Christopher Owens will be back in town to support his latest Chrissybaby Forever, out now on Turnstile.

In a recent interview with Stereogum, Owens discussed his return to his roots, "What I wanted to touch on with this record was more in keeping with the Girls ['Album'] – the beginning, the root stuff. The stuff I played by myself. The album was made with me and my best friend: just a musician and engineer producing. There are limitations, and those can be good things. My solos aren't going to be as fancy, but they're going to sound like me. Those were things I wanted to try again."

Local bands Suzie (Mark Ritsema) and Spooky Ghost (duo Jesse Pedersen/Spooky J) will open the Minneapolis show.

This is the second night for My Morning Jacket at the Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis. While Friday's MMJ show featured local Hippo Campus, Saturday's support will come from Lizzo.

My Morning Jacket are currently on tour for their seventh full-length album The Waterfall out now on ATO Records/Capitol Records. Entertainment Weekly called the album "richest album yet" and The New York Times said, "a hunk of substantiation for a believing fan base."

The first time I saw The Kooks, it was in Chicago in 2007, and it was because their small tour did not include Minneapolis... which I noted that I saw three Minneapolis people in Chicago, just to see The Kooks.

What I wrote about them in 2007 was that they stole their name from a David Bowie song, and at the time only had one album Inside In/Inside Out... so as expected, they basically played the entire album live:

The Brighton band is back in the States, supporting their fourth studio album Listen, which came out 8 September 2014 via Virgin EMI Records. This is the band's first album to feature new drummer Alexis Nunez who joined in 2012.

Halsey (stagename for Ashley Frangipane) has a debut EP Room 93 is set for release on October 28th via Astralwerks. W♥M fans will know that I have a personal love for all-things Astralwerks, so I will definitely be paying attention to this New Jersey girl.

Portland's Priory is currently on tour with The Kooks. The duo (Brandon Rush and Kyle Sears) met in a flophouse in Portland... and the two had a hit with "Weekend" (Warner Bros.), which debut strong on the alternative radio charts for its first week. TIME dubbed them as 'Artist You Should Be Listening To Right Now.'

Playing this Saturday, October 4th, is Christopher Owens at the Turf Club in St Paul. Opening up the show will be Liam Hayes is Chicago composer and performer.

Laura, who caught Owens in Minneapolis last year, described the show as covering his entire discography of recorded music: Girls' 'Album', 'Broken Dreams Club', & 'Father, Son, Holy' Ghost', as well as his own 'Lysandre'.

For this 2014 tour, it would seem that he has a new album A New Testament, which came out September 30th.

Portland's Wampire's new album Bazaar is coming out October 7, on Polyvinyl Records, but I believe you can stream it now via Noisey. You can probably bet money that the duo will be playing tracks from the new album when they stop in at 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis this Otober 4th.

Christopher Owens, the songwriter and singer from the now defunct and highly acclaimed indie band Girls, made an appearance at Icehouse on Tuesday night. Adorning the stage was a beautiful bouquet of white lilies in a vase to his right. Shuffling onto the stage and with only a word or two, immediately started right into his set.

With complete reverence, at times I felt as if the crowd at Icehouse didn't know whether they should clap or cheer or be completely silent after each song Christopher played. Given that it was just Christopher, his classical guitar and his ultra-quiet singing voice, I don't blame them. It was hard, at times, to know what he wanted or expected. I got the feeling he just had the urge to come and play his stripped-down songs in each city he passed through, regardless whether or not there were people to play them to or not. Even the bar did its best to remain as quiet as possible, with as little clanking of glasses and other drinkware as possible.

Icehouse was decently populated, too, which was a comforting reality. People have enjoyed the music Christopher Owens has outputted since Girls' first release 'Album' in 2009, and it's no surprise they were still waiting in wonder to this day to see what he still has to offer. Last July he announced his departure from, and consequencing dissolution of, the band Girls. They were wildly popular from their beginnings in 2008, until his announcement of last summer. He started feeling the need to take his songwriting to the next level and not have to rely on a band, including not having to teach and re-teach songs to new members of his touring band.

Over the course of the night, he played around 25 songs, encompassing nearly his entire discography of recorded music: Girls' 'Album', 'Broken Dreams Club', & 'Father, Son, Holy' Ghost', as well as his own 'Lysandre'.

