LLOYD COLE
at Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant
Friday, 11/18/16, 7:30pm ($35)
dakotacooks.com
English singer/songwriter Lloyd Cole is back in town. He will be headlining the Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant in Minneapolis this Friday. He will be playing a The Retrospective show, playing songs from the classic Lloyd Cole songbook 1983 – 1996.
While we’re all big fans having followed his work as Lloyd Cole and the Commotions in the 80’s, younger fans may know him from Scottish band Camera Obscura song called ‘Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken’ (in reference to Cole’s hit song ‘(Are You) Ready to Be Heartbroken?’ )

THE SOUNDS
at Fine Line Music Cafe
Friday, 11/18/16, 7:30pm ($20)
finelinemusic.com
I remember the first time I saw Sweden’s The Sounds cover to Dying to Say This to You in 2006, I simply thought it was just the sexiest cover artwork I’ve ever seen. I even wrote about how sexy the cover was in 2007: “This is perhaps the sexiest album cover art I've seen in a long time. You get this feeling of a hot Summer's night at a bar or a club in New York... these two girls are with friends and just very casually whispering some secret to each other... In case you're wondering, the cover girl on the left is Leigh Lezard, a DJ at a scenester's club called MisShapes. The girl on the right is Alexis Page, who is apparently a Morrissey fan judging from her "Certain People I Know" quote.”
The photographer of that cover was the Sounds’ singer Maja Ivarsson.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 10 years since the iconic album came out, and The Sounds will be playing that record on this 10th Anniversary tour.
Joining the Sounds will be Zipper Club and My Jerusalem, per the band’s request. The latter band is from Austin, Texas, and is touring in support of A Little Death, which came out in June via Washington Square Music. My Jerusalem was previously in town with Eliot Sumner in October 2016.
As for Zipper Club, they are a fast-rising Los Angeles-based band featuring of Mason James (Cerebral Ballzy), Lissy Trullie and Damar Davis. Their debut single "Going The Distance" was released on June 24th on Epic Records, and became the #1 Most Added title at Alternative this summer. The band recently completed work on their debut album with producer James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle).
