"The Golden Age" is the title track, fourth and final music video from Woodkid's debut album. Directed by Woodkid (real name Yoann Lemoine), the video includes a collaboration with British classical composer Max Richter.
Lemoine wrote:
The Golden Age is the last single and video for my first album.
Throughout the process of directing videos for this story, I slowly removed all digital and post-production layers of my work to finally create this piece. It is somehow a postcard from my childhood, with memories and emotions from the countryside assembled together in a long, free, mellow piece. It's about the child trapped inside, the haunting memories, the beautiful and the dark ones. I wanted the camera work and acting direction to be very organic and carnal, in opposition to the digital, rigid and super-composed aspects of the previous videos. That's why we decided to shoot everything handheld, without any mechanical movement and with no post-production. In that way, I would say this video is very different from the other ones.
It all started when I bought an original print by my favorite photographer, William Gedney, friend and contemporary of Lee and Maria Friedlander, who shot families in rural America in the sixties. I decided that this piece would pay tribute to the beauty of his work and the way he shoots boys and men in their environment, to the sensuality of his eye, which describes so well what I felt for other boys when I was younger.
In order to extend the song and create the right mood for this piece, I collaborated with composer Max Richter. He extended and re-recorded his piece ‘Embers’ to adapt it to the pace and tonality of ‘The Golden Age.’ Together, we created this very free ‘hybrid’ edit of the track, which tells so much about the pace of never ending childhood summers.
In a way, this piece is a final goodbye to four years of work and tour for this album.
The Golden Age album is available now via Green United Music/Universal Music Germany.
Speaking of music video, Spanish Gold's new music videof or "Day Drinkin'" recently premiered over at Paste Magazine. The song is taken from their latest album South of Nowhere, out now on BMG/Del Mar Records.
Lead vocalist Dante Schwebel talked about recording the new record, "We kept finding that we had a lot of the same reference points during the recording. It became evident that we were still children of the MTV era. We grew up with MTV when it was still a music channel. The way that the programming crossed genres from R&B to hip hop, rock, soul and pop music is how we approach records. It’s an album of all those styles. Like watching a random hour of MTV programming circa 1986-1996. It’s a nod to Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Madonna, the Beastie Boys or Tom Petty, all with a Texas border town setting. It all adds up to a fun listen that you can keep on repeat."

Elton John's breakthrough album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, will be getting a special re-issue this March 25th, 2014.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road spent eight weeks at No.1 and went platinum seven times over in the U.S., thanks to the Marilyn Monroe song, "Candle in the Wind", dynamite "Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting", and the c-c-c-catchy "Bennie and the Jets".
I already own the 30th Anniversary Edition of this record on Double CD + DVD set, and I thought that was the ultimate collection... but clearly I am wrong because this upcoming release is really the grandmaster ultimate edition.
The upcoming 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road will be available in a variety of formats - including that new so-called "HD Pure Audio Blu-Ray", which we just previously reviewed the new format.
It sounds really expensive, so I may have to sit out on this new box set of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (even though that 100-page book sounds so cool).
Collectors! Here is a complete list of formats for Goodbye Yellow Brick Road:
1. 1-CD set: 2014 CD remaster of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering from the original analogue tapes. Digital equivalent editions: Remaster, Mastered For iTunes, HD Edition
2. 2-CD set: 2014 CD remaster of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road as above, 9 cover versions, best of Live At Hammersmith CD Digital equivalent editions: Remaster, Mastered For iTunes
3. Five Disc CD/DVD box set: containing standard album, 9 cover version disc, single B-sides and bonus tracks, complete “Live At Hammersmith” CD, DVD of Bryan Forbes’ 1973 film Elton John And Bernie Taupin Say Goodbye To Norma Jean and Other Things, and 100-page illustrated hardback book packed with rare photos, memorabilia and a new essay containing interviews with Elton John and Bernie Taupin). Digital editions for audio: Remaster, Mastered For iTunes
4. Standard 12” vinyl album. Mastered for vinyl by Doug Sax and Robert Hadley at The Mastering Lab, California. 180-gram audiophile quality vinyl with download card
5. Limited edition yellow vinyl available from store.eltonjohn.com
6. HD Pure Audio Blu-Ray album
Elton John is doing a ton of concert dates, but the one that I noticed right away is a long residency in Las Vegas at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace from 03/29/14 to 04/26/14. Don't live in Las Vegas, but still want to see the Rocket Man live? No problem! For two nights only in the U.S. on March 18 and March 26, 2014, CinemaLive.com, in association with Rocket Music Entertainment Group, Yamaha Entertainment Group of America and Universal Music Group will release a full concert in over 1,200 cinemas worldwide in over 40 countries.

