A Couple of Couples. Apologies to all other duos I've missed (these are just some of my emails from July 12 to July 18).

MIDDLE CLASS RUT
ww.mcrut.com
I have this EP from Middle Class Rut, aka MC Rut, from 2008 called
MC Rut EP, how time flies. They are set to release a limited edition 10-inch vinyl called
Hurricane tomorrow. Based on the cover artwork - man, it looks tough. Which is really weird, because it's actually a cover of Bob Dyan's song.
Middle Class Rut are a Sacramento-based rock duo, Zack Lopez and Sean Stockham, both of these guys were previously in the Dreamworks-signed band,
Leisure.
Anyway, MTV named this band (Middle Class Rut) "2011 Artist to Watch" and they were recently featured on USA Today's "On the Verge" feature, it looks like this band is about to supernova. By all accounts, this band is supposed to be "amazing" live, so if you're going to Vans Warped Tour, be sure to check them out:

TASSEOMANCY
tasseomancymusic.com
Tasseomancy are two sisters (Sari and Romy Lightman), with an album called
Ulalume, out August 30th from
Out of This Spark Records.
Like me, you probably had to look up 'tasseomancy'. It's a fortune-telling method using patterns in tea leaves, etc.
Since I like harmonies and
Julee Cruise, I have added this album to be reviewed here.
BONUS: These two girls are from also touring band members of Canadian band, Austra (who actually just released their debut album,
Feel it Break on May 13, 2011). And in Austra news, the album comes with a
Sparkle remix collection - out July 26th (digitally) and on 12" vinyl on August 23rd (
preorder). You can preview it by downloading
"Spellwork" remixed by NY duo MNDR.
They are, of course, on tour:

ME & LP
meandlp.tumblr.com
ME (Matthew Embree) and LP (Lisa Papineau) met at a collaborate performance at a gallery opening for artist Sonny Kay. The two liked working together so they began working on some songs, and the result is a six-song EP called
Chez Raymond to be out on August 9th via Sargent House Records.
The main song they want you to check out is "La Belle Tocade" (The Beautiful Fad?), which you can download:
ME & LP: La Belle Tocade
The video (
youtube), shows the duo in a variety of costumes: from fruits to animals to cross-dressing. Looks like they had a great time filming the video.
DEVOLUTION
www.facebook.com/wearedevolution
Don't really know much about this band, other than that they're two guys: Pete Devereux and Tom Devos. They have a debut single called "Good Love", out on August 29th via One More Tune/Warner Brothers Records.
So why should you pay attention to DEVolution? Apparently, the two have come from hit bands, Devereux is from Artful Dodger (another duo act), who scored five top 10 hits (sold over 1.5 million singles) and music producer, Devos, is from Size Records.
You can preview the single at
Soundcloud.com.
CHASE & STATUS
chaseandstatus.co.uk
Chase (Saul Milton) and Status (Will Kennard) are releasing a new single, "Hitz", featuring Tinie Tempah, on July 18th, via Mercury Records. Digital iTunes bundle will include the official single and exclusive remix featuring Wretch 32 and additional remixes by 16Bit and Delta Heavy.
The release is hot off of their "Time" single (featuring Delilah) and "Blind Faith" (featuring Liam Bailey), both tracks were high on the charts.
The duo's second album,
No More Idols debut #2 on the charts, just right under Adele. They have announced their Autumn tour, which many of them are sold out.

BOY + KITE
boypluskite.com
Actually, this band is four people (Darvin Jones, Beth Puorro, Giuseppe Ponti, and Chris Mietus), but they were originally just Jones and Puorro (wonders if Jones is the boy and Puorro is the kite?).
The description I got was that they sound like
Goo-era Sonic Youth but with sweet harmonies, which actually sounds pretty awesome. Check out the free track, "Think in Stereo":
Their debut album,
Go Fly will be out July 26th, 2011.
AUTOKRATZ
autokratz.com
autoKratz are two fancy dressed guys, David Cox and Russell Crank. They are based in London, but signed to French label Kitsuné Music.
Having paid their dues remixing a ton of well-known artists (La Roux, Alex Gopher, Fischerspooner and Underworld), they released their
Down & Out In Paris & London in 2008 and
Animal in 2009. They've remained relatively under the radar, but finally this year saw the release of
Self Help for Beginners (the press release I have lists a release date of September 27th, but you can get the album digitally on their official website).
A special
The Opposite of Love EP will be released digitally on July 30th, 2011.
PEPPER RABBIT
myspace.com/pepperrabbit
Pepper Rabbit are a Los Angeles duo (Xander Singh and Luc Laurent), and they are on tour with Braids (I've previously
written about Braids here). The upcoming tour will be to promote their album,
Red Velvet Snow Ball, to be released August 9th, 2011, via
Kanine Records (which you can apparently grab a free MP3s at
Stereogum).
In other free news, apparently
Noisetrade.com is offering their debut album,
Beauregard for your zip code and an email address. I did download it, it's not a scam (unlike some of Noisetrade's programs where you had to get three of your buddies to give them their email address...)

ELIKA
www.elikamusic.com
I interviewed Elika a few years ago on
W♥M#035. They've released a few albums since then (including 2010's
Snuggle Bunnies), and they're working on a new fourth album, to be out this Autumn 2011 on 180 gram vinyl and CD by Saint Marie Records.
They remind us that their store is up and running and currently offers some limited edition T-Shirts, new stickers, and, of course, CDs.
Also, Elika did three remixes recently: "In Praise of More" by the Engineers, "Half-Truth" by Dead Leaf Echo, and "Fireflies" by The Spiracles.
