Leading up to Valentine's Day, Hayden shared the title track, "Hey Love", from the forthcoming Arts & Crafts release, Hey Love, over at Soundcloud....
Hayden Desser, the Canadian musician who performs under the name Hayden, played at The Turf Club in St. Paul on Saturday night, June 13th. Touring in support of his new album, Hey Love, he and his three piece band played songs from throughout his career during his 100 minute set.
Setlist
He opened with the title track of Hey Love, and played two more songs from that album during the show, including a solo acoustic version of “No Happy Birthday.” He played one song each from his two albums of the 1990’s, Everything I Long For and The Closer I Get. The song, “Bad as They Get,” from the former, was also played solo acoustic. He played two songs from his third album, Skyscraper National Park, and one from his fourth studio album, Elk-Lake Serenade. He played two from In Field and Town, one from The Place Where We Lived, and three from his 2013 album Us Alone. He also performed a cover of “one of the best songs of the 80’s,” Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” And he ended the show with an unamplified song performed off the stage, among the audience.
vital, moving, and at times, beautiful
It’s been nearly 20 years since the release of his first album, and Hayden still manages to make a personal connection with the audience. There were veterans in the audience who had seen him many times, and a few who were first discovering him, but the entire audience seemed into it. I can’t recall a moment of conversation intruding on the performance, even in Hayden’s quietest moments. And that’s unusual for a small venue with a bar right there. He may not be a star, not in Minnesota anyway, but he knows how to hold the audience’s interest and put on a good show. And his music remains vital, moving, and at times, beautiful.
The opener was Ryan Holweger, a local musician playing with that particular 4 piece band for the first time. I was told that his previous performances have been solo. Despite that, they sounded tight. They played a 35 minute set of rootsy Americana, including a cover of Kenny Roger’s “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town.”

Canada's Lights (aka Valerie Poxleitner) is kicking off her national US tour at Mill City Nights in Minneapolis this Valentine's Day (Saturday) with support from X Ambassadors. If it wasn't for the fact that I've already committed to Sleater-Kinney and Lizzo this same night, I'd definitely be checking out this geek girl pop multi-instrumentalist (she's into comic books!)
The Little Machines tour will take her to Coachella 2015, which Ryan Seacrest included Lights in his '10 Artists You Must See at Coachella,' saying "Lights has a knack for creating celestial beats by combining alternative rock and contemporary synth-pop."
With a couple of Juno Awards (sort of like Australia's ARIA Awards or USA's American Music Awards) and Gold records under her belt (and not to mention a recently sold out European tour), she's amassed a dedicated 'Lights Army' over the years (1.3 million Facebook fans, over half a million Twitter fans), including self-professed fans Miley Cyrus, John Mayer, and K'Naan among others.

Often compared to Janis Joplin, singer/songwriter/banjoist Elle King will be releasing her debut album Love Stuff next week, February 17th... just missing out on Valentine's Day. The Love Stuff album featured her new single, "Ex's & Oh's", which you can hear it live on The Today Show next Tuesday.
Here's what they said about the single:
"Ex's & Oh's" was #1 Most Added at AAA radio upon release and has received tremendous praise: Billboard raves “Mix Duffy's vocals, the Black Keys' urgent rhythms and a hook and tempo that recalls P!nk's "So What," and you have Elle King's catchy and clever RCA debut.”
She's set to play at Hangout Music Festival 2015 in Alabama.

Hayden is wrapping up his post-SXSW tour this week, stopping by Minneapolis' Triple Rock Social Club this Easter Sunday (tomorrow, March 31st).
He is here to promote his seventh album, Us Alone . …
Hayden, the Canadian singer/songwriter/grunge-rocker (yes he is eclectic) played at the Triple Rock Social Club (with fellow Canadian opener Lou Cannon) in Minneapolis last Sunday night in front of a small (80 or so), but enthusiastic audience. He mixed old and new material in a set that lasted approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Toward the middle of the set his band-mates left the stage and he played solo, showcasing his folky side. After they rejoined him, he picked it up a bit, rocking out on several numbers, particularly the last tracks of his set and encore, "Dynamite Walls" from his album Skyscraper National Park, and "In September" from his first album Everything I Long For, respectively.
Hayden actually performed a second, seemingly unintentional second encore. He stuck his head out, apparently not quite believing that most of the audience was still there calling for more, and the explosion of applause and cheers left him little choice but to come back out and perform one last song, the piano ballad "Wide Eyes" from Elk-Lake Serenade. It was a beautiful end to a fine evening of music, showcasing again what an outstanding talent this artist from Toronto has been for over 15 years, under appreciated as he is.
Hayden just finished his tour for Us Alone. The new album is out now on Arts & Crafts.

We first mentioned singer/songwriter Jaymay five years ago and at the time, she just released a split with Kayoko the year before. Guess what? The two will be heading to Minneapolis at the Triple Rock this April 22nd, 2013*.
According to Jaymay's Facebook (who is very active on social media), she said that she last saw Kayoko on their Japanese tour seven years ago. It should be a fun reunion tour.
Anyway, in the last five years since we wrote about Jaymay: she's made it to the big time on Conan O'Brien and Craig Ferguson in the States and In the Colored Room in the UK. Her latest album is called 10under2 which was released last year under her own label.
Jaymay's "The Never Be Daunted" Tour kicks off in April.
UPDATE: ALL EVENTS HAVE BEEN CANCELED DUE TO HEALTH REASONS.

San Cisco debut on Triple J in 2011 at #7 for "Awkward" and last year, two San Cisco songs made it to JJJ's 2012 countdown: "Wild Things" (#53) and "Fred Astaire" (#48). …
Yes, our favorite San Cisco is heading back to Minneapolis tonight (March 30th) at the Triple Rock. I will personally be there to welcome the Australian band back.
The ridiculously catchy and popular "Awkward" song (now over 4 million YouTube views), has been be re-released as an EP last Tuesday, March 26th, featuring two new tracks, "Fred Astaire" and "Wild Things" (both songs were previously released as UK and Australian singles). I believe all the songs will be available on San Cisco's debut album. According to an RCA representative, the record is coming out later this spring.

Hayden is wrapping up his post-SXSW tour this week, stopping by Minneapolis' Triple Rock Social Club this Easter Sunday (tomorrow, March 31st).
He is here to promote his seventh album, Us Alone, out now on Arts & Crafts.
Us Alone is probably more stripped down from his previous work, keeping it simple. Hayden explained that the main reason was that it was hard "replicate things like that live." He also added that his vision for Us Alone was, "I wanted the sound of five people walking into a room and playing a full set. With the exception of some stellar help from friends on a song or two, those five people were mostly just me…"
What's left of Hayden's tour:
Mar. 30: Winnipeg, MB (West End Cultural Centre)
Mar. 31: Minneapolis, MN (Triple Rock Social Club)
April 3: Chicago, IL (Schubas)
Opening up will be fellow Canadian Lou Canon, who actually did some guest vocals on Us Alone.
