show, and for that you get country star (and actor!) Dwight Yoakam one night and LA Guns with Runaways' Lita Ford the second night. If you buy tickets at the door, it's $30 per night.

LYDIA LOVELESS
at Turf Club
Sunday, 07/19/2015, 7:30pm ($15)
turfclub.net
Lydia Loveless is a breath of fresh air. The 24-year-old Ohio-born singer/songwriter has been writing and performing spirited country-rock since her early teens. Drawing inspiration from Hank III, Richard Thompson and writer Mary Karr and equipped with a fierce set of pipes that’s reminiscent of Neko Case, Loveless has punched out a name for herself with records that are driving and punk-rock raw. She isn’t shy about singing about strong emotions: frustration, obsession and depression. Loveless also draws from her rural Ohio upbringing; her father played music and owned a country music bar and she made her start in a band with her two older sisters. She released her first album, the polished The Only Man (recorded when she was freaking 15-years-old), and then in 2012 signed to Bloodshoot Records and dropped the critically praised Indestructible Machine. The accolades continue with her newest album, last year’s Somewhere Else, and a much-anticipated July 19th stop at my favorite venue: the Turf Club!
Opening for Loveless are the always awesome bearers of the Springsteen torch, Milwaukee’s Trapper Schoepp. The last time I saw Schoepp he was playing a short set with his brother and bandmate Tanner for the Stay Reckless tour and about to embark on a very 90s tour with Spacehog and Sponge. Since then he and the Shades have toured with the Jayhawks and Rhett Miller and had Marc Maron play guitar on the band’s new Brendan Benson-produced album. The band’s website says the record is to be released this year - guys, it’s already July! We’re running out of 2015! When is the new album gonna surface??

NATALIE PRASS
at 7th Street Entry
Sunday, 07/19/2015, 8pm ($12)
first-avenue.com
A few months earlier, Natalie Prass had to cancel her appearances (from May 8 to May 14, 2015; including a Minneapolis date) with San Fermin due to illness. The note I got was that she will be back soon and apologized for the inconvenience.
Well, Prass is back, this time headlining the 7th Street Entry this July 19th with In Tall Buildings
If you haven't been keeping up, both Rolling Stones and Time Magazine put Prass on their top list of artists you need to know in 2015. The New Yorker described her sound as "just timeless", never "retro".
Her US tour dates starts next week!

Brooklyn band Jobs (not related to Mr Steve Jobs) will be in Minneapolis at the Eagle's Club #34 with Hasps on July 19 (near Memory Lanes Bowl).
How they described the band:
Since forming in 2008, JOBS has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting new forces within the thriving experimental music scene in Brooklyn. Comprised of drummer Max Jaffe, bassist Rob Lundberg, and guitarist Dave Scanlon, the group has set itself apart with its charged performances - dripping with intensity and wild spontaneity.
Integrating blasts of industrial noise with mechanically precise rhythms and pop structures, their new album killer BOB sings showcases the band's influences by way of their virtuosity. Vocals lay over ominously incisive guitar work and percussive textures that range from the unhealthily organic to the speechlessly robotic. Distorted grooves pull themselves out of these structures.