We've briefly mentioned the album earlier in July, but wanted to mention that at the time of release, it was featured on iTunes New and Noteworthy section and spent two months in the CMJ top 30.

They've released a track from the EP called "Fool's Gold", featuring Raekwon.
The Body Wins
Sarah Jaffe
We've previously written about Sarah Jaffe's album The Body Wins, which I previously said that "it's actually very good. Reminds me a bit of Florence + The Machine, but electronica, with Jaffe's beautiful voice."
S1 talked about Jaffe: "Sarah Jaffe is amazing, I truly believe we have something really special when we're working together. The first three songs we ever collaborated on were picked by major artists—including Eminem's 'Bad Guy'—so it was only right that we proceed and present our ideas through what we know now as The Dividends."

Barely Blind is from Los Angeles (by the way of Southeast Texas). They have a song called "Golden Child" (released in August), which you can hear at Soundcloud.
When asked why they sound like Fleetwood Mac and Phoenix, singer Bradley Cuccio said, "We feel like even in our early days we never really fit one set genre. We've always managed to write songs that set us apart and I think this is true for 'Golden Child' more than any of our previous works. We are in a time where good music is celebrated. Genres don't much matter anymore and that is such a great thing for songwriters. For us personally, we are able to channel all sorts of styles that we listen to. We find the rhythm and the grooves in everything from UGK to Phoenix, all the way to Black Sabbath. We contribute our wide variety of listening pleasures to our creative awakening in this song and our future album."

Goldfrapp is back! The UK dance band just announced their new album Tales Of Us will be coming out September 10th, 2013, via Mute Records.
The album is described as Goldfrapp's most narrative, cinematic and intimate recording to date. Does this mean a new direction (away from dance music?)
Be on the lookout for Goldfrapp to play some shows in the summer, including a special double date at the Manchester International Festival on July 17th and 18th. They've arranged for the Royal Northern College of Music string orchestra to playTales Of Us live for the first time. Of course, tickets are already sold out!
Their European headlining tour will take place in October and November. U.S. dates to be announced soon. Personally, I cannot wait!

UK duo Bondax (Adam Kaye and George Townsend) is coming back to North America for a 2013 tour. They are in the middle of writing a new album, as Kaye mentioned, "We're only just writing our album now, but we're going to have songs, but songs treated differently so the structures aren't what you expect. It's got to keep the interest and not just be trying to do what's current."
Check out their new song, "Gold".

Gold Lake is Brooklyn's latest band, although two of the members are Carlos and Lua from Madrid. The two originally was playing music as the band We Are Balboa (distributed by PIAS), before relocating in New York as Gold Lake. Anyway, Gold Lake's We Already Exist is coming out this week, June 18th, 2013. Expect to hear some of those songs at their upcoming show at the Glasslands with Isadora on July 23rd.
Speaking of Brooklyn, Blue & Gold's debut single, "Ghost Man", taken from their debut self-titled EP, will be out at the end of June. The band will be performing their first show at Pianos in NYC on July 17th, 2013.
Hear "Ghost Man" song now, and see if you can hear Alabama Shakes and White Stripes influences:
You guys must be tired of hearing us talk about Gold Fields, since we talk about them so often.
I have some updates on the Australian band, their debut album will be called Black Sun and it's set for release February 26th, 2013..…
Look like the Australian group Gold Fields will be heading back to Minneapolis this February 17th! I tried to warn these guys the last few times they were here to not tour here in the Winter, but … I guess we'll find out how they like the weather, haha.
Look for Gold Fields to make their debut television appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On February 27th, just a day after the release of their highly anticipated debut album Black Sun on Astralwerks.
MTV named Gold Fields as one of their 13 Artists to Watch in 2013, so check them out if they're playing near you:

