Touring through Minneapolis

Here are a few bands that Lara and I are covering live (pending weather and good fortune, of course).

GABE DIXON

The last time I heard about Gabe Dixon, it was for his 2008 album, and as "The Gabe Dixon Band". I guess he dropped the "band" title and his latest, One Spark was released is as a solo artist last August.

The album is described as "a powerful collection of masterful songwriting and performance" and "Dixon's voice is amazing".

Lara will be seeing Dixon at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis, I am hoping she will spot co-songwriter Dan "Semisonic" Wilson.

PS, there are a few other bands on 400 Bar's calendar that should interest us: The Envy Corps / Usonia / Skypiper / Aluoma/Blackbird Darlings on January 13th, Cursive / Cymbals Eat Guitars / Conduits on March 23rd, The Wedding Present / Jet Age / Pinky Piglets (Toquiwa) on March 28th. Since I did see and had a great time with The Wedding Present in 2010, I am looking forward to seeing them again in 2012.

I wonder if Veronica Falls stole their name from the teen-detective Veronica Mars? Lara doesn't like their name, but she thought their music is "very Pitchfork-tastic". Which is why I volunteered her to attend their Minneapolis show at 7th Street Entry on February 17th.
