Lara returns to W♥M Radio to talk about her education:
• Amoeba Records and Rasputin Music rival music stores on Telegraph in Berkeley.
• Lara is a big fan of the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport), trip to San Francisco and Oakland.
• London 2012 Opening and Closing Olympic Ceremonies, directed by Danny Boyle: Spice Girls reunited, Beady Eye doing an Oasis' "Wonderwall."
• Gotye and Jonti at the US Bank Theater in Target Center.
• Hopscotch Music Festival 2012 in North Carolina this September 6-8, 2012. Jesus and Mary Chain as one of the headlining band.
• Orca Team album review
• Song of the show is Duffy & Bernard Butler (from Suede!) "Smoke Without Fire," from the "An Education" motion picture soundtrack.
BONUS: Gogol Bordello, The Hives vs The Vines, Asian and White Robin, Elvis Costello, and Lush's "Ex."

A year ago, if you were to mention Gotye in the USA, no one would know who that was. He got a massive, massive hit with "Somebody That I Used to Know" (which hit #1 on the Billboard charts.) Anyway, Gotye has asked Jonti to come out on tour with him in August. How lucky!
Jonti added, "I will be embarking on an amazing journey with Gotye and his crew across the US and Europe. To see all those city name's and venues like Radio City and Greek Theatre is a little scary, but way more exciting. I'm really looking forward to the tour at the moment!"
He starts the tour next week, August 22nd. If everything works out, I'll be seeing Jonti at Minneapolis' US Bank Theater (across the street from First Avenue). I'll expect to hear music from Jonti's albums, Twirligig and Sine & Moon. Also check out his mixtape for Under the Radar magazine.

Who can believe that this legendary punk band is still around? I remember playing their songs when I was a radio DJ at KFSR 90.7 FM. For a time in the 90s, South-Cal punk was the thing. Of course, we also had ska, but you never really hear ska bands in the news (well, okay, I know Mighty Mighty Bosstones are on tour.)
Anyroad, Strung Out just played at the Triple Rock in Minneapolis, and they're still on the long "Twisted In A Suburban Wasteland" tour for North America. What makes this tour cool is that they're doing every songs from two albums, Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues and Twisted By Design.
Why are they doing this? Singer Jason Cruz answered, "It feels right to do one last retrospective before we head into the making of another album. I think people will really enjoy these older songs played back to back."

These guys just graduated high school, but already going to play at the big Aussie festivals like Big Day Out and Laneway, so youth is still on their side.
If you were wondering about the 3-2-1 Contact theme song, it's because the podcast is #123. I've love that PBS show.
So, Sally stopped by to discuss the music topics of the day.
J Mascis at the Sydney Festival.
Gotye. "Somebody I Used To Know" hottest song at the moment.

Bands on our short list: Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Adele, Noel Gallagher.
Lana Del Rey canceled her Australian tour due to American backlash!
Band of the show is San Cisco, a band that we've both mentioned before. Their EP, Awkward was just released in America on February 7th, 2012, via Island City Records/MGM.
The single is quite catchy with its boy-girl conversation-lyrics.
They are currently touring with The Jungle Giants throughout Australia:

SAT 18 FEB Spectrum Sydney
SUN 19 FEB Great Northern Newcastle

I don't really post a lot of youtube videos here because personally I think youtube's interface is ugly. Too ugly to live! Yes, I have a personal goofy youtube account, but I left the service when the copyright police came in and took down some videos because I used their songs in the background.
Still, youtube is the place to be, especially when it comes to viewing videos on the internet. I just wish they'd update their interface, something smooth, like vimeo.
This was brought to my attention recently, but the newspaper Wall Street Journal has a YouTube channel featuring a show called "Off Duty" which focuses on lifestyle, entertainment, fashion, and music - which is really odd because when you think of WSJ, you think "business", "stocks", and "boring".
I am told that the show just started last week, so it should be interesting to see where it goes. Looking over their 40+ videos so far, I can say that some of these things don't really belong (in my opinion). Like, perhaps there should be subcategories for music, cars, cooking, etc., because I can tell you right now that personally, I wouldn't be interested in subscribing to a channel and getting car tech.
Anyway, the music-related episode that I saw is an interview with Australia's Gotye, who had a big hit with his "naked" music video for "Somebody That I Used To Know". The video, featuring Kimbra, clocked in at an astonishing 66 million views!! Holy cow!

Toronto art-rock, The Darcys, just released Aja, their second release in a triology. What's cool for cover lovers is that it's basically the entire Steely Dan's 1977 Aja album, reinterpretated.
You can grab The Darcys' version for free on their website. If you really love it, look for a limited edition 180-gram colored vinyl from GalleryAC.com.

Seattle's James Apollo recently appeared on KEXP Radio, the public station in Washington. You can watch "Two by Two" on vimeo. The video had several cameras and well edited (even though I detest "artsy hand held" cams). If you like what you saw, you can download the audio version as the song of the day (February 9th). Entire performance here, complete with "Real Audio"!

UNISON (in CAPS), is a French duo, their self-titled US debut LP will be coming out April 10th, 2012.
The album promises "deathgaze" a music genre combination of "Crunk" and "Shoegaze". If you have to hear their song to understand it, head over to soundcloud.
As for their music video for "Brothers & Sisters", I have to confess, I love kaleidoscopes. They make everything look cool.
Icelandic folksters Of Monsters and Men have added additional shows and upgraded their venues to accommodate their massive fan base. If you have ever liked Mumford and Sons, you'll love Of Monsters and Men.
Their debut album, My Head is An Animal, is coming out April 3rd via Universal Republic Records. You can watch the music video for "Little Talks" on vevo.com.
Tour dates (the latest upgraded venues and additional dates) below. Of course, they sold out the Fine Line Cafe in Minneapolis, and they didn't upgrade the venue :/.
