And you know what ? It's GOOD AWESOME.

I arrived late to the Hunx and His Punx show at the 7^th Street Entry, in Minneapolis, last night on May Day, May 1^st, on account that I attended another show earlier.

I walked in the middle of Shannon and the Clams' set, a band that has a very similiar 60s beach rock/girl group sound that Hunx is doing with his music.

Shannon was losing her voice, but she seemed happy at the crowd, which was very filled, despite the fact that it was an 18 and up show and that it was a very late Sunday.

Shannon and the Clams seems to have a lot of fans. One couple drove from Wisconsin to see them at 7^th Street because they missed them when they were in Milwaukee the previous night.

Hunx and His Punx came on really late, with extra large bottles of Corona. You know it's going to get serious, really fast.

With already a huge group of young boys in the front and back, ready to take off their shirts at the request of Hunx (who spends the entire show shirtless and pantless).

I don't know who their keyboarder/guitarist was, but, we'll just call him Hunx 2. I thought his Punkettes were all women, but I guess I am wrong.

HUNX & HIS PUNX

They stuck very closely to the setlist (see photo), with the occasional hiccups like knocking down beers and wondering if the bass was on. It sounded fine and if there were problems, who cares, everyone is too busy dancing.

I thought "Lover Lanes" would be my favorite, but having started the song pretty early in the set, they were just warming up. I thought "Bad Boy" was the best performance-wise. They ended their set with The Curse Of Being Young".

As for the encore, Hunx is now on drums. He confessed that he is a massive Justin Bieber fan. I did not know the song, but if it's Justin Bieber, I really don't care.

Hunx and His Punx are finishing up their tour. Go see them for some good times. Their record, Too Young To Be in Love, is out now on Hardly Art Records.

PS, sorry for the poor photograph, but I was stuck on the opposite side of Hunx and also, there was absolutely no lighting. Combined with their smoke machine and no lights, it was a terrible shoot.

I've gone on record and called Gravy Train!!!!, the "nastiest band in the world", and I know they tried to take it down a notch on their later albums, but boy, for a time they were the sexcore band of the hour. I'm glad that Hunx (aka Seth Bogart), from said-band, have branched out to 50s teen music, with his band Hunx and His Punx. And you know what ? It's GOOD AWESOME. It's not sexual, it's not cheesy, it's done right: with a full backing of sixties-girl "punkettes".

The album I've been listening to lately is called Too Young To Be In Love, their first record on Hardly Art.

Like songs from that black and white era, the subject matter is usually about bubblegum love, from "Lover's Lane" to the title track. The former track is so good, it really set the tone of how the album would come together.

Some songs seems like they are parts one and two. For instance, it sounds like "Keep Away From Johnny" and "He's Coming Back" share the story of "My Boyfriend's Back". The two songs "The Curse of Being Young" and "Too Young To Be In Love" works well together too, sharing the theme of forbidden love of the youth.

I really like Too Young To Be In Love, but it's not an album that I can easily recommend to casual music fan. First of all, the downside is that I feel that very few people might appreciate Hunx's vocals. It's very... distinctive. Plus Hunx can be overly flamboyant, let's put it that way. If you can get past all that, you'll find the 50s/60s sound of Too Young To Be In Love to be surprisingly different than most albums being released today. You don't have to take my word for it, check out a few free songs from Hardly Art, they actually picked two very good tracks: "Lover's Lane" and "Too Young To Be In Love".

They are currently on tour, so hopefully I'll be there on May 1^st at 7^th Street Entry to check out the sleaze and the good times.

Trivia: Was it intentional? When I first saw the cover artwork for Too Young to be in Love I thought it was an Eddie Murphy homage. What do you think?
