London’s L.A. Salami headlined the 7th Street Entry on Thursday, March 28th.

Opening the show was Cat Clyde, who was previously in town with ZZ Ward in June 2017. The Stratford, Ontario singer/songwriter played selections from her debut album Ivory Castanets (Cinematic Music Group), including “Running Water” and “The Man I Loved Blues”.

Surprised at the good turnout at the 7th Street Entry, Clyde, midway in her set, asked, “What day of the week is it? Thursday? It’s a great Thursday!”

Highlight of the show was when L.A. Salami’s backing band joined Clyde on stage to play “Mama Said”, making for a nice change of pace with a fuller sound to her quieter Americana songs.

Clyde ended her 40-min set with “The River”. Although only released in late 2017, it may be her signature song with its lyrics, “Like the river I roll along. Today I'm here, tomorrow I'm gone”.

Coming on stage to an extended band jam intro, L.A. Salami (short for his full name Lookman Adekunle Salami) confessed that he’s been “spying from the bar” to survey the crowd. He’s come to the conclusion that we were an “interesting group.” If you couldn’t tell, it was clear that he was pretty happy about the large audience, possibly thanks to his appearance at the popular local station The Current ahead of the show.

L.A. Salami’s band consists of Mark Thorneon guitar, Frank Styles on bass, and Danny Brooks on drums, and their music is more on the punky DYI rock (like the Replacements or the Strokes). They basically serve the emphasize or enhance L.A. Salami’s poet-like lyrical songs. Sometime, especially when the harmonica is used, L.A. Salami sounds just like he was channeling Bob Dylan.

While L.A. Salami released a debut album and various EPs, he mainly stuck to playing his forthcoming album The City of Bootmakers (Sunday Best/PIAS Records), such as “Generation L(ost)” and “Who’s Cursing Us Now”... possibly because he is very much excited about the new materials and just can’t wait for people to hear these songs.

The City of Bootmakers was recorded in Berlin with Robbie Moore and its theme and focus seems to be urban welfare (“England’s Unwell”) and education (“Terrorism! (The Isis Crisis)”). A rather smart album, and worth looking into if you’re into poetry set to music.

Lucy Dacus was recently pick of SXSW roundtable from Brody, who said she was incredible. Dacus will be stopping by the 7th Street Entry on Wednesday to promote her sophomore album Historian, available now on Matador Records. The show is sold out.

In an in-depth New York Times feature/interview (at nytimes.com), they cover everything from her outspokenness about about feminism and how she’s always reading about 5 books at a time.

And The Kids and Adult Mom will open the show. We previously saw the former with Highly Suspect in Apr 2017 and noted, “Normally a quartet (Hannah Mohan, Rebecca Lasaponaro, Megan Miller, Taliana Katz), I believe for their live shows, they’re only trio (minus Megan Miller on keys)... as with their previous appearance in April 2016, opening up for Ra Ra Riot.”

Legendary metal band Judas Priest is back in the U.S. to promote their new studio Firepower.

I believe for this tour, former Sabbat guitarist Andy Sneap will be one of the twin guitarist. Judas Priest’s regular guitarist Glenn Tipton announced that he has Parkinson’s disease and have stepped down from performing live… however, having said that, Tipton joined the band on stage perform “Breaking the Law” and some other JP classic songs.

Show up early to check out The Ballroom Thieves, who we saw in May 2015 and wrote, “The Ballroom Thieves, on their second appearance in Minneapolis (previously also billed at Byrant-Lake Bowl), was pleased to see that the room was full this time around. Drummer Devin Mauch, who is celebrating his birthday today (May 14th), said that they originally didn't have Minneapolis on their tour itinerary, but they made the extra effort to put the city back on their schedule. Thanks to word of mouth, there was a really good turn out for the show... especially on a Wednesday.”

Parody songwriter “Weird Al” Yankovic is playing a few nights at the Pantages Theatre. Unfortunately, he will not be playing any hit parody songs such as “Eat It” or the recent fan-favorites “Foils”... instead this so-called “The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour” will just feature Weird Al’s original songs.

The Wolf can have two faces-

One docile, beguiling and seemingly gentle, while the other being dark, ferocious, and relentless, and we saw both of these faces on display as rising UK alt-rock band Wolf Alice played three performances in two days (all in support of their sophomore full-length, Visions of a Life [Dirty Hit/RCA Records]), including to a capacity crowd in the Mainroom at First Avenue.

