IAMX returned to Minneapolis at the Varsity Theater last night.

This is just a quick post to get some basic information, tour dates, photos, and setlists online, as soon as possible.

Mr. Kitty

Opening up the show was Mr. Kitty (aka Forrest Avery Carney), singing sad/self-destructive synthpop songs with a fog machine, a strobe light, and a DJ.

His songs seemed really dark, topics included cutting, watching the night sky, and loneliness... Sometime the beats seemed like an unreleased disco album from the Cure.

Mr. Kitty's latest release Fragments came out August 25, 2015.

"It's been a long time since I've been here," IAMX's frontman Chris Corner noted since his last local appearance at the 7th Street Entry in October 2007.

If you didn't know, Corner is formerly from the trip-hop Sneaker Pimps band... but since forming IAMX, Corner's music sounds more like electronic/goth dance music.

When they play live, they all get dressed up in black outfits (well except for the drummer, who is 98% naked). There are three video projections, featuring videos that matched and synced with the energetic live performance. According to Corner, he personally filmed and edited these custom visuals for the live show. They seemed inspired by NIN or Tool's disturbing videos.

Bassist/keyboardist Janine Gezang was really fun to watch. She provided a lot of backup vocals, as well as singing on some songs... and would often hype up the crowd with her encouragement.

Setlist

As you can see from their setlist, the encore was to include "Bring Me Back A Dog", but that was not played.

IAMX's latest album Metanoia came out October 2nd via Metropolis Records (the same label who signed KMFDM and recently Skinny Puppy).

Teen Daze is back with his latest Morning World, available now on Paper Bag Records. Of course, we already mentioned the tour and album in July 2015, and previously saw him in 2012. He also recently launched his drip.com account (drip.com is a subscription service where you can get exclusive content, etc.)

Since we already talked about Teen Daze, let's take a look at the opener: Brooklyn's Heavenly Beat (aka John Felix Peña). Heavenly Beat's latest Designer is the fourth LP since 2011.

Boise's Youth Lagoon (aka Trevor Powers) is back on tour, this time in support of Savage Hills Ballroom (Fat Possum Records). We previously saw his show at the Fine Line Music Café in May 2013.

Toronto's Moon King (Daniel Benjamin & Maddy Wilde) will open the show. We previously caught the duo earlier in May 2015, which we wrote was their third time in Minneapolis.

British glam rockers The Darkness is back! The band formed in 2000 and by 2006 had called it quit. Of course, they couldn't stay away - by 2012, they had reformed (which we mentioned the reunion tour).

Now The Darkness is back again with a fourth studio album Last of Our Kind.

If you missed them the first time or second time around, you simply have to catch them on this 2015 tour. People forget, but there is a reason why the British band won Best Live Act and Best British Band by Kerrang! and Best Group, Best Rock Group, and Best Album from the BRIT Award.

With this current tour, all the original band members have reunited, except for the drummer... who is Rufus Taylor, the son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

Britain’s rising new glam/rock band The Struts are taking on the US with their current tour promoting  their album Everybody Wants. Their hit single “Could Have Been Me” is currently on the top 5 of Billboard’s Alternative charts, and the self-proclaimed ‘glamorous indie’ band has been racking up Best New Artists awards consistently for the past year. Lead singer Luke Spiller is a sight to behold, strutting around onstage like he was born to be there (hence where their manager thought of their band name). They do a killer cover of Lorde’s Royals, which we hope to hear when we cover their show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles this Wednesday, October 14th.

Los Angeles-based glam noir band IAMX will be playing in Minneapolis at the Varsity Theater on Monday, October 19th... of course we will cover the show. You should know we are big fans of Sneaker Pimps, which was created by Liam Howe and Chris Corner. When Kelli Dayton left the band, Corner took over as lead vocalists (which, personally, I felt wasn't the same band anymore). Perhaps he felt the same way, because since then, Corner started his own group called IAMX.

IAMX is part rock, part electronic, part burlesque, but all entertaining. They're known for their on-stage theatrics, so we're pretty excited to see what this upcoming show will be like.
