Madeline Kenney and Flock of Dimes (aka Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak) have teamed up with a new split 7” The Sisters/Helpless (available on Carpark Records).
The two girls met in 2018 to work together on Kenney’s record Perfect Shapes. They love working together on that recording session that they sent the year touring and living together as roommates.
We saw Kenney in September 2017 and said, “ Seattle born and Oakland based multi-instrumentalist Madeline Kenney started the show, a little later than advertised. Since starting later, Kenney (with help from a drummer and bassist) only played a shorten set. Using vocal loops and tricks, Kenney started her set with ‘Don't Forget // There's Room’, and mostly stuck to playing her latest release Night Night At The First Landing (Company Records), with the lone exception of a song from last year’s Signals EP.”
We’ve seen Wye Oak quite a few times, but only recently did the Flock of Dimes debut tour started in Oct 2016: “The story behind Flock of Dimes is that it started in 2012 when Jenn Wasner moved to Maryland. Flock of Dimes was put on the backburner while Wasner committed to touring and promoting for Wye Oak’s Shriek and Tween (both available on Merge Records). While Wye Oak is more indie rock, Flock of Dimes relies more on experimental synths and beats. It made sense that Wasner decided to put these new songs in a new band, instead of trying to work them in as Wye Oak songs.”
Kenney and Wasner have also announced a new West Coast co-headlining tour this April 2019.
