This double-headline bill of BulletBoys (featuring lead vocalist Marq Torien) and Tracii Guns (who originally formed L.A. Guns) will be taking place at GB Leighton's Pickle Park in Fridley, Minnesota.

The funny thing about LA Guns is that they originally merged with Hollywood Rose ultimately forming the original Guns N' Roses. Of course, LA Guns would later reunite (without Tracii Guns), which lead to Guns forming The Tracii Guns Band in 2006, so officially there are two bands billing themselves as LA Guns (which would explain why there is another "LA Guns" band listed for Lakefront Music Festival).

Killer Bee set to open the show, look for their new album, The Eye in the Sky, due out later this year.

Local (but originally formed in Los Angeles in 2004) Tattooed Millionaires also on the bill.

If that is the case, then expect a very intimate show with her. Mandell is currently on tour for her new album Let's Fly a Kite, out now on Yep Roc Records.

The Ballad Of Willy Robbins Mama Bird

Opening up for her will be Vikesh Kapoor, currently based in rural Pennsylvania. He's currently on tour in support of The Ballad Of Willy Robbins, which came out October 15th, 2013, via Mama Bird Recording Co. The Boston Globe described Kapoor as "chamber-folk arrangements flush with strings and pedal steel".

Catch both Kapoor and Mandell on this Winter's tour; they are stopping by St Paul at the Turf Club this Valentine's Day.

Originally Delorean were scheduled to appear in Minneapolis last October 14th, but due to Visa kidnapping* problems, they had to reschedule to play this February 14th, Valentine's Day.

The Barcelona based dance-pop band are touring in support of their new album Apar out now on True Panther Sounds. XLR8R called Apar, "an alternately bright and wistful record that both broadens Delorean's palette and presents its sound with a new, crystalline studio sheen that suits the music nicely."

A Taste Of Silver Republic

Opening up the show is Cardiff's Pete Lawrie Winfield, aka Until The Ribbon Breaks. The Welshman is currently touring in support of his debut EP A Taste Of Silver, out now on Universal/Republic Records. His music is noted as sounding like Primal Scream and Massive Attack, which are not bad bands to be compared to.

Eleni Mandell returned to Minneapolis, at the 7th Street Entry, last night, August 1st.

France Camp

Opening were two local bands, France Camp and Painted Saints. I liked the former a little more because they had such a naïveté about them. They were four young people who wore tighty tight jeans and played southern cow-rock. They ended their set with "Lets Roll."

Painted Saints

Painted Saints had more music equipments than they had people. We're talking three guitars, upright bass, violin, banjo, steel lap guitar, clarinet, and a drum kit. Not to mention the two oversized foot pedal boards and their own amps. It's got to suck when they tour.

In stark contrast, Eleni Mandell took the stage with nothing but a blue dress and her small guitar. The last time I saw Mandell at the Cedar, she had a full band.

Do I prefer a full backing band? There are pros and cons. The good part is that it's suddenly a conversation between Mandell and her fans. There's more flexibility and her set list was suddenly not set in stone.

The bad news? I honestly really miss the percussions. There's something to be said about a constant beat to keep on track to the song.

I did actually prefer to Mandell by herself, because it seems to me that it intimate and that really made her talk a lot more.

If you look over the set list, she did start off with "Moonglow, Lamp Low," and kept to the set list until my favorite double-wammy "Artificial Fire," followed by "Pauline." After that she did "Soul Truck" as a request, and back to the new album (I Can See The Future) with "Bun In The Oven" and "Magic Summertime."

I think she sensed that people probably want to hear their favorites and then took requests. There were twenty songs shouted out. She seems so thankful that people even knew her songs.

The last couple of songs she did were "Moment That You Had," "My Twin," and "I'm Lucky." Quickie encore included "Afternoon," and "Wings in His Eyes."

Eleni Mandell is currently wrapping up her solo one-woman tour for her latest album, I Can See The Future. Honestly, Mandell is one of the best lyrical songwriter today, you can't go wrong by checking her out live. You'll quickly see why her fans are a dedicated lot that knows all her songs.

It's a chilly night. Come on Minnesota, it's very late March, why am I still wearing a jacket? Even Eleni Mandell admitted that she hoped to survive her travel through the midwest due to a possible upcoming blizzard (tomorrow).

Haley Bonar - The Queen Of Everything

We'll get to Mandell later, first up was folkster Daniel Martin Moore (danielmartinmoore.com/myspace) with his acoustic guitar and collection of friends (including the world's quietest drums). Highlight from his set is his cover of "Smile" - originally composed by Charlie "The Tramp" Chaplin song, but made famous by Nat King Cole in the mid-50s. Moore's version features a piano, played by his brother, who apparently lives in Minnesota.

The other highlight was a secret appearance by Haley Bonar (haleybonar.com/myspace) who showed up to sing backup. People may remember that I personally chose Bonar's song, "The Queen Of Everything", to represent a bunch of wonderful Minnesota bands and singers.

The thing about the Cedar Culture Center is that every time I go here, it seems the audience are all NPR members. Sometime there are young people, but not tonight. This is not a knock against the Cedar, it's just a warning for you to expect a pretty low-key, sit-down night. The benefit is that instead of a noisy bar atmosphere, the venue is perfect for actually listening to the band as they play. And every noise and note can be heard... So yeah, a wonderful place to hear the band.

Eleni Mandell took the stage with her guitar and played two songs solo (which are actually not listed on the official set list), before being joined on stage by the rest of the band.

Half way into "Artificial Fire", Nigel had problems with his bass... which lead to about 10 minutes of awkwardness as the Cedar sound guy ran backstage to get another bass guitar. This lead to Mandell talking about how they've been on the road since 7am from Chicago, Illinois.

Mandell remained talkative at certain songs, explaining how she tried to kiss this man, who pulled back and had no idea she was in love with him. She called the song "Tiny Waist", after something he had said to her.

They mostly stuck to new songs (because she loved them so much), with a few exception. I thought "Pauline" (from her 2000 album Thrill) sounded amazing towards the end.

It should also be noted that Jeremy Drake is a very excellent guitarist, with his wonderful guitar-playing and foot pedals and warped/spacey sounds.

Eleni Mandell's latest album is Artificial Fire and it was released last Tuesday on Zedtone Records. With already six albums under her belt, she's amassed quite a few fans - particularly in Canada and France.

I felt the cover artwork (in addition to songs like "I Love Planet Earth" and "God Is Love") had an out-of-this world feel to it, black background with spiraling dots. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, the only credit to the artwork are "dots" by Alia Penner. You can see a sketch of it on her website.

Most of the album is pretty mellow, despite having a full band of guitar/bass/drums and the occasional horns and wind instruments. If you're into mild girl singer/songwriter-type of music, this is probably up there with the best of it.

The one "loud" songs are "Cracked", a song about losing faith in God because of someone's betrayal? "I'm cracked for you, my soul has been twisted. I'm cracked for you, my heart has been blistered." The song has a punk-ish attitude, which is what I liked about it.

The more I think about Mandell, her singing reminds me a bit of PJ Harvey, especially with "Pauline" from her album Thrill, and especially on the opening song "Artificial Fire".

"Artificial Fire" is a wonderful little song that doesn't seem to go anywhere, despite all the directions and maps and questions in the lyrics. That guitar-playing is very catchy as well! Mandell liked the song so much, they made a little music video for it.

Hey, she's on tour! It looks like she's coming to Minneapolis, at one of my current favorite sit-down venue, The Cedar this late March. I may do more writeup of her if I end up going to see her.
