We are always made welcomed whenever we stop by the
400 Bar, so here are some upcoming shows.
If you are attending one of these shows, come by and say hi. Myself, Lara, Amy, or Emily, might be at one of these shows (possibly more when future shows are announced). If you want to stalk us, here is a crude drawing of Vu-Bot the Cover Lover and Lara the "adorkable" Andorkian for reference.
Anyway, just a little background, the 400 Bar originally was a small elongated venue. They expanded to the next store over and double their space.
Just recently, like in the past few months, they added the wall back, and now there is a bar area and the venue area. They also shortened the stage, so now there is a bigger dance floor. If you haven't been to the 400 in a while, you should definitely check out a show to see the differences for yourself.
Below are some bands coming to the 400 Bar:
THE QUICK AND EASY BOYS
thequickandeasyboys.com
Emily is going to cover the Quick & Easy Boys for us, they are stopping in the 400 Bar on May 11th.
The band is from Portland, Oregon, and, according to their biography, they are a bit of everything (from funk to psychedelic rock, to garage-soul).
The tour is to promote their sophomore full-length album,
Red Light Rabbit, which just came out a few years ago via Per Capita Records.

THE ROYALTY
theroyalty.net
The Royalty is a new band from El Paso, Texas, with their debut album,

MTV Buzzworthy said they sound like "Amy Winehouse went on holiday with Vampire Weekend."
You can catch them on their tour, with Minneapolis being on their schedule this May 14th. Unfortunately, I've already agreed to cover another band that night, so I'm looking around for a substitute to go in my stead.

KURT VILE
kurtvile.com
Kurt Vile is the founding member of The War on Drugs. Although the band is still around, Vile left the band in 2008. Not really sure the reason for the split, but I've read that he's still friends with former members of The War on Drugs.
Vile's released a few solo albums, on various labels (Mexican Summer, Woodsist), but he's currently home at one of my favorite label,
Matador Records (this is the label that distributed Belle & Sebastian to the states and originally signed Cat Power and a ton of other music I love).
Anyway, he's on tour. Amy is covering his show at the 400 Bar this May 22nd (Morrissey's birthday!)
If you want to check out his solo music, you can currently grab "Baby's Arm" as a free download on his official website. The song is taken from his latest 2011 album,
Smoke Ring for My Halo, via Matador. Bonus, if you download the album through
amazon.com, you get a bonus song and a bonus price ($5)! Cheap!

RAH RAH
rahrahband.net
You know my theory about repeating band names - they are easy to remember (just like Duran Duran, Ra-Ra Riot, Gang Gang Dance, Tapes 'N Tapes, etc). If you have three words, it's even better. Like Dark Dark Dark and Yeah Yeah Yeahs!
Anyway, this Canadian band is coming out with a new 7" called "Little Poems" out on June 12th. The two tracks ("Little Poems" and "I Could Tell You I'm Sorry") are not available from their new LP. I'm not sure if the songs will be available from their forthcoming studio album
The Poet's Dead, coming out this fall via Hidden Pony Records. I guess we'll wait and see.
Tour dates are as follows:
May 25 - Saskatoon, SK @ Amigo's
May 29 - Winnipeg, MB @ The Lo Pub
May 30 - Minneapolis, MN @ 400 Bar
May 31 - Chicago, IL @ Double Door
June 2 - Sarnia, ON @ Sarnia Artwalk*
June 3 - St Catharines, ON @ The Mansion House
June 7 - New York, NY @ Arlene's Grocery
June 13 - Ottawa, ON @ Mavericks
June 14 - Hamilton, ON @ This Ain't Hollywood
June 15 - Toronto, ON @ The Dakota (NXNE, Hidden Pony Records showcase)
June 16 - Montreal, QC @ Le Divan Orange (St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival)

YOUNG MAGIC
youngmagic.bandcamp.com
Young Magic is three beautiful people from New York City. According to their biography, they are heavily influenced by West African rhythms, a little hip-hop, some UK "bass" (there is a whole music festival devoted to "bass music", which I'm assuming is like D&B only without the 'D') and 60s psychedelic soul.
Their debut album,
Melt, came out on V-Day 2012 in the US and just recently (March 30th) in Australia/New Zealand.
As you can see from their massive tour schedule, the band doesn't believe in resting. They are stopping by the 400 Bar on July 9th with Quilt (a band that we
previously covered).
Trivia: the cover artwork is by artist
Leif Podhajsky.

DESAPARECIDOS
desaparecidosband.com
Conor "Bright Eyes" Oberst have reunited with Desaparecidos. The band, who haven't been on tour since 2002, just recently played their hometown of Omaha - where they unveiled two brand new songs ("Left is Right" and "Backsell"). You know what that means; a possible new album is in the works.
So far, only a few Desaparecidos tour dates have been announced, of course, Oberst agreed to play at the 400 Bar (if you've read my previous articles, you know that Oberst has a relationship with the owner of the 400 Bar and will always honor their friendship by stopping by if they're in Minneapolis). Like previous shows, I think this one will sell out. I have seen many sad faces asking for tickets at these Saddle Creek shows - so do yourself a favor and preorder tickets when they are available for sale.