Coming into town a day early, the North London quartet (Ellie Rowsell –vocals, guitar; Joff Oddie- guitar; Theo Ellis- bass; Joel Amey- drums) scheduled an in-store appearance and meet and greet with their fans at area record store, The Electric Fetus, that brought a large crowd out in the cold English-like rain of late afternoon. 

The performance turned out to be a surprising sit-down acoustic set of four songs, beginning with newest single, ‘Sadboy’ from the new record, followed by ‘Space & Time’. The band took a minute after, to plug their headlining show at First Avenue the following night, humbly saying “it will probably be good”, to crowd laughter.

When someone asked what they had seen of the city so far, “quite a lot of the hotel room” was the reply, also noting their stop at nearby Brit’s Pub for a pint, the authentic UK surroundings there getting them a little homesick. 

The wordplay on the new ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’ by Rowsell was more pronounced in the unplugged format, and the more bare arrangements allowed her voice to soar like a floating bird over the audience, while 2013’s ‘Bros’ became a slowly rolling soundtrack for the cold rain spackling outside, Roswell asking in song, “are you wild like me?”.

The following afternoon, the band reprised that format and three of the four songs, for an in-studio at local public radio station, The Current, streaming here:

For their headlining show, the evening was opened up by another London-originating band, The Big Pink, whose music remains a moody guitar/electro pop blend ,but whose lineup has changed since being originally being a duo.  Now a quartet (Robbie Furze, Lady Mary Charteris, Bradford Lee Conroy, and [not present Nicole Emery]), original member Furze has re-invented the band, adding wife Charteris and is in support of EP Empire Underground (B3SCI Records) and some recent singles. 

The boy/girl vocals on the newer tracks make for a refreshing update to their sound (think Jesus and Mary Chain w/Hope Sandoval-esque), while hits like 2009’s ‘Dominos’ played early on, remain intact as remembered.  Ending their set with 2009’s other single, ‘Velvet’, Furze seems re-energized, particularly singing lines like “I found her in a dream, looking for me, this heart's on fire,” as his wife stands mere feet away.

Fittingly, hoots and howls from the crowd greeted Wolf Alice as they made their way to the stage for their eighty-minute set, playing over half the new album and beginning their set with its two opening tracks, the lifting ‘Heavenward’ and the angst-filled rage of ‘Yuk Foo’, the Wolf baring its teeth early on, and without mercy. 

The band isn’t really one to say much between songs, preferring instead to let the music do the talking and keep the dark, unflinching momentum they work on building throughout, though the smiles from the members indicated their gratefulness for the engaged crowd. 

Rowsell shed her guitar temporarily six songs in, for their self-described “love song”, ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’, speaking “I’d like to get to know you, I’d like to take you out”  like she was talking individually to each member in the crowd, many then wailing along with her, as she wondered aloud, “what if it’s not meant for me?- love”.

The title of the new ‘Beautifully Unconventional’ almost defines the band’s unique identity as a whole, featuring lyric, “She's beautifully unconventional, I love to see her rise above us all” (or maybe the following ‘Formidably Cool’, because they’re that as well). 

The throb of ‘Moaning Lisa Smile’ had the crowd on the floor moving en masse and the new album’s ‘Space & Time’ found everyone clapping along, as guitarist Oddie gradually abused his guitar more and more, shaking it violently and holding it up swinging. 

The two-song encore began by reaching back to the title track of their initial 2013 EP, ‘Blush’, which is mostly the quiet of their loud-quiet-loud sound, the devoted as “punch drunk, dumb struck, pot luck happy happy” to hear it live, as the song lyrics imply.

Refusing to leave any stone unturned (or any face not melted) things ended with the grinding gut punch of ‘Giant Peach’, Rowswell’s and Oddie’s beast-size fierce guitar riffs talking us along on their stalking journey through a “dark and pretty town”.  As the feedback and delay remained snarling, the band waved and left the stage one last time, to cheers, exhaustion, and a sense of awe. 

Look for Wolf Alice to continue their hunt, on the road for most of the summer, playing venues from club-size to massive stadiums, opening for Foo Fighters, with likely a few more acoustic promotional appearances peppered in as well. 

The Wolf has two faces, one deceptively calm but brooding; the other swift, cunning, and showing no quarter, both the faces of an urgent and vibrant band well worth watching how they might strike next.