Award-winning singer/songwriter essence goldman is releasing her debut children album A Dog Named Moo and His Friend Roo on January 29th, 2013, via myKaZoo Music/Universal Music Enterprises.
The story behind the album was the album began as a gift of love for her son. She had all these fun songs written that she decided to put it in an album to share with the world.
In addition to the A Dog Named Moo... album, she is releasing "T REXXXXX!" as a book; "Everybody Has a Butt" as a smart phone app; and three animated videos ("T REXXXXX!" in claymation, "Everybody Has a Butt" and "Yum Yum").
Gretta Rochelle and Jack Armondo are My Gold Mask, and their new album, Leave Me Midnight is coming out February 19th, 2013. Check out "Further It Gets" from the upcoming album:
The band will be heading out on tour in support of Leave Me Midnight soon.
Ask anyone that's ever own an Xbox 360, and they'll tell you they've experienced the dreaded Red Ring of Death. In fact, they've probably had it several times in their console's life cycle....
I briefly mentioned Britt Nicole a few years ago. She just premiered her title track for her album, Gold, today (November 29th) on Vevo.
The Nashville-based Britt Nicole will be re-releasing Gold on February 26th via Capitol Records. The album is repackaged from her Sparrow Records release (originally in March and debuted at #41 on the Top 100 Billboard Charts.)
Apparently there is an anti-bullying message and belief in yourself on Gold, as Nicole explained, "The message of Gold is to remind those kids that are struggling that no matter what they have been told they are worth so much more than the words of another. Once you know that, no one can ever steal your shine."
Nicole will be doing two special "first-ever" Capitol Records debut performances in Los Angeles and New York City:
01/09/13 - The Roxy in L.A. at 7pm
01/16/13 - Canal Room in N.Y.C. at 7 p.m.
Look for new mixes of "Gold" (including a club mix) on the upcoming Gold EP (to be released digitally on December 18th).
As for Gold Fields, it's only been two weeks since we last saw the Australian boys. They were in sunny Los Angeles last night, so it was a cold shock when they landed in Minneapolis. I hate to break this to them, but that wasn't cold what ....
I have some updates on the Australian band, their debut album will be called Black Sun and it's set for release February 26th, 2013. Currently you can only get Dark Again single, and possibly Treehouse, so it's slim picking if you want more music from Gold Fields.
We like these guys, having seen them twice this year, so check them out if they're playing near you:

This really came out of nowhere for me. My bf will load up my library list and when I go pick up my junk I usually get little suprises like this. It's really a wonderful album and Sufjan Stevens has a haunting and lovely voice.....
Singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens just released his 50+ Christmas five-disc album, Silver & Gold, collecting Songs for Christmas, Vol 6-10.

