It's been a while since I did a Flashback article - this one was recently on my mind because I bought a Stereo Total CD at a used record store. I missed their appearance at the 7th Street Entry in 2009 on account that I was travelling from Austin to Minneapolis, after SXSW. However, I was there for Stereo Total at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis on May 21st, 2005.
As usual with Triple Rock, there were three bands on the bill, Canadian Les Georges Leningrad and Hawnay Troof, who seemed like he was working out with sunglasses and sweat bands. From my poor memory, I believe all the bands may have jumped on stage during Stereo Total's set or during their encore.
So, if you're not familiar, Stereo Total is a German-based duo Françoise Cactus and Brezel Göring. The band's been around since the 90s, but what set them apart is their ability to sing and write music in French, German, Spanish, and English. They are multilingual, but often spoken with a weird French accent.
When I saw them, they were on tour for Do the Bambi, which had two localized CD release. The US version featured (some) songs in English, while songs like "I Am Naked" is in German ("Ich Bin Nackt") for their release. Since the cover artwork were slightly different, it may be worth it to track down the two releases.
Again, I should mention that I have very bad memory, what I do remember from this show was they did "Holiday Inn". Fans who knew it, sang along with it... however, there was a funny moment when Cactus pointed the mic at a passionate nonfan in front (and he didn't know the song's next line). It was a little embarrassing for everyone, but clearly the dancing fan in front was too busy having a good time to care.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they did the "I am Naked" song and the Janco duet "Mars Rendez-Vouz" (possibly with Göring taking the part of Janco). I think "Tas De Tole" was also played, I'm pretty sure it was played because otherwise I would've been pretty upset because it was my "new favorite" Stereo Total song at the time.
Also, "Push It" (Salt-N-Pepa) was played, due to pressure from my friend Celeste. That song is only a 30 seconds long, but it definitely improvised and not on the setlist.
PS, Please note that I don't have any artwork, ticket, or photos from this show. The poster artwork is actually not from this Do the Bambi tour, but their 2009 tour.
