COLD SHOWERS

Tough to be the first band at an all day event. No crowd to speak of and not enough beer consumed. Reaction was limited at best from the crowd. They were ok nothing special. Lead singer was pretty monotone...
POLIÇA

Good crowd, held their attention, which is a good sign. The venue was well over a mile from the main area.
I love the dual drummers. I know Channy [Leaneagh] is the star, but the idea of a lead and rhythm drummer is cool. Ever since I saw Phil Collins and Chester Thompson in Genesis dueling on "Los Endos", I love the idea.
Overall, Poliça will get some good buzz from SXSW.
SQUAREHEAD

Really good pop band. Tight three piece and the songs were really good.
GENERAL FIASCO

Aggressive pop. Very driving sound. We were way up front for this one. A complete wall of sound coming at us. New song "Sleep" had a good hook to it.
CASHIER NO.9

Best band so far. Only 20 min set and they struggled with the mix, but I thought they had more variety than any other bands so far. Great harmonies, etc.

THE XCERTS

Thrash band from Scotland, but underneath a really good voice and a good pop sensibility.

THE DB'S

Reunions are always a tough gig. Die hards want the old stuff and the band paid to play the new stuff. The DB's were no exception. Set consisted mostly of new, 2 older songs and one cover The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows".
I loved it, especially when they announced the bass player was Mitch Easter (Lets Active, REM producer, etc). For Power Pop fans this was a dream come true.
Let's hope the new LP [Falling Off The Sky] is enough to get them to tour this summer.