At first, the night felt a bit awkward. Without the usual background chatter and bar/dinner sounds of Icehouse, the crowd was completely silent and engaged. I get the feeling this may have made Christopher feel a bit uneasy, as he may not have expected such a well-mannered crowd. Once he started playing well-known Girls songs such as 'Ghost Train' and 'Laura', the crowd eased up a little at least started cheering with enthusiasm at the ends of each one. At times I felt that if people were more involved and even given in to singing along to songs, it may have given Christopher a bit of a boost to project his voice more as he sang. Had it not been for the reverence of the crowd, his voice may have been completely inaudible and lost in the ambience of the venue.

Playing for nearly an hour and half straight through, with almost no stage banter, highlights of the night included the songs 'Honey Bunny', 'Hellhole Ratrace', 'Summertime' (a personal favorite of his/Girls'), Heartbreaker', 'Lust For Life', 'Saying I Love You', 'Oh My Love', including a cover of Nat King Cole's 'Smile'. He ended the set with 2011's 'Love Like a River', the second to last song off 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost'. Before exiting the stage, he offered up the vase of lilies to the table sitting directly in front of him, a seemingly sweet gesture of gratitude.

Most of his renditions of Girls songs fell a bit flat, missing the added oomph all the instrumentation on the albums contribute, yet on their own sounded intimate and quite beautiful in their own right. His lyrics are impossibly personal and simple, but incredibly effective and emotive. Given Minneapolis was just a few dates into his solo tour, others experiencing him further down the road may encounter a more personalized ...more onstage chatter or even song suggestions from fans in the crowd.

I do enjoy the new direction his music is taking. He didn't play as many off his solo album 'Lysandre' as I was expecting, but all his Girls' songs surely made up for it and were a hit with the crowd in attendance. Catch him on the rest of his tour.

Caveman's first release "Coco Beware" reached my ears in early 2012 and I knew from that point on that they'd not only be a personal favorite of mine, but affect other people similarly. I got the chance to see them a month or so after hearing it and their live show did not disappoint. I caught them at the Urban Lounge in Salt Lake City, UT and I was maybe only one of 20 others at the show. Despite the disappointing attendance, their live show solidified my enthusiasm about them and their unique sound.

Since that show, they have released a new album that is titled simply "Caveman". It continues with their mellow, melodic and pretty brand of indie rock that never gets old to my ears. It seems to perfectly pick up where "Coco Beware" left off and boost them on their upward trajectory into fame. The album has had only positive reviews and you can experience their songs live at the Fine Line Music Cafe on June 29, in support of the popular band Rogue Wave.

Man or Astro-Man? I really love that name, even though it sounds dumb. I've seen the band name in the 90s but haven't seen it around for a while. That's probably because their last album, a tour-only album called A Spectrum of Finite Scale was twelve years ago. The Alabama surf band is back with Defcon 5...4...3...2...1 (coming out on June 18, 2013, on Communicating Vessels/Chunklet) and will be heading out on tour in support of it.

I have been a huge fan of Christopher Owens' previously fronted band, Girls, since they broke out in public acclaim in 2008. I was really bummed a year ago when I learned they broke up, but hopeful when he announced he was going to be writing songs on his own. Fast forward six months with the release of Owens' "Lysandre". His sound shifted completely from Girls, which tended to lean more towards edgy, surfy 70s style rock. "Lysandre" has a more polished sound overall, including more subdued vocals from Owens' and the addition of horn instruments, etc. Overall, it seems to suit his shift to solo songwriting and I am excited to see him perform his new songs at Icehouse in Minneapolis on June 11th.

Christopher Owens is touring in support of "Lysandre", a collection of songs about a lover he met while on tour with Girls in 2008. The songs are heartfelt and evocative; really showcasing his ability to write personal lyrics without them coming off as cheap or silly. He will perform the songs solo on an acoustic guitar, and I imagine the night will be quite intimate.

Tickets for the show are $15 (both in advance and day of) and the show starts at 10 pm. You'll want to get tickets ahead of time, as space at Icehouse can be a bit limited. Find tickets here.

"East Coast Girl" is the new song and video from Cayucas, previously known as Oregon Bike Trails. The video premiered today (05/30) on NYLON.

"East Coast Girl" video directed by Steven Andrew Garcia, talks about the music and his work, "Cayucas have a dynamic that just works. Zach's a great songwriter and their talent really shines through on the new album. We all took a road trip to San Luis Obispo, stayed at a hotel together, and worked out one shot at a time."

The song is taken from Cayucas' debut album, Bigfoot, which came out last month on Secretly Canadian. All of the critics thinks it's a great "summer" soundtrack, for example: AllMusic praised it as "a soundtrack to shared memories of summer," FILTER called it "should be added to your playlist of summer hits immediately," and The Guardian said, "endless summer pop." Who can argue with that?
