Duluth's Charlie Parr has a residency on Sunday evening at the Turf Club in St Paul for the month of January. Additional details at turfclub.net:

Charlie Parr is a roots musician like no other today. The Minnesota musician has built a frenzied following of fans around the world with his energetic performances and 12 records. On his 13th album and Red House Records debut, Stumpjumper, Charlie showcases his blistering finger-picking as he switches between acoustic guitar, dobro and banjo — and keening, cut-through-the-crowd vocals that resonate with a conviction that runs deep and true. It’s the music of a self-taught guitarist and banjo player who grew up with his dad’s recordings of America’s musical founding fathers, including Charley Patton and Lightnin’ Hopkins, Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly. His heartfelt and plaintive original folk blues and traditional spirituals don’t strive for authenticity: they are authentic.

Joining him for Sunday, January 10th's show will be Amanda Standalone.

Show Me The Body is a band based in Queens, New York, and part of the Letter Racer collective.

The band recently announced their debut UK tour (see listing below).

Opening up the Minneapolis show will be locals Blood Cookie. The trio recently opened up for Radkey and was Honorable Mention in 2014's "Are You Local?" contest from Vita.mn.

UK-based metal band Venom's original members Jeff "Mantas" Dunn (guitar) and Anthony "Abaddon" Bray (drums) have rejoined forces with ex-Venom bassist/vocalist Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan in a brand new band called Venom Inc.

The band made their live debut as Venom Inc. in April 2015 at the Keep It True Festival in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany, performing a full set of Venom classics and played to over 30,000 people at Heavy Montreal last August. Venom Inc. took to the streets early this past Fall on the lengthy Iron And Steel European Tour before closing the year with a Latin American live takeover.

Expect the trio to play from three of their albums: Prime Evil (1989), Temples Of Ice (1991) and The Waste Lands (1992), plus some extras.

You may recall that we caught Shana Cleveland when she was on her solo tour at Bryant Lake Bowl Theater in June 2015.

Cleveland and her all girls band La Luz will be back in town at the 7th Street Entry on Monday, September 7th... touring in support of their latest Weirdo Shrine (Hardly Art).

The new second album came out August 7th, and its goal was to capture the band's restless live energy and commit it to tape, with the help of producer/engineer Ty Segall.

Opening up for them will be Strange Relations.

The Dream Boys are back! After a seven year hiatus, Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes and Josh “Baby Duck” Homme are cranking the volume to 11, slipping into their tightest denim and ready to rock the masses with a brand new Eagles of Death Metal release, Zipper Down. The album, to be released October 2nd on Downtown Recordings, should be another crazy-fun offering of cheeky boogie-woogie-inspired rock from the guys but I spy a few surprises: a Duran Duran cover, “Save a Prayer,” and a Hughes tune, “Oh Girl,” originally on his excellent solo album 2011’s Honkey Kong. Homme doesn’t often tour with the Eagles on account of commitments to his other band (maybe you know them? Queens of the Stone Age?), but Hughes more than makes up for his absence. There’s a reason Hughes’ nickname is “Boots Electric” as this guy is such a wild and energetic performer - his idol is Little Richard and it shows!

Show up to the gig early to catch another high desert delight: Jesika von Rabbit! Von Rabbit is, as Coachella Weekly described, “part pop princess parody, part desert gypsy” and armed with the voice of a gothed-up Wanda Jackson. After playing for over a decade with electro-pop Gram Rabbit, an LA-based band she formed with guitarist/sampler Todd Rutherford, drummer Jason Gilbert and guitarist/producer Ethan Allen (the name is a play on von Rabbit’s name and that of 60s cosmic-country legend Gram Parsons), she’s treating fans to her first solo album, Journey Mitchell, released on Royal Order records.

Put on your boogie shoes and hit the Varsity on September 9th for a real good time, folks.

The annual Basilica Block Party is this Friday and Saturday, July 10-11. We are really, really excited to see that Weezer will be headlining the first night and Wilco for the second night.

Besides from the two headliners, I'm also excited to see that Matthew Sweet is also on the bill, he was one of my first concert during his Girlfriend tour in 1992. The last time I saw Sweet, it was in 2001.

For the second night, we're most excited to see Jenny Lewis, who has a great new single "She's Not Me" from her latest album The Voyager. The music video featuring Fred Armisen, Zosia Mamet, Leo Fitzpatrick, Feist, and Vanessa Bayer.

California's Ceremony (not to be confused with Los Angeles' The Ceremonies) is currently on tour in support of their fifth studio album, The L-Shaped Man, and will be in Minneapolis next Friday, July 10th.

Singer Ross Farrar explained the album title, "I was speaking to our driver Stephen while on tour, we were talking about men in general and what shape they are...their body type. I said, 'I guess men are in the shape of an L. The torso is straight. Vertical. And then you have the little feet at the end.' There's this painter named Leslie Lerner who was living in San Francisco in the '70s and '80s and made these beautiful paintings. He died on my 21st birthday. A lot of the record is about the similarities in our ideas. In what we're trying to make. Things that have to do with love and losing love."

Opening up the 7th Street Entry show will be Pity Sex from Ann Arbor, Tony Molina from San Francisco, and local Blood Cookie.
