Massachusetts’ Juice headlined the 7th Street Entry on July 9th.

Starting the show was local Minneapolis artist Ashley Groves and her band. The R&B-esque/pop group seems to delighted to be on stage… with the band constantly laughing and smiling. Groves has been singing since she was 12, and it really shows how she can handle belting out songs at the top of her lungs.

Nashville based singer/songwriter Stephen Day was up next. He seems to have some fans in the audience, as they sing back “take you out, treat you right” on his intro song “For Life”.

Day was actually pretty good, balancing heartfelt lyrical songs like “Sour Inside” and keeping the audience happy with a Garth Brooks cover (“Friends in Low Places”) as well as being very interactive with the audience.

After “Tonight”, he asked if anyone in the crowd had any request, and a fan asked for “Autumn Song”, which he played. This is followed by a brand new song (title might not be correct), which had the lyrics “I’m Tired of Working Waking Up Alone”.

Day closed out his set with his single, “Dancing in the Street” (not the famous David Bowie & Mick Jagger song).

Juice closed out the show. I’ve mentioned previously that the band’s biggest problem is their band name. There are over 25 bands with the “Juice” name, and I felt that the name is just not unique enough in this modern day.

Also, as previously mentioned, there’s only six band members (their bio lists seven). I believe, seeing them live on stage, they’re singer Ben Stevens, violinist Christian Rose, guitarist Michael Ricciardulli, guitarist Daniel Moss, drummer Miles Clyatt, and bassist Rami El-Abidin. I believe guitarist Kamau Burton is missing from the live lineup.

The group was happy to be back in Minneapolis, mentioning that this was only their second time in the area (we caught them the first time at 7th Street Entry in September 2018).

The R&B band was still working and playing their self-titled album, but throwing in some tracks from their EP Workin’ on Lovin’.

I have Santa Monica based indie-pop band Cayucas (featuring twin brothers, Zach and Ben Yudin) is back in the area, playing the Turf Club this July 7th. Cayucas’ latest Real Life is out now via Park The Van Records, and the album is said to be about nostalgia. Guitarist Ben Yudin said, “Looking back is on one of our favorite things to talk about. We’re just fascinated by the constant evolution of people, friends from high school and college. It makes for great lyrics and subject matter.”

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Sam Valdez and Minneapolis-based Lucid Vanguard to open. We last heard about Valdez when they announced her debut EP Mirage via Nevado Music in June 2018.

We like the annual Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis, so we always make sure they get the spotlight whenever we do these previews. They always bring in some really good bands, and with every ticket sold, you know the money goes into maintenance and upkeep of the Basilica St. Mary.

Since there are so many bands on the bill, the Basilica Block Party divides the lineup into three stages, a large, medium, and small stage (the papa, moma, and baby bear stages as we like to call it). If you wanted to see all the bands, logistically, it’ll be pretty tough, and you’ll have to miss some songs, as the three stages goes on at different time. Check your time schedule on their website.

The all-day 30th Anniversary Summit Backyard Bash Music Festival is taking place next Saturday, September 10th. The event, headlined by Bob Mould with Bully and Dem Atlas, will cost $30 (advance) and $40 day of the show (cash only).

Since this is a beer event, you must be 21 or over. Kids will be allowed in the festival with an adult accompanying them.
