Asa Brebner, the American guitarist, singer, and songwriter for The Modern Lovers has died at the age of 65. When Greg “Curly” Keranen left the band in 1977, he was replaced by Brebner (who would go on to play on The Modern Lovers Live (1978) and Back in Your Life (1979).
Keranen came back and left again (!) in 1984, so the mid-80s Modern Lovers had Asa Brebner rejoining for the tour and recording from 1985-1988.
According to vanyaland.com: “Brebner was credited as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, cartoonist, author, and producer, and in addition to The Chartbusters and his own solo efforts, also played in bands like The Modern Lovers, Mickey Clean & the Mezz, The Grey Boys, The Family Jewels, The Naked I’s, and Asa Brebner’s Idle Hands. No cause of death has been made public.”