While not much actual melodrama occurred, there were years of built up anticipation and being a Friday night, a lot of dancing-

New Zealand artist Lorde finally made her Twin Cities area live debut as the Melodrama Tour made a stop in front of over 9,000 people at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. 

The  good thing about this three-act evening was that the early arrivers were awarded with a short but entertaining performance by Swedish dance pop artist Tove Styrke, in support of latest full-length, Sway (RCA/ Sony Records) while the bad news (for other cities) is that this would be her last appearance on the tour. 

Beats and music were minimalistic, though songs like ‘Mistakes’ were undeniably catchy with Styrke even covering the headliner, on her version of Lorde’s ‘Liability;’ calling it “one of my favorite songs in the world” and done mid-set.  “This is a dream come true for me” Styrke gushed, happy that so many had shown up early, swaying in their seats for ‘Change my Mind’ and singing “up, up, up, up” along with Styrke on her closing song about an instant crush, ‘Say My Name’. 

The mood then completely turned harder and darker as hip-hop duo Run the Jewels took the stage for their forty-five minute set, beginning with the not-so-humble intro music of ‘We are the Champions’. “Shouts out to Kirby Puckett- we’re gonna burn this… place to the ground!” Killer Mike decreed, he and rapper/producer El-P stalked the stage as DJ Trackstar worked the ones and twos, beginning with their eponymously-named theme song. 

‘Legend Has It’ from the group’s latest, Run the Jewels 3 (self-released) was played early on, and familiar to many from its use in the Black Panther trailer. “To the parents that brought your children, we’d like to formally apologize’, El-P joked to the soccer mom chaperones, maybe a little put off by the language and lyrical themes, while the rest of the crowd cheered “R-T-J!” as he promised a “blockbuster night” before playing the song of the same name. 

The stage was then laid mostly bare as lights dimmed and the intro music of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up that Hill’ signaled the arrival of Lorde and her dancers for a hundred-minute headlining set in support of second full-length Melodrama (Lava/Republic Records), managing to work in every song from the new record, as well as several older favorites. 

The intro music was appropriate, as the first part of the show resembled a Kate Bush performance, with leotard-clad dancers expressively interpreting the songs through movement both inside and outside of the so-called “terrarium”, a clear-walled shipping container-sized box which rose from the floor and would elevate and swing in the air with cabled support. 

Her trio of backing musicians literally stayed in the shadows for the show, with the artist shedding her flowing coat early, even using the inside of the terrarium for a quick wardrobe change, instead of ducking backstage. “I’ve never been to your part of the world before… there is already such a good vibe in this room.” Before 2013 hit, ‘Tennis Court’ the twenty-one year old born Ella Yelich-O’Connor said “Friday is good because… Friday means we’re gonna dance a bunch!” which the mostly female audience was happy to comply with. 

She reprised her Disclosure collaboration on ‘Magnets’, ‘Ribs’ recounted the anxieties and emotions of her teenage years set at in a party scene, and the crowd dancing got more involved on ‘The Louvre’ ,as Lorde and band “broadcast the boom boom boom”.

A show highlight was when Lorde sat to take an extended break and sing a set of piano-only backed songs beginning with the verse and chorus of Prince’s ‘I Would Die 4 U’, telling a story of meeting him at the Golden Globes and missing (and later regretting) an invitation to one of his legendary late night concerts. Tove Styrke returned to the stage to sit with Lorde for a great duet of a Robyn cover, the two sitting close and hugging affectionately following. 

‘Liability’ was sung for the second time this night, leading to the band returning in full for the somber, organ-driven (sort-of) new album title track, ‘Sober II (Melodrama)’ followed by the infectious ‘Supercut’ with the singer emoting “in my head, I do everything right”.

The last three songs of the main set built increasingly on their own thrill factor- the breakthrough hit ‘Royals’ had everyone singing along, ‘Perfect Places’ invited the audience to come along on a journey, and ‘Green Light’ took things to the next level, with a smiling Lorde dancing about cannon confetti and appropriate green lighting, calling the song a “sort of chemical experiment” as she introduced it. 

The three-song encore started in a revelatory way, with just the singer and her Akai MPD24 MIDI Pad controller (less than $100 on eBay) taking things very back-to-basics, starting with the spelling lesson of ‘Loveless’, then going into the new and unreleased ‘Precious Metals’. 

