THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS
at First Avenue
Thursday 04/06/2017, 7pm ($25)
first-avenue.com
English rock band The Psychedelic Furs is back in Minneapolis this Thursday, March 6th. We previously caught the Butler brothers (Richard & Tim) in 2013 and noted, “30+ years on, the frontman of legendary alt-rock group The Psychedelic Furs smiled and laughed as he twirled, crouched, and led his band through a joyous 90 min. set in First Avenue’s Mainroom Tuesday night. That obvious affection for what he does is infectious and enhances the overall appeal of seeing any act live; the Furs also no doubt helped by a healthy handful of time-honored radio classics that so many in the audience knew every word to.”
Robyn Hitchcock will be opening the show. The iconic singer is out promoting his 21st studio recording, but first-ever eponymous release. The new record is basically a re-introduction “Robyn Hitchcock” to a new audience. Hitchcock adds, “Think of me as a new act - I'm only 63. People always ask me, where should I start listening to your records? I'm a train with many carriages. I thought, I'll just make this record and if people like this one, then they'll probably like the others. If they don’t, it’s not worth them listening to any of them, really.”
Also on the bill, local DJ Jake Rudh of Transmission to play music videos as we wait for the band.

We haven’t written about Ford since 2014, so it’s good to see that she’s back on tour this year.

DELICATE STEVE
at 7th Street Entry
Saturday 04/08/2017, 8pm ($12)
first-avenue.com
Delicate Steve is back at 7th Street Entry. Delicate Steve’s Anti- Record’s debut album This is Steve (and their first album in four years) is out now.
The last time we saw Delicate Steve, it was in 2012, and we wrote, “Oh Delicate Steve, where do I start? These dudes know how to rock. The guitar band from New Jersey played with the crowd literally last night in New Orleans at the Circle Bar. The last song, the band brought the entire to pack the tiny stage and rock the night away to the crowd favorite "Butterfly". It gets you in that mood of running and jumping in the air at the same time with cowbells and tambourines.”
Double Grave (formerly known as Ego Death) and Waldemar to open.

Other shows in the area:
04/06/17 Liz Vice will be headlining Cedar Cultural Center. Eric Mayson to open.
04/06/17 The Deap Vally ladies will be playing the Icehouse with Birthday Suits. Please note that these Icehouse shows starts at 11:30pm.
04/07/17 The Ferdy Mayne will be playing the Reverie Cafe & Bar. Its single constant member Shane O’Malley Firek was going through a massive change by giving up drinking: “Before my sobriety, I was completely insane, in and out of jail, losing friends and putting myself in considerable debt. I quit drinking around the time I began to perform in New York, and I’ve been sober a little over three years now.” Joining Firek in The Ferdy Mayne band will be Nick Zomparelli on Lead Guitar (Duane The Jet Black Eel, NODATA, Daughters Of Eternity), Nick Rapley on Drums (Ben Clark and The Long Shadows), and David Van Witt on Bass (Sidewalk Dave, Hnry Flwr).
04/07/17 Local riot grrrls Bruise Violet is having their Trophy Wife EP show this night. Show up early to check out other local bands, Catbath, Sass, and Joe Davis and the Poetic Diaspora. $5 gets you in the door.
04/07/17 Elephant Revival will be headlining First Avenue.
Dead Horses to open.
04/08/17
Michigan-based psychedelic pop septet Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers will be headlining the Triple Rock Social Club this Saturday. The band recently released their record Pluto on BaebleMusic.
04/08/17
Grammy Award-nominated artist Tift Merritt is touring in support of her new record Stitch of the World (Yep Roc Records). Merritt will be headlining the Cedar Cultural Center with The Suitcase Junket.
04/09/17 Austin locals Sweet Spirit (members of A Giant Dog) will be headlining the 7th Street Entry this Sunday in support of their sophomore record St. Mojo (out April 7 via Nine Mile Records).
Judging by their 8-member photo, we have to wonder how they will all fit on the tiny 7th Street Entry stage....
General B And The Wiz to open. Also worth noting: seeing as they are friends with Har Mar Superstar by their photos, I would bet to find him at this show.
