I spend a lot of my time staring at my computer monitor, so I’m always looking to get the best and largest monitor. I don’t mind upgrading my monitor every so often. Although it would be nice to have a 4k monitor, I just couldn’t justify the current prices (ranges from $500 to $1000 for the 27” or larger), so I’m happy to pay less for FHD (Full High Definition, 1080p) vs QHD (Quad High Definition, 1440p ) or UHD (Ultra High Definition, 2160p). I figure by the time 8k becomes the new standard, the 4k (UHD) monitors will be affordable.
Anyway, I actually went to Micro Center, hoping to pick up a used Samsung curved monitor, but the person working there couldn’t locate it. So I wandered around and spotted another monitor in my price range: Acer’s 32" ER Widescreen LED Monitor for $199. I was already quite happy with the cheap 27” Acer monitor from December 2014 (also for $199)... so getting the same brand made a lot of sense to me. According to the details, the new 32” monitor is faster at 4ms vs the old 27” monitor, which lists 6ms. For video gaming, you want a lower response time.
Once again, setting up monitor and stand was quite easy. Everything you need to hook up your monitor is in the box, sans a Philips screwdriver, which you’ll need for four small screws for the stand.
What can I say, it’s not the fastest monitor, it’s not 3D or 4k, lack of speakers, and I’m pretty sure the ER series is an obsolete product, but for the price, I think it’s a great deal.
I played a little bit of Obduction and noticed some ghosting, but this could possibly be fixed with some settings. I’ll test out some more games to see how the display keep up with the images. I have Diablo III with the new Necromancer character and Starcraft with the HD skin, I will test out soon.