2013’s ‘Team’ ended things with further crowd dancing and Lorde singing “I’m kind of over getting told to throw my hands in the air ”(which found everyone doing just that, for some reason,“…so there”). “St. Paul, good night, we love you!” Lorde beamed, taking one last bow before dashing off stage. 

With fans still screaming and applauding, Lorde made things worth the five-year long wait to see her live locally, with the crowd and singer sharing those musical moments of being “on each other’s team”.

Australian five-piece Gang of Youths (not to be confused with Gang of Four) is currently selling out a string of U.S. shows, thanks to buzz from SXSW, strong interests in their new album Go Farther In Lightness (Red Music), and appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers to perform their new single “What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?”

We actually got to hear a lot of the new album last year when they appeared at the 7th Street (06 June 2017). One thing is for sure, singer David Le'aupepe almost spoke before every song to tell you what it is about... and it’s clear that he’s very passionate about his songs.

Go Farther In Lightness is out now on limited white vinyl in the U.S., with a CD release of March 30. I’m almost certain you can probably pick up a copy at their upcoming show.

New York’s Public Access TV (not to be confused with the band Public Service Broadcasting) and Montreal’s Common Holly to open.

The former, actually opened up for Gang of Four in 15 March 2015 and was actually the best thing about that show. Public Access TV are really good and should absolutely not be missed on this lineup.

It was a little truth, and a little Dare—

The 7^th Street Entry in Minneapolis hosted a co-headlining show by two of the UK’s most upcoming bands- from Hertfordshire, The Hunna and from Bristol, Coasts as a capacity crowd filled the club on a weeknight.

The three-band evening was opened up not by another UK band, but the sunny electro-pop of Los Angeles duo Courtship. (yes, with the period at the end of their name), who borrowed Coasts drummer for their thirty-minute set.  The twosome of Micah Gordon and Eli Hirsch have played with other acts, but joined together in 2016 and have released a handful of songs so far (‘Bad Fun’ being the latest), en route to an upcoming full-length. 

It was the band’s first time in town and they were well-received on songs like ‘Sun Roof’ and the island   grooved rhythm of ‘Tell Me Tell Me’ (mentioning that the song was written about liking someone, but being rejected) with Hirsch also saying that local station GO 96.3 was the first radio station to play a song of theirs. Despite any dour lyrical content, their sound is unabashedly poppy, positive, and warm filled- an ideal antidote to current news headlines. 

The five-piece known as Coasts then took to the stage for their forty-three minute set, beginning with a short instrumental before giving way to 2015’s ‘Modern Love’ (not the Bowie track, but one on their 2016 self-titled debut full-length [Warner Bros Records]) and properly introducing themselves to the audience.

The quintet (Chris Caines-vocals; Liam Willford-guitar; James Gamage-bass; David Goulbourn- keys; Ben Street -drums) plays anthemic indie-rock that outdistanced the small walls of the Entry, with vocalist Caines displaying a bit of Bono-esque bravado in his stage presence. 

“Last time we played here, there was probably half the amount of people here” Caines said, looking upon the capacity crowd “so that’s f**king great! So, how many of you have seen us before?” Caines asked, “…five people”, he chuffed, taking that as a challenge to make a good first impression to everyone else. ”I’m having the most fun of our little tour, Minneapolis”, Caines admitted after a stirring ‘You’ and people happily clapped along with the infectious ‘A Rush of Blood’.

“Let’s have a jump-around” Caines asked, before ‘Tonight’, singing “you bring me together and my world starts to blur” and Coasts closed their set with their third-ever single ‘Oceans’, a song which dates as far back as 2013, but released here on their 2016 debut. 

After a short break, the amplifiers were turned up and rawk entered the building in the form of The Hunna, in support of their upcoming sophomore full-length, Dare (due May 25 on 300 Ent/High Time Records).  The quartet (Ryan Potter-vocal/guitar; Dan Dorney- guitar; Junate Angin- bass; Jack Metcalfe- drums) plays an aggressive yet melodic blend of indie-rock and it was clear that most of the crowd was there to see them. 

“If you know any of these songs, sing along” singer Potter said ahead of their hour-long set, “let’s have some fun!” as the band began with the lead single from their previous album, ‘You and Me’, also admitting how Minnesota Nice was a true thing, based on everyone they’d met.  ‘Never Enough’ got people singing the chorus back to the band and clapping along, with the group sometimes reaching Biffy Clyro-levels of volume as the song progressed.

