We haven’t seen Beirut since their July 2012, so it’s been a long time. We wrote, “Brooklyn-based band Beirut will be gracing listeners’ ears with the incredible blend of horns, strings, percussion, and electronic sounds to create their wide range of music, from Balkan folk to electronic. Since their debut album Gulag Orkestar in 2006, Beirut has grown on to international fame, garnering over 736,000 fans on Facebook, though I imagine their fan base is much larger.”
Show up early to see Helado Negro, who we saw in June 2016, writing, “Helado Negro (“black ice cream” in English) is the musical alias of South Florida native Roberto Carlos Lange and who has made several trips locally, enough that he should consider getting a second home here. In addition to world-premiering his Island Universe Story here last March, Lange was back in town less than a month ago, to help Devandra Barnhart with his Wind Grove Mind Alone performance at the Walker Art Center last month.”
Helado Negro’s latest album This Is How You Smile, is out now.
