The third Internet Cat Video Festival just took place, and it drew in a lot of people. It would not surprise me if they announce that this year was a record turn out. People can be seen all the way on top of the hill by the rock statues (and beyond).
This thing started in 2012 at the Walker Art Center's Open Field. They brought it to the Minnesota State Fair last year, and it drew in a larger crowd, despite the small entrance fee. This third Internet Cat Video Festival is back at Open Field this year, and based on the turnout, I have to say it's a massive success. The unfortunate thing is that at a certain point, you couldn't see or hear anything going on stage, which meant people weren't paying attention to live music by Jack Klatt and the Cat Swingers or when the presenter Tom Weber, brought celebrity cat Lil' Bub on stage (which they asked everyone to be really quiet). The other bad thing were the long, long lines... but it is expected for such a large turn out. People brought their pets, their kids, and some people even dressed up in cat costumes or wearing shirts and hats to represent the feline love. As for the main attraction (the videos), I thought I heard that the presenter said that it was the same reel from last year (perhaps as a joke?). There were some videos I recognized, like the pallas cat discovering the camera... but there were a lot of cat videos I've never seen. Some would even be considered "short films", especially the subtitled French film, which I thought shouldn't belong in this collection. Otherwise, the cat videos were a hit with the audience. Looking forward to the next Internet Cat Video Festival. |