“This amount of people, for only our second time here, is incredible” Potter noted, perhaps forgetting they also did a quick unplugged set at the nearby Mall of America’s main rotunda (of all places), on Black Friday Weekend of Nov 2016.  “Put your lights up” Potter said for the slower ‘Sycamore Tree’ which brought cell phone flashlights waving into the air, while the new driving ‘Flickin’ Your Hair’, was a rolling taste of the upcoming album. 

The day before the show, the band had the night off, so managed to go and see the Timberwolves win their basketball game, something they also did the previous time here, Potter said, calling the team their favorite and admitting it to be “one of the greatest days we’ve had, as a band”, asking the crowd to howl the lyrics to ‘She’s Casual’, one of their earliest written songs. 

The title track from the upcoming album would follow, “a little bit meaner” Potter said, certainly one of their crunchiest tracks to date and ‘We Could Be’ was written about all the times they were almost signed to a label, but then not, turning those experiences into a catalyst to do things on their own terms. 

‘You Don’t Want it With Me’ is the latest single from the upcoming album, a bass-driven thunder boomer with classic riff and the band saved time by playing the set-ending ‘Bonfire’ without leaving and re-emerging as an encore, though the crowd refused to leave following it, yelling for another song, though that would be the end.

“We are a long way from home and it does really mean a lot that all of you people are here” Potter would say beforehand, “We’re just four best friends that love playing music together”.

Way Out West returned to the Midwest, and the roots of ‘Mojave’ are actually in Minnesota—

The sold-out Hopkins Center for the Arts played host to an area return performance by Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives for another musically noteworthy night by the country legend and his formidably solid band. 

The venue itself is a sonically sound small theater, located in the downtown of this friendly and quaint Minneapolis suburb, away enough from the metro and the rowdy hub-bub that expectedly comes with a St. Patrick’s Day evening, but still enthusiastic enough to welcome Stuart and band, with loud applause and cheers. 

Stuart and the Superlatives (Kenny “Cuz” Vaughan- guitars; Chris “Professor” Scruggs- bass/slide; “Handsome” Harry Stinson- drums/percussion) are still out in support of last year’s Way Out West (Superlatone Records), one of their best and most varied sounding albums that is a musical love letter to the desert southwest and the group played a more than memorable club show at the Fine Line last year, as the tour was just getting started.  

“Turn the hillbillies loose, it’s Saturday night!” Stuart shouted after the opening ‘Sundown in Nashville’, he dressed in all black as usual, with the band nattily clad in matching powder blue rhinestone suits.  After a scorching ‘Whole Lotta Highway’, tempo slowed a bit so Stuart could introduce his backing trio early, though most in the crowd seemed already familiar with everyone. 

“Who says you can’t go surfing in Minnesota?!” Stuart said after the one-two of ‘Mojave’ and ‘Over the Moon’, disclosing that ‘Mojave’ was composed while the band was in town during their 2016 two-night stint “at the Minn-ah-so-dah State Fair” (in his best local accent).  “So there you have it, it’s a part of you”.

“When you finish listening to the record, you’ll feel like you’ve been on Willie Nelson’s bus for twenty-one days” Stuart remarked about the latest album, “you’ll never have to leave home”.  After a harmonically precise ‘Old Mexico’ (with full band huddled around one mic), Stuart let guitarist Vaughan lead for a couple songs, cutting loose with the rockabilly on his two numbers.

Stuart spoke about his kinship to the Native Americans in South Dakota before ‘Casino’ and paid tribute to Country Music Hall of Famer Grady Martin with ‘El Paso’ a Marty Robbins classic featuring Martin’s guitar, and complicated enough of a song “like learning War and Peace and the guitar part is like Mount Rushmore”, though he and the Superlatives played it as if their own.

Scruggs then took his solo turn, including a request by Stuart to hear the 1946 bluegrass classic ‘Blue Moon of Kentucky’ which Stuart helped out with on mandolin, and Stinson’s turn started with a Woody Guthrie cover, in which he held a note far longer than thought possible for any drummer, to rave applause, then encoring that with a Johnny Horton cover. 

The mandolin is Stuart’s earliest and self-taught instrument and he showcased his formidable skills, by transforming the fiddle classic, ‘Orange Blossom Special’ into a chugging mando version to make one think it was made to only be played in that way. 

