Ethan Gruska

Gruska played guitar and keys in near blood red darkness at the Cedar, a venue that fit perfectly to this type of slow, introspective music. Songs on his 40-min set included several tracks from Slowmotionary, including ‘Time Is the Healer’, ‘Short Film’, lead single ‘Reoccurring Dream’, and closing song ‘The Valley’.

With her new album Citizen of Glass (Play It Again Sam Records), based on hearing the music with its grand orchestra sound provided by her new band: cellist Charlotte Danhier, bass clarinet/drums Catherine de Blasio, and cellist Kristina Koropecki. The band did an excellent job playing the subtle notes and additional loops (if they had to play several music layers).
Of course, the majority of her set is from Citizen of Glass, which included the title track, ‘It's Happening Again’, ‘Golden Green’, ‘Trojan Horses’, etc.
Any songs from her debut album Philharmonics, undoubtable her most popular record, were well received, including loud cheers for ‘Philharmonics’.
Obel’s final USA date is taking place tomorrow at Stoughton, Wisconsin’s Stoughton Opera House. She (and her touring band) will be taking a much needed break before returning to the road in Paris on May 13th.