My number one complaint about the Xbox is Xbox Gold. I seriously don't understand why there are so many Xbox fanboys out there? They love paying for Xbox Gold, they don't think there's anything wrong with the service.
Just to be clear on my thoughts on this: Xbox Gold is a scam. Imagine this: you buy a computer and when you want to send an email*, or play an online game like World of Warcraft, or Netflix, or Twitter, or Facebook, and your computer prompt up a message that you need to buy a year of "Gold". That's exactly what Xbox Gold is to me.
Prices for Xbox Gold is $15 a month**. So do the math: if you want to stream Netflix, it's $8 for Netflix, plus $15 for Xbox Gold. On any other platform, PS3, computer, Roku, "Smart" Blu-Ray players, etc., there isn't a $15 extra fee.
Here's another scenario for you: You got a redemption code for a free Vudu movie. You launch Xbox and boo-hoo, you have to pay $15 to Xbox Gold just to watch a $3.99 movie. That's the kind of restriction I'm talking about.
What's heartbreaking is a free service like YouTube requires you to pay the $15 fee, which is unbelievable considering that YouTube is free everywhere else. Do you know of any other platform that asks you to pay for YouTube (we're talking about the free content here, not the paid movies YouTube sells.)
Sadly, my original first generation PlayStation 3 died. It was temporarily fixed, but as I figured, it eventually broke again. So I'm taking in my Xbox and selling it to get a new PS3. Goodbye Xbox and good riddance.
PS: Xbox Music, not worth it. You pay a subscription of $100 a year, plus $60 for Xbox Gold to access it on the Xbox, making it the world's most expensive music subscription model.
* This is a real complaint: "You need to have an Xbox LIVE Gold membership to send messages on Xbox.com."
** To be fair, most fanboys buys Xbox Gold as a discounted annual fee of $60 or whatever special offers they get.
Willy Mason is a singer-songwriter, who came into fame via mister Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst, signing him on his record label.
His upcoming release is Don't Stop Now EP, set for release on January 14th, 2013, via Communion Records (available digitally and limited 10"). The EP is a sampling of what's to come for his third studio album, also due out later in 2013.
You can enjoy his new single and video for "I Got Gold" on YouTube.
Mason will also begin his North American tour around the release of the EP, starting in Montreal on January 13th. Currently, Mason is enjoying a lot of sold out dates in the UK.

Already in love and want to know more about them? They're from Glasgow, Scotland, if you haven't figured out from their lovely accents. They are, I believe, two grrls and one boy: Eilidh Rodgers, Ruari MacLean and Rachel Aggs.
Terraplane Sun is a five-piece "blues rock" band from California. The band semi-recently unveiled their video for "Get Me Golden" (from their EP Friends) featuring unfriendly violent puppets. Not interested in watching the video, you can hear the audio on Soundcloud:
If you're in Cali, you can see them on tour this December:
Dec 01 Hotel Utah San Francisco, CA
Dec 03 Velvet Jones Santa Barbara, CA
Dec 04 Constellation Room Santa Ana, CA
Anyway, in less depressing news, Solid Gold released their second album, Eat Your Young, on Totally Gross National Product.
Guitarist Matthew Locher talked about why it took so long (their debut album, Bodies of Water, came out in 2008) to produce the sophomore album, "We've never been motivated by making records. We're driven by making something beautiful—capturing a moment in our lives that can translate to any place or time."
It's good that the album is finally out. I did a search for it on Amazon and the result was for the artist "Mo Solid Gold." It's probably mislabeled, as there really is another band called Mo Solid Gold, which featured Rob Hague, the drummer from my favorite punk band S*M*A*S*H.
Also, as I've previously mentioned, Solid Gold is playing at First Avenue this December 7th. Wild Belle will be opening up.
Stay Golden is the new album from Oklahoma's Taddy Porter. It's set for release on February 26th, 2013, via Primary Wave Music, but you can hear the lead single, "Fever" now on PasteMagazine.com.
The new album, co-produced by Dave Cobb and Mark Neill, is said to include eleven new lo-fi songs, with elements of "Motown soul, Southern blues and psychedelic pop."
Taddy Porter is doing a few dates in December.

New Jersey's Goldspot just released a charity single called "If the Hudson Overflows." All proceeds from the sale of the song will go to the American Red Cross' Superstorm Sandy Disaster Relief efforts.
Singer/songwriter Siddhartha Khosla had this to say about the sonng, "When I wrote this song, it was really just a love song for my wife. In the song, the Hudson overflowing was supposed to be a metaphor for tough times - I never envisioned that the Hudson would actually flood the streets around my home. My heart goes out to the victims of this disaster, not just in my hometown of Hoboken, but everywhere on the East Coast."
If you want to hear the song, which features backing vocals from Aimee Driver and David Nowakowski from Scars on 45, you can check it out on Soundcloud.
