UK 2 tone ska legends The Specials will be stopping by First Avenue this June 7th. The Specials, along with The Beat, Selecter, and Madness, have influenced a generation of ska bands.

The band was recently declared May 29th as “The Specials Day” in Los Angeles, and deservingly so. The new album Encore is the first album since 1980 and it went straight to #1 in the UK Charts.

London’s L.A. Salami will open the show. If you remember, we saw the singer in Mar 2018 and said, “Coming on stage to an extended band jam intro, L.A. Salami (short for his full name Lookman Adekunle Salami) confessed that he’s been “spying from the bar” to survey the crowd. He’s come to the conclusion that we were an “interesting group.” If you couldn’t tell, it was clear that he was pretty happy about the large audience, possibly thanks to his appearance at the popular local station The Current ahead of the show.”

The incredibly popular punk/pop local band Motion City Soundtrack is say goodbye - and with a huge bang: three final shows in Minneapolis. Originally, only one date was announced, but as soon as that sold out, they quickly added another date, and so on... even forcing former giant Eve 6 to move their show to the Cabooze (06/28) to accommodate for MCS. Of course, all the MCS shows are sold out.... at this rate, they might as well play until the end of June!

SXSW 2012 Preview, Part 2

Read More SXSW The massive music+interactive+movies festival drew over 2,000 plus bands in the area. This year is supposed to be the "biggest yet".

SXSW starts on March 9th, but the music portion doesn't actually kick in until March 14th. Anyway, this will be the last preview of SXSW 2012, considering that I'm about to die from all the SXSW spam I am getting. Hopefully Dan and Brody will be doing some coverage for us. If you would like to send us updates, let me know, I'm more than happy to republish any shows you attend.

This Under the Radar Magazine SXSW showcase looks like a lot of fun. If I were going, I would totally see Love Language, Chairlift, and La Sera. All three shows are at Flamingo Cantina at 6th and Red River, with PRS Guitars co-sponsoring all three days.