As fans of Stuart’s belated weekly variety show on the RFD network know, a gospel portion was always part of each episode and this practice was reprised live with the main set closing, ‘Angels Rock Me to Sleep’, highlighted by soaring multi-part harmonies and a quiet swing to the melodies.  

Stuart and the Superlatives soon returned to the standing ovation crowd, for a four-song encore beginning with an instrumental from the recent album, the surf-rock tinged ‘Torpedo’, revving things up next with a cover from friend and former touring partner, Travis Tritt.

“Clap your hands” Stuart asked, with everyone happily complying to the rolling ‘Tempted’ and ended things for the evening with “one of our favorite songs” from the newest album, ‘Time Don’t Wait’ which started with Vaughan’s brief guitar medley intro, beginning it with the jangle from The Byrds’ ‘Eight Miles High’. 

As a smiling Stuart left the stage to loud applause, the rest of the band remained, launching into the signature instrumental theme from TV’s The Marty Stuart Show to end things rightfully on a high note. 

With Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives piloting the journey, any return trip to way out west and beyond, is more than welcome, and the good news is that the legend and his band continue on the road for most of the rest of the year, including a well-deserved arena-sized outing, supporting Chris Stapleton.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (or shortened to O.M.D.) just headlined First Avenue in Minneapolis on Sunday, March 18th.

Starting the show was DJ Jake Rudh, from Transmission, playing to the crowd with a collection of nostalgic 80s-era British music videos to keep the audience entertained before the first band.

Milwaukee’s Ggoolldd (Margaret Butler, Nick Ziemann, Mark Stewart, and Nick Schubert) was up next. We’ve previously seen the band in October 2016 and knew there was something special about their “singer and dramatic dancer” Margaret Butler. Seeing them with OMD on Sunday night was almost like seeing a completely different band. Butler, now in a bold white unicorn outfit, completely captivated the unsuspecting mostly middle-age audience.

With even more room to dance around, Butler unveiled her light-up swan cape near the end of their brief 30-minute set. They ended their set with “Undercovers”, an upbeat number, but with depressing lyrics: “we are alone, deep under covers.”

You can tell that Ggoolldd is having a great time on this tour with OMD, and, judging from the people surrounding me, that they may have some newfound fans the next time they come back to town.

It’s good to finally get OMD (Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper, and Stuart Kershaw) back in Minneapolis. It’s been a long journey back for this New Wave British band, as the band originally scheduled for July 8, 2013, only to have it pushed back to July 22nd. Then just days before their appearance at the Varsity Theater, their drummer had a heart attack (or as singer Andy McCluskey affectionally puts it, “tried to die”) and the group had to cancel their remaining 2013 tour.

With a new 13th studio album Punishment Of Luxury (White Noise Records), the band promised “some new songs”, but quickly added, “as well as old” to the crowd’s delight.

And indeed, plenty of classic fan-favorite songs were played. Right before “Messages” (from their self-titled debut album in 1980), Andy, breaking out the bass guitar “for the old songs”, asked us, “You did bring your dancing shoes, didn't you? It was on the ticket!”, this was followed by another classic sing-along song “Tesla Girls” from 1984’s Junk Culture.

Of course, who could not love hearing their biggest hit single, “If You Leave”, which many fans probably first heard it on John Hughes’ Pretty in Pink film in 1986. The film soundtrack helped moved OMD’s song to #4 on Billboard Hot 100 that summer. It is the song that many fans came to hear, and as evident, about a hundred cellphones went up in the air to record the moment.

For “Time Zones 2016”/“Of All the Things We’ve Made”, all four band members came to the front of the stage, with simple drum, guitar and handheld electronics. As soon as the song ended, Andy joked, “that’s about as unplugged as we get.”

The band ended their set with their signature song, “Enola Gay”, which Andy graciously thanked their fans, “Thank you SO much- you have been wonderful to play to tonight!... This is your last chance to dance!”

The three-song encore started “Dreaming”. Then afterward, Andy bent forward and pretending to whisper to the crowd before keyboardist Paul Humphreys took the lead vocals for “Secret”.

With the final song, Andy asked the crowd, “Are you tired?” and the crowd screamed back “No!”. Andy continued, “because we do want to play do want to play this song, but it’s so fast- we want to end at the beginning, this is the oldest song we’ve got.” The set-ending song was “Electricity”, which was written in 1979, written when Andy and Paul were both sixteen years old.
